Chapter 89: That Righteous Person
"Oh! You poor thing! It must have been so scary!" Mu Qingqing gasped, covering her mouth.
Lin Jiaojiao also felt pity for the child who was even younger than her and was forced to suffer the horrors of the apocalypse.
But... she was also not stupid. This child initially tried to lure them to danger.
"Please... save my Mom. I don't want to see Mom do those things anymore." Zhang Youji begged helplessly. "Please... help free my Mom!" He bowed his head towards them, his shoulders trembling as tears rolled down his face without stopping.

Additionally, not everyone had a righteous personality. Not everyone would be willing to take in a child during times like this especially when they weren't even related.

In the apocalypse, which righteous person would be willing to risk their life for a child that was practically a stranger to them? In a time and place where morals didn't seem to exist, would anyone be willing to take arms and help an unrelated child?
"Hah." Lilian Mo exhaled.
In her previous life, that righteous person was no other than Sister Xi, a woman that she both admired and hated. The Zhang Youji of her past life was truly pitiful. He suffered for more than a year and just when he thought that he had met his savior, he ended up entangling himself with the devil in disguise.

"Little Mo, this is Zhang Youji. He is like a little brother to me so please take good care of him. He is twelve years old this year." Sister Xi introduced, gesturing to the boy beside her.
Lilian Mo had been wary at first because it wasn't everyday that she saw a boy that looked and acted like a puppet. The boy's expression had been even colder than Lu Jingren. He looked as if he would only act if Sister Xi commanded him.
Lilian Mo didn't know that her assumptions were accurate and she had let her guard down since she was only facing a young boy that hadn't even reached fifteen just yet. This was a common mistake for people during the apocalypse.
They often disregard a person's age as a trivial matter and when facing someone younger, that person would automatically be considered harmless in their eyes, they would be someone who could not pose a threat to their existence.
"Ah...Youji, come and shake Little Mo's hand."
Zhang Youji finally raised his head and he extended his hand robotically to Lilian Mo who accepted his handshake without thinking. Unbeknownst to her, her memories had leaked towards him and Zhang Youji who was also holding Sister Xi's other hand had leaked those memories to the tall woman.
Sister Xi grinned. Lilian Mo didn't understand it before but later, she soon regretted ever accepting that 'harmless' handshake when it had led to her utter demise.
"Little Mo is really interesting, very interesting." Sister Xi told her, her grin widening as seconds pass by. It didn't look friendly.
Pretty soon, Sister Xi had full control over her and had threatened to reveal her whereabouts to Lu Jingren as well as use the Chen family's situation against her. She threatened Lilian Mo many times and for a while, Lilian Mo had acted similarly to Zhang Youji.
Like a puppet, who only existed to do their master's bidding.
There were many things she regrets in her previous life and that was one of those. However, those things have already happened and the damage was done. She could only try her best to avoid it in this life.
The past was the past. This time, she would make sure that none of those things would happen to her or anyone for that matter so she expressed her opinion to help Zhang Youji.
"I will help you."
"I'll also help!" Mu Qingqing followed.
Lin Jiaojiao frowned when she saw this but she trusted her savior's judgment so she also decided to voice her opinion. "Then, I will also help." She added shyly.
Just when Mizuki Rei was ready to protest and tell them it was dangerous to engage an unknown monster, the Boss had already spoken and said the following words with finality.
"Good."
The boys wisely kept their mouths shut when they heard this.
