Chapter 2: Chapter 2

The next day...

"Ms. Geof?" Andrei knocked on the oak door. Holding the papers in one hand while the other was on the door. He waited for a reply but no one answered.

He turned the knob on the door, surprisingly unlocked, and pushed it open. Inside, a dimly lit room could be found, filled with stacking books and bubbling liquids in small glass bottles. The windows of the room barely gave proper amounts of light due to the closed curtains.

He sighed as he looked at the scene.

'What a mess...tsk!'

"Ms. Geof?" He asked again hoping to find her presence among the towering books. "Are you there?"

"Oh shit!" A loud feminine voice cursed before an explosion of colors spread out across the room. Slowly as the smoke disappeared, a woman in a white lab coat emerged from the smoke covered in colored powder. Slowly, she lifts up her goggles and starts to untangle her messy hair.

"Why hello there, Astral! Sorry I've been a tad busy. So what can I do for ya?" She said with a wide grin. Andrei handed the papers over to her. She looked at it with curiosity but after a while her entire face turned grim.

"Sorry to bother you, Ms. Geof," He bows down. "But, those papers are said to be urgent."

"D-Don't worry about it..." Her voice trailed off as she scanned through the pages. This is bad. It's too soon!

"Is there something wrong, Ms. Geof?," Andrei asked when he saw the teacher's worried face. Could the words behind the pages be that worry some to cause the cheery Ms. Geof to look concerned?

"It's nothing! Nothing to worry about," She looks back at the boy and hides the papers away in her drawer. She turns her attention to the boy then waves her hands."Now then, thank you for delivering these! Hope to see you again, Astral."

Andrei nods and bids her goodbye before exiting the room. While he was walking down the halls, he couldn't help but think of the contents on the papers. Odd but none of my business.

Back in the laboratory, Janella Geof couldn't stay still. As she read the papers earlier, she couldn't help but feel pity for the children. They're not ready!

She thought back to her students. The smiles on their faces would be long gone soon. Soon, their dreams and hopes would turn into ruins and no one would be able to do anything about it. It's their fate, they'd say. Fate, yes. But a cruel one.

Slowly along the halls, Andrei wondered about, lost in thought of the letter's content.

What did it say?

He asked himself, continuously until he heard the horrendous sound of screaming. He looked up and saw that he had subconsciously lead himself to the entrance of the school arena. The only thing he hates more than more dirt. Fighting.

I need to get out of here, he thought to himself. But the sounds of the crowd jeering and screaming only urged him to watch the show. And truly he did. There he was standing on the top most of the benches along the entrance, watching from above the fight that was ensuing on the center of the 40 meter wide arena.

There on the battlefield were two 2nd year students, one female and one male. The boy, from the prominent family of Jehida and the other, of unknown status.

"You, you!" Kian Jehida screamed as he threw flaming orbs at his opponent one by one. He was mad, no, enraged at the girl standing five meters away from him. How dare she ridicule me?

All Kian could think about was bringing pain into the poor girl's life. He could have anything he wanted with a snap of his finger. Yes this girl, this girl didn't want to be owned.

"You, you disgust me. A filthy rich boy who doesn't know his own limits is no better than a peasant like me." The words rang in his head, bringing his mind into an uproar. He would kill the girl, right here, right now. But there was one problem, all of his attacks couldn't hit her. No matter what he threw at her, she would dodge. Up and down. Left and right.

"Stay still!" he roared but the girl didn't listen. She was merely giggling and smiling at sight of the offended Jehida. She knew he was getting tired, his mana reserves depleting with every fire spell he cast, trying to stop her. Until, he finally ran out of it.

Poor boy. You should've learned better.

She walked up to him with a glowing orb in hand, smiling as if nothing had happened. The boy trembled at the sight of her smile. Her appearance was the same as when they had started their match, but he was spent up, tired with ragged breathing, his clothes in a mess and his hands burnt.

"Stay away!" he managed to speak up, falling back in fear as the girl continued to walk up to him. Her smirk was the last thing he ever saw as a bright light enveloped the whole arena, leaving the crowd shocked and astonished.

The light vanished and there in the midst of a cloud of dust, was a defeated Kian, sprawled on the ground and the triumphant mystery girl walking away, disappearing into the shadows of the arena's gates. Murmurs and whispers drowned the arena with a tense aura as they wondered what had happened in the middle of that bright light.

Andrei walked out of the arena with a sigh. The fight earlier had left so many questions in his mind but one floated among the rest. Who was that girl? In the past months had been in this university, he had never heard of her name or seen her around the campus. It just sparked his curiosity even more. Just who was she?

"Andrei! Andrei!" His brother's voice broke through his thoughts. Turning to the right, he watched as his brother ran towards him, clearly tired and looking frantic. He immediately ran towards him and caught him in his arms before the red head could tumble down.

"Brake? What happened?" He asked, concern in his voice as he looked as at his brother's worried face. As soon as Brake mouthed the words, he took off, running as fast as he could. His heart was pounding hard in his chest, droplets of sweat ran down his face and his breathing was ragged. All he kept thinking was to reach in time. To the place where his mother was. Fear crept up his spine as he thought of his brother's words.

"A demon! An anoteros class demon broke through the eastern forest!"
