It takes me a second to register his presence on the beach. Seeing him outside of his house is surreal and I can't imagine any scenario that would bring him here.
"Hi, Jayne." I thought I was done with crying, but his fatherly tone makes my heart tighten.
"What are you doing here?" My first instinct is to worry. I hope Declan and Lucas are okay.
"Do you mind if I sit with you for a minute?" He motions to the spot beside me and I slide to the side of the log indicating he can share my blanket.
I wasn't expecting company so all I have is what I'm sitting on and he walks over and takes a seat beside me, looking out at the lake and I steal a moment to look at him.
