Chapter 99: Introductions
The fifth fleet watched as Alex got ever closer to the town before slowing down and landing gently outside the front gate. Many of the new people were in awe over how careful Alex was to not cause any problems when he landed. What they didn't know was that he had to train himself how to land like this after causing an eruption of spices the first time he landed outside the town from the wind pressure he brought with him. Alex had been scolded heavily by both the person trading the spices as well as all the "victims" of the spice bomb.
Still it was a fond memory for all those involved after the fact since in all honesty it was a hilarious image. For the next thirty minutes Alex was swarmed by the member of the fifth fleet who had gathered around to bother him. Most of it was them asking him questions in order see if he was actually sapient or not since as they say seeing is believing. Saya however merely observed Alex calmly dealing with the horde of people vying for his attention with a thoughtful expression. She wasn't aware however that her actions were observed and noted by the very same person she was observing.
The reason for this was due to Alex's instincts as a predator that subconsciously had him sizing up his surroundings for oddities. Saya's actions had her sticking out like a sore thumb in his perception since she was the only person not eagerly approaching him. There was in fact another person from the fifth that wasn't present as well that Alex would soon come to know quite well. This of course referred to the head of the fifth fleet as well as the main character of the game.
Due to the nature of the game the actual identity of this person was unknowable to Alex until he personally met them. The fleet commander was speaking with this very person on the other side of the town at the planning table that was used for meetings. The person was a tall man with a lean build and short black hair but what really stood out was his heterochromia that made him have two different eye colors. The man's name was Zain and his right eyes was a deep brown while his left was pale silver creating a huge contrast.
This trait of having silver eyes was usually found in those of the wyverian race who managed to get the progenitors recessive eye color. It was fairly easy to tell from Zain's slightly pointed ears and three fingered hands that he was half wyverian. It was not an unheard of or even a hard thing thing for wyverians and humans to interbreed healthy children , however it was very rare since most wyverians purposefully made sure not to form romantic attachments with humans due to their much shorter lifespan. Still occasionally a pair of the two races would share a deep intimacy resulting in the birth of a halfling.
The traits a halfling showed however were always a coin flip gamble as sometimes they were indistinguishable from other wyverians or humans and sometimes they got the best of both world such as in Zain's case. The most desirable feature for the guild in regards to the hybrids who chose to become hunters was that in the case of the hybrid they shared the lifespans of the other wyverians. This meant a hybrid hunter who was just as talented as a human hunter had much more time to improve themselves thus making them generally better than their human counterparts for longer.
Zain was extremely young for a hybrid at only thirty two years old which compared to his three hundred year minimum lifespan was very small. Still to be appointed by the guild as the head of the fifth fleet it was clear that he was head and shoulders above the rest of the young people who had made the journey over. Unlike in the game however were he had lost all of his equipment from zorah capsizing the ships save what he had on , Zain had a longsword with red scales strapped to his back. Alex's warning had prevented the fifth from losing all the resources they had brought over seas with them and it was only going to become more obvious as time went on how big a difference this made.
