Chapter 2: A Few Months ago

The war was finally over. Humans had finally won against the monsters after years of struggle. Kellogg didn't participate in the celebrations, instead he went back to where his old house was.

It was still rubble. After all these years, it was still the same, he stood there wearing a grey hoodie and jeans. The moonlight made the entire area give off a certain special beauty.

He crouched over to pull something from the rubble. An egg. 'How did this get here?' he thought. It was unusual finding something like an egg in such a desolate place.

"Hello there."

Kellogg got startled and looked around. 'Where's this voice coming form? No one's around here for miles. Maybe this is PTSD.'

"No. You're not going crazy."

"What? Who are you? Where are you hiding?" he got alarmed. 'Who is spying on me?' he thought.

"Look at what you're holding, dummy."

When he looked at the egg in his hands, it started to shake around like something was inside it.

'Scan' he said in his mind.

[Scanning target...]

[Target appears to be releasing an unknown energy]

Notifications popped up in his vision as he looked at the egg.

"Crush the egg."

"What?"

'Why would the egg tell me to crush itself?' His thoughts were filled with confusion.

"Fine then. I guess I'll do it by myself" the voice sounded.

Suddenly cracks appeared on the egg and light brighter than anything blinded him for a moment. When he opened his eyes, the surroundings changed. It looked like a street with houses lined one next to the other, the sun was overhead in the clear blue sky and children were running around laughing. He scouted the area.

'Why does this feel vaguely familiar?'

Some part of him felt very familiar with this place. His body moved on its own through the path and finally stopped in front of a gate. His eyes widened as he looked at the building inside.

"This! This is-"

"Yeah. Yeah. It is what it is." the voice interrupted him. It came from below. A chicken stood there! It was brightly coloured and had a large red crest on its head. It flapped its wings (but it looked clapping) and turned to him.

'A talking chicken? Am I going insane?'

The chicken seemed to read his thoughts, it turned its head a few times and said

"No. You're not going insane. Follow me inside." and flew across the gate.

[Scanning target...]

[Target is Identified as a 'Chicken']

[Self diagnosing...]

[No signs of any mental or physical distress detected]

'It's not a dream. I'm not dreaming. It's too real to be a dream.' he kept telling himself as he opened the gate and entered.

It was his old house.
