Chapter 9: Monster Tide

Really?

I had enough stamina to return, but fighting against a whole horde of mosters.

Okay forget it, even without fatigue I would have a hard times against such numbers.

A monster tide was a bigger version of a monster party, which already had around 50 monsters, but a tide had 100 monsters of different kinds. As this tide was on the 3rd floor it was made of goblins, kobolds and lizardmen.

As it was close to the surface, there would be some stronger adventurers, given enough time.

He just needs to hold out long enough till they come from the upper or lower floors, so I try to hide in a dead end nearby, but as kobolds have a good smell, a party of around 15 comes to me and as they discovered me and charge, others follow their lead.

I stand with my back to the wall and fight as defensively as I can by slashing wide or stabbing a monster and throwing it at another group. But I get the feeling that for every monster on the ground two others appear.

The wounds from claws accumulate on my body, but my armor saves my vital points from being injured.

A true nightmare.

But then I hear another fight from the front. I couldn't discern if they fought from the stairs or corridor, but the flying parts of monsters showed me, I wasn't alone anymore.

So I use my remaining strength to defend and call out so they notice me.

The number of monsters dwindled, as I only killed around 10 or 15 with my defence before, but now I already saw an end through the remaining monsters which only accounted to another 30 or so. That told me the arriving adventurers are definitely higher level and I caught a glimpse of a blonde girl dancing with swords on the other side.

She is a little young, but I recognize her as Aiz Wallenstein, who should be a level 3 adventurer at the moment.

Another minute later the ground was filled with corpses and I am so thankful to not be one of them. Well they turn really fast into ash and drop items, so it would be more accurate to say it was filled with magic stones and a few drop items in between.

"Hey there, are you alright?", the small amazoness next to Aiz asks. I could see she is one of the twins as she is already the size she has at the beginning of the plot.

"Yeah. Thanks, you saved me there. I was already on my way back as I stumbled into them."

"No problem, we also came up from the deeper floors.", she says smiling and Aiz next to her just nods.

"How about I thank you with a lunch at the tavern I live at." I am really thankful and it is always a good idea to have one more friend. Especially if you don't have a familia.

"Sure rookie. I am Tiona by the way. The girl on my left is Aiz."

"Nice to meet you, I'm Alexandros but you can call me Alex. Then lets pick everything up and go up."

" 'Kay."

Half an hour later we arrive at the Hostess of Fertility.

"Wait you invite us to a meal here. I thought you treat us to a meal at your inn."

"And I am exatly that.", I reply to Tiona's confused state.

"Since when does Mama Mia had rooms to rent?"

"I don't know as I only came here a couple of weeks ago. But you know Mia, I see."

"Well our goddess often holds a party here, so you get to know the place.", she explains.

"Well then, as I've said it's my treat for saving me."

"Thanks then."

After going in the few customers glaced at us and as they saw the fastest leveler in History their glances turned to stares, till Mia reprimands them: "Is it the first time you see a female adventurer or is the food so bad you need the destraction?"

They know better and return to their meal or drink in front of them.

"What are you doing together with them, boy.", she asks me as I stood at the counter.

"The two of them saved me from a monster tide in the Dungeon so I'll treat them to a meal here."

"Oh really? Then you should eat a lot ladies.", she tells them while grinning at me.

So we sit down at a table and order some dishes.

"You could hold out long enough, even though you only appeared a few weeks ago. Are you an adventurer of another city?", Tiona tries to find a topic for conversation.

"No, I come from a small village a few days away, but I have my Falna a couple of years and was a hunter, so I could gain some strenght from that."

"I see. And here I thought you are a fast leveler."

A few minutes after talking about Orario or the Dungeon our dishes arrived.

The meal costed me 1000 valis, but I thought it was worth it. I sayed goodbye to the two and went upstairs to 'Upgrade'. It was a unseen improvement, but I guess hunting on a deeper level and surviving a monster tide has that kind of effect.

Alex, Level 1

Basic Abilities:

Strenght: D-517

Endurance: D-579

Dexterity: D-504

Agility: E-447

Magic: I-0

That is some major improvement, but I could understand it to some extend.

The hunting on the 6th floor increased my Agility and the others to a greater extend as the monsters were new, in high numbers and the most difficult I had to handle till now.

And on my way back, I entered a life and death situation with a large group of monsters that mostly increased my Endurance, but also the other attributes. I believe excelia is largely increased in such conditions what brought me to this point.

But I am still to weak. With my earnings, I should earn enough to work less in the tavern and hunt longer in the Dungeon.
