Chapter 17: Spoiled Princess

"It was just a matter of time before we started to kill each other for it."

Those words from Jordan kept the rest of the class in silence. There was something about the coldness in his voice when he spoke that carried an aura of fear. Jordan and the guy behind kept their eyes locked in a stare.

"If you're so knowledgeable about Human behavior why did you come? We both know this program is going to do more than just train us into powerful Mages." The boy parted some strands of his obsidian black hair in front of his face. There was a name tag on his uniform, like all the others and Jordan focused his eyes on it.

"That's enough, boys," Professor Dave cut in giving both of them a stern look. "Jordan, sit properly! No more interruptions from the both of you till the end of the class." He released a breath before returning to the front of the class.

The class carried on without Jordan or the strange kid saying anything. All along, Jordan didn't fail to notice the side glances he was getting from Aurora. Although, she never said a word to him.

Bringggg!!! Brrinnng!!

The sound of the bell ringing brought joy to all the students. At first, the Professor's stories about the past were thrilling, but after a while, they got a lot more scary. He made them know that out of greed for the Power of Mana, Humans did a lot of terrible things to each other. The war is just the one with the highest pile of corpses.

"That'll be all for today's class. See you all on Monday. I wish you all a wonderful weekend," Professor Dave said, putting his board-marker into his shoulder bag.

The kids put their books through a 30cm by 5cm horizontal hole in their desk and they were teleported to their dorms. Although a few preferred to carry them around in school bags.

"Shit!" Jordan cursed, looking at the watch on his wrist.

It was 1:43 PM. He had less than twenty minutes to get to the Science Lab. Jordan stood and looked around for the kid who sat behind him but he couldn't find him. Almost like he had disappeared into thin air. He wanted to confront Aurora about her insane staring problem but he didn't have the time for that.

Hurriedly, he rushed to the boys' bathroom to relieve himself. When he came out, he had a weird feeling, that he was being followed but brushed it off as nothing when he turned and confirmed he was alone. The feeling kept getting stronger so instead of heading to the science lab, he diverted into the indoor swimming pools.

Jordan looked at the door and stood beside it in wait for who was following him. The room was empty and besides the turning sounds made by the air vents, it was completely silent. Immediately the door opened and the person walked in, Jordan rushed at the person and pinned the person to the wall by the door from behind.

"You," he sighed, looking into the ice-blue eyes of a girl. "Why are you following me?" he asked, still not willing to let go of her.

"Let go of me, you creep!" Aurora yelled, struggling to break free.

Her eyes began to glow with an otherworldly luster. Jordan instantly let go of her the moment he felt her arm turning cold.

"I don't like repeating myself," Jordan said, standing a few paces from her.

A look of annoyance was on Aurora's face. The glow in her eyes was gone. She repeatedly patted her uniform which now had stains of dust on it from the wall.

"Why would you do that to a girl?"

"You shouldn't have stalked me," Jordan replied, defensively. "What do you want? I have somewhere to be," he added taking a look at his watch.

"Well, I was told you were the one who helped me on the night I fainted in the fields. Is it true?" Aurora asked, turning her face from Jordan. It reminded Jordan of the proud rich, up-town bastards who never cared to look at him because he was from a low background.

"Yes."

"Thank you," Aurora murmured in a low whisper, but Jordan heard. She had asked about Jordan from the record-keepers so she wasn't exactly okay with thanking a lowlife for saving her life.

"Just get the fuck out of my way," Jordan hissed, walking to the door.

"Hold on, I'm not d-"

Jordan pushed her roughly to the side and opened the door. Aurora was confused. She expected Jordan to be a lot more respectful. Didn't he know who her father was?

"Where are you going? Our next class is in ten minutes. I need to ask you some questions?" she called out, as Jordan walked away.

"I don't bloody care."

Aurora ran up to Jordan and stood in front of him.

"I'm the General's daughter. How dare you ignore me?"

Jordan sized her up. He could tell that she was younger than him. He had only a few minutes left and he didn't plan on wasting them on a meaningless conversation with some spoilt princess who thinks the world revolves around her.

"Let me warn you! This should be the very last time that you stand in my way. I'm going to let this pass, but if it happens again, I'll make you regret it!" Jordan said staring daggers at Aurora with a voice thick with intimidation before walking past her. "Don't even think of following me," he added without turning back.

Aurora stood there, not knowing what to do. For a moment there, she felt a chill run down her spine. No one had ever threatened her before.

'Just who does he think he is?' she thought to herself.

Jordan on the other hand hurried to the Lab where the scientists were expecting him. He couldn't get his mind off Aurora. She reminded him of a lot of people who had looked down on him back in his town. She was too proud to even look him in the eye and thank him properly. For a split second, he regretted saving her.

With confidence, Jordan walked into the lab. He was mentally prepared for anything the scientists were going to throw at him.

"You're right on time. Good. Take off your clothes and get in the pod," Scientist Ella instructed, pointing to a big, human-sized pod-like machine.

"What did you just say??"
