Chapter 14: Swordsmanship

In the car, I wait for Julian to come out of the guild. Julian gets in the car, ready to leave. Driving back home, I see a starving rugged old man holding a sign asking for food on the side of the street.

"Julian, stop for a second." I say, she pulls over to the side of the road and explains we don't have any money or food. I get out, walk up to the man, ripping my arm off, and offer it to him.

"Here you go now. You won't have to starve anymore." I say as he screams and runs away. Julian pulls me back into the car.

"What the hell was that about? Now my car's gonna be looking like a bloody crime scene." Julian exaggerates.

"That man was starving with my regeneration. I could fix world hunger, can't I?" Julian looks at me, dumbfounded.

"Are these the thoughts you have with the angel inside your head? Ugh, just please don't do something stupid like that again, or you'll get arrested for disturbance." Julian says while we ride home.

By the time we got home, my arm had fully healed. We head in for lunch, Wiggly now edging closer to me while still staying a safe distance.

"Nux, I was wondering if you had any ambitions outside of being a hunter? Since you got here, you haven't had any complaints about what's been going on," Julian asks. I take a sip of coffee.

"I'd like to live peacefully and find out more about my birth. However, with these portals, a peaceful life will be near impossible." I explain.

"That's true. You may find out about your birth while in a dungeon, so that's good." She explains, finishing her meal.

After finishing lunch, I head into the living room and sit on the cold wooden floor and try to practice gathering mana again.

Collecting it through the atmosphere, storing the magic and releasing it, I slowly grow my mana pool, then I head to bed.

"Hey Nux, I'm going out. Let's stop by the guild quickly to pick up some armor and weapons for the team Glórn had made." She says we take our leave to the guild.

Entering the guild heading to the new room, added in the basement, a forging station with weapons and armor litter the room. We see Glórn wearing goggles hammering molten metal.

"Julian, Nux, you're here. I'm assuming you came for the new equipment I made?" He asks Julian putting the hammer down.

"Yes, I heard you had new daggers for me, a sword for Nux and a staff for Piro?" Julian asks

"Indeed, this staff should increase Piro's mana pool. I made these daggers and sword out of Quilten steel, the strongest metal I brought from my town. I wish you good luck in teaching Nux the sword. I'll have armor ready by the time Frank's out of the hospital." Glórn says while handing us the weapons. We then leave.

"So you're training me how to use a sword?" I ask Julian.

"Yes, when you get the necklace, remember that you cannot use demonic powers, and you need to learn how to fight for our next dungeon hunting trip. I barely have enough money right now since we can't enter dungeons." She explains.

"I was curious. Why don't we just bring those weapons you attacked me with into the dungeons? Those guns, or whatcha call it?" I ask, puzzled.

"We don't know why, but all firearms disappear when inside dungeons. That's why we hunters gifted with emence fighting knowledge enter and not the military unless they have awakened hunters. I one day learned how to fight using these daggers to such a degree. I became a hunter. Either that or people who learn magic can enter." She explains.

We stop by a restaurant to eat, having the most delicious meal I've ever tried called sushi.

Once we got home, Wiggly was back in his human sized form. Julian and I look at him, wondering why he's like that, as he hasn't taken that form in a long time.

"Um Nux, I h-heard about you letting the angel take partial control. B-but if you can, please teach me magic so I can at least defend myself if something like that were to happen again." He nervously asked, stuttering all over the place.

"Of course I'd teach you. It's the least I can do. Julian well have to hold off on that swordmanship training temporarily." (Hopefully, this can make up for what happened between me and Wiggly)

I go through the basics with Wiggly teaching him the same things Piro had taught me. Before I knew it, he could gather mana on his own.

"That settles that I'm beat. I'm going to hit the hay after tomorrow morning jog. Are we going to train?" I ask Julian. She nods as I head to the bed.

In the morning after Julian and I ate and jogged. We head into the nearby training building the guild had bought previously, a large room with stands on the side for people to sit and watch a selection of weapon and armor racks to choose from near the entrance.

I stand in front of Julian, sword drawn, yet my arms are shaking. (No..no..no) Serephena says.

"What's wrong Nux, don't tell me you fear me," Julian says while giggling.

"It's not that it seems Serphena isn't the fighting type, so it may be difficult to get used to this. The demon was way more eager." I explain, and so Julian says she'll take it easy on me. All I had to do was learn how to block, and so we begin.

The sword swinging towards my side; I block it with all my strength. She sweeps under my leg, making me fall. Pointing her dagger at my neck.

"Hey that isn't fair!" I yell towards her.

She reminds me that in a fight, there is no such thing. It's kill or be killed. We have to fight Oliver once I'm ready and he wouldn't care less if he won fair or not.

We fight continuously for hours on end, my clothes drenched in sweat until it is time to head home. In the car, I look down, my hands still shaking.

"Don't worry, you'll get better. I'll have you up and ready when it's time to hit up the dungeons again. Be prepared for tomorrow. It'll be a lot harder." Julian says with a smile on her face. Whilst I look at her dreadfully.
