Chapter 34: Chapter 15: Date I [2]
Rei who was starting to immerse in his thoughts then shook his head to distract himself out of it.
Tohka, who was still staring right back at Rei made him feel a slight guilt from within. But nothing more than that.
"...I'll explain the reason about it to you along the way on our 'Date'. And besides...." Rei paused as he scanned Tohka from top to bottom, "Also, I think we need to do something about your attire"
At the first part of his sentence, Tohka visibly relaxed since Rei promised to explain what happened earlier as for why he did that but as soon as he said the second part, Tohka's expression began to change.
"...What exactly is wrong with my raiment? This is my armor and my territory. I won't tolerate such insults even if it's you, Rei," Tohka said with an aura of seriousness emanating from her.
This is understandable. After all, this raiment or clothing of hers has been with her all this time, or maybe, from the moment she was 'born'.
Separating from it is akin of shedding your own skin in some sense.
Also, Tohka may have misunderstood if she was thinking that Rei was thinking bad about her attire—or raiment. That's really not it and somehow, only Rei was the one thinking that it was just some misunderstanding meanwhile Tohka thinks that he is insulting it.
Well, Rei who knows what she was implying doesn't plan to complicate it any further and just honestly answered her question in a calm manner.
"You stand out too much like that and it would attract unnecessary attention. Even the AST will find out where we are if they spot you dressed would your raiment. That would ruin our 'Date', wouldn't it?"
"Nu..."
Seemingly having realized that it would indeed be troublesome, Tohka made an unpleasant frown. After pondering for a while, she then looked back at Rei and then spoke.
"What should I do, then?"
"Well, you have to change your clothes," Rei said as he slowly took out his phone from the
While he racked his brain for ideas, Tohka impatiently spoke up.
"What kind of clothes would be good? Just tell me that," Tohka immediately inquired.
"Hm... Well, you should take a look at this," Rei said as he showed his phone on Tohka.
What was displayed on the screen was a set of various dresses all over.
"Tohka, look here. You could pick out the clothes you should wear, or at least, the clothes that piqued your fancy"
"Nu?"
Tohka looked in the direction that Rei was pointing in, and placed her hand on her chin.
There were a variety of dresses displayed on the phone and Tohka visibly widened her eyes in surprise. This indeed interested her.
"Hmm, I see. So this types of clothes would be fine, huh?" said Tohka.
She tightly raised her index finger and then pointed out a dress. It was two to be exact.
The two were most likely similar in fashion. It was a 'set' type of clothes which involves all the things to wear.
Both have a jacket on top with shoulder less tops (blouse), and with a skirt on the bottom added with knee-high boots.
They were practically identical except for the theme coloring and designs for which the former's jacket was coloured light purple while the other was dark purple. The blouses follows the same regards whereas the former was a white-coloured frilled neck blouse while the latter was a black-coloured frilled neck blouse. The skirt of the former was light blue in theme while the latter is coloured violet. Both however had knee-high boots with high-thigh socks.

These two choices of hers instantly gained Rei's approval in his mind. Certainly, Tohka has some good fashion sense or something, but that is to be discussed on another time.
As she was pondering what to choose between the two, Tohka sought help from Rei, "Rei, between these two, what do you think would be good?"
"Well, it's you who should decide what you should wear...."
Suddenly, Rei's voice died out as he realized that what he did was a mistake. He should've just complimented it himself, after all he should at least have that enough consideration towards Tohka.
"...No. Don't mind what I said first," Rei paused as he thought for a second before choosing, "I think this one would be more suitable to the current you"
Rei said as he pointed at the former. And for the reason for that? Apparently, it's out of a whim.
But don't get him wrong though. Both of her choices were certainly perfect if she wore it so even Rei would ponder for a while what's the most suitable for her.
So to not waste time any further, he just chose based on what he had thought to be the best for her to wear for this date.
"So it's this... Hm. It is pretty good indeed"
With that, she snapped her fingers.
Just as she did that, the dress that she wore started to dissolve into the air... or so it seemed, but then as if it was being replaced, particles of light gathered around her, coiling around her body and forming a new silhouette.
After a few seconds, Tohka stood there, wearing the clothes that Rei chose. Additionally, her long raven hair was tied in a ponytail style.
Tohka who finished changing her clothes then asked with a smile, "So Rei, how is it?"
"Perfect..." Rei replied his thoughts aloud as his mouth remained slightly opened right after. Tohka right now looks very stunning and it was a fact.
Seeing his reaction, Tohka stroked her hair before replying.
"...is that so? Nn, then its good!" Tohka said with a slight tint of red in her face, "So Rei, are you going to show me now what this 'Date' is?"
Regaining his composure, Rei answered, "..Okay, but we need to get out of this place first. This is not suitable based on our attires and a date couldn't be 'done' here"
Who would want a Date to be in a dark alleyways anyway? Well, except if your gonna do some private business or something in there then... you get it, it is what it is.
After Rei said that, Tohka gave a quick nod. Her apparent enthusiasm was all over the place.
But before they started to walk away, Tohka couldn't help but inquire, "Is that attire of yours suitable for a Date, Rei?"
"Hm? Oh, yeah..." Rei replied as he noticed what Tohka was pointing at.
Certainly, going on a date with a school uniform while your partner was dressed glamorously would definitely earn you a bucket of laughs from some people.
And o be honest, this thought really didn't pass on Rei's mind until Tohka reminded.
'Quite a blunder that I should mind from now on, huh' Rei pondered in his mind.
Snapping his fingers, the same happened with Tohka earlier.
His clothes—or his Raizen Highschool Uniform disappeared into remnants of light and was replaced with a more casual attire.
He now wore a black jacket on top of a violet T-shirt. He also wore jet-black trousers paired with black shoes.
Overall, this was merely based on what he used to wear back then in his past life. Another fact is that this attire of his may or may not be considered 'great' depending on each individual's taste in fashion.
As soon as the clothes were completely replaced. He then glanced at Tohka and said, "Well, how is it?"
"Mm! You look good Rei!" Tohka happily replied.
"Thanks. So, let's get going shall we?"
As they walked through the dark alleyways, the sounds and clamors of people began to get more audible and clearer.
Noticing this, Tohka couldn't help but make a slight frown.
As they continued, they finally arrived at a straight pathway, a pathway that connects itself to the main streets of Tenguu City.
It was then, Tohka who was walking besides Rei halted her steps and called out, "Rei... why are humans...!"
Right ahead of them, people were visibly on the main street. As soon as the space quake alarm ceased to sound a few minutes ago, people apparently began to get out from the shelters and continue the things that they had left off.
And so, it resulted to this where Tohka eyed them with caution. Either it was from shock due to the numbers of the humans right ahead of her or wariness of them trying to 'kill' her and him, Rei decided to pacify her down first.
"Calm down Tohka"
"But Rei!"
"I'll explain you a few things first"
"But..."
"Tohka"
Tohka who heard Rei saying that slightly louder than usual then relented and then responded, "...got it. Then explain what this is about"
Moving his hand, he lifted one of his fingers.
"Not all humans are your enemies. Except for the AST and some 'bad' people, humans in entirety wouldn't wish to harm you," Rei said before adding a mocking thought, 'That's if they don't know that your kind, no... our kind were the ones responsible over this mass destruction all over the place'
"Not every single one of them...?" Tohka inquired as she tilted her head in confusion.
After all, all this time, the beings that always came after her life were humans. That's how it's always been, and that's how it will always be.
Putting that into mind, Rei proceeded to tackle this matter with more consideration.
"Yes yes. And second," Rei didn't bother explaining further, lifting another finger and said, "Listen, Tohka. You can't attack people all the time. You just can't"
While he said that, Rei reminisced that the encounters he had with her apparently started with her giving off a attack or something. Thinking so, he couldn't help but smile wryly wondering how the protagonist (AKA Shidou) of this world survived for a very long time.
"Why not?"
"Don't you feel annoyed when the AST attacks you? Listen to me, you shouldn't do things that people won't like," Said Rei as he added another thought in his mind, 'It will also be a hassle to deal with the aftermath'
"...Hmph"
Tohka's lips tightened in dissatisfaction when Rei said that.
Rather than disagreeing with what he said, it seemed like she was unhappy with how he spoke to her like he was talking to a child.
"...I understand. I'll keep that in mind," Tohka said in consent, with that expression.
"Third and lastly," raising another one of his fingers, he then said with a bright smile, "A date is something that you should enjoy. That's why relax yourself, and don't mind your enemies since they won't come after you if you don't do anything 'unnecessary'"
Upon hearing Rei's words, Tohka immediately inquired, "Is that what a date is? To enjoy myself?"
"Who knows?" Rei casually shrugged as he acted he doesn't know nothing about it which didn't convince Tohka in the slightest.
Rei then added, "But it depends on your perspective and experience on it. After all, some people treat 'dates' to be enjoying while others don't"
"Nn..."
Next, she raised her face slightly as if remembering something, and said, "Okay. I'll abide what you said for now. As long as they don't meant harm to us, I won't do anything against them, is that enough, Rei?"
"Good enough"
"Nn! So now what are we waiting for. Let's have this Date now!" Tohka exclaimed with excitement.
Her very appearance at the moment could be one of the embodiment of eagerness or so.
Looking at the sky, Rei's eyes had glimmered albeit shortly. The sun had already disappeared from the sky as it was slowly being replaced by the rising moon and the night horizon.
Thinking so, Rei offered his hand towards Tohka who was beside him. Tohka on the other hand had a slightly puzzled expression wondering what is Rei trying to do.
But noticing the gentle expression on his face, Tohka's puzzlement began to cease as she subconsciously offered her hand and held it on Rei's.
And it was then, he spoke.
"Well then, the sun had set and the night is still young. Within this short time, let me accompany you, and show you what a Date really is"
