Chapter 25: Chapter 24

---3rd Person---

The stab didn't even leave a scratch at the surface of the metal and the man recoiled.

The moment the blade struck his armor, Voranis was snapped out of his daze. The feelings he was holding back burst like a broken dam. Years of mental discipline went out the window and overwhelming psionic energy exploded in the form of lightning.

Bolts violently struck randomly around Voranis like they had a mind of their own. The man screamed in pain as he was struck by them. The strange thing was that the man should have died but it was as if the lightning wanted to inflict as much pain as possible without letting him die.

Voranis didn't mind it. He couldn't even hear the screams, he simply raised and arm and grabbed the man's face. Without doing anything fancy, he just threw the guy through the wall.

Chunks that used to be part of the building were shot outside along with the murderer.

Turns out that wall was quite weak. Besides a shattered arm from the throw and burns all over his body from unfocused lightning, he was still alive.

The man was unmoving but Voranis didn't care. If the guy was breathing then nothing's changed.

Step after step Voranis approached but someone intercepted him midway. It was Kara- No! Supergirl who stood in his way.

He was startled a bit by her appearance. The dinner took a backseat to everything else in his mind.

Voranis: Get out of my way!

Lightning intensified once more as Voranis feelings we in even more disarray.

Kara: I can't let you do this!

Voranis: WHY? Why can't you? Haven't you seen what this animal has done?

His voice cracked here and there and he pointed towards the house. Supergirl turned there and a second later she gasped and put a hand in front of her mouth.

Voranis: Do you understand NOW?

Kara: We are NOT above the law! and we are NOT executioners!

Without saying anything further Voranis charged. Supergirl prepare to receive the attack. Reaching her, he used one foot as a pivot point and with one swift turn, he passed by her, dashing towards the unconscious murderer.

A steely grip around his arm proved that Voranis had underestimated Supergirl's speed. With a pull, she sent Voranis flying back, though he regained his balance and landed on his feet.

Voranis: Why won't you move aside?

He asked but received no answer. She just stood there. He tried to get to him again and again but he couldn't get past Supergirl.

If he couldn't get around her, he had to get through her. Even all of his rage and sorrow couldn't make him hurt her.

Voranis: Please Kara!

He removed his armor. A face filled with anger and regret was revealed as tears constantly fell from his heterochromatic eyes.

Kara's eyes widened as she definitely didn't expect this development. She unconsciously took a step back and looked at the wrecked building again but then she was filled with even more determination than before.

Kara: Now I have even more reasons to not let you do this.

She announced resolutely.

Voranis: Why are you protecting that trash?

Kara: I'm not! I'm protecting you! Killing him won't bring them back. It will only burden YOU! If you kill him, next time it will be easier and the next even more so. Do you want to go down that path just because of trash like him?

She could understand his feelings and that was one of the reasons she couldn't let him do something irrational. The loss of family struck heavily.

She played her final card and pointed towards the house.

Kara: Is that what they would have wanted you to do?

That got him to pause.

Voranis: What do you expect me to do? Let him go?

His erratically moving hands expressed his rage.

Kara: No, he will be tried and then put to prison by the law. We don't win by becoming like them, we win by being better.

Voranis suddenly screamed, summoned a lightning storm and bolts struck the area that the murderer was.

Kara didn't expect it and was late to act. Just as she was about to move, the storm disappeared. When the dust settled it revealed that the man was unharmed. By that storm at least.

The lightning represented Voranis' conflicted feelings. The power was strong but it didn't hit the man. Kara released a breath of air that she didn't even know she was holding.

Voranis: People like him don't deserve to have your protection.

He wanted to say more but didn't want to burden Kara even more. A distant psionic signature was slowly coming closer so he didn't have much time.

Voranis approached Kara with slow and steady steps. He raised a hand and gently touched her face.

Seeing that she didn't move away from his hand, he leaned closer and gave her a kiss. Using his powers, he transmitted through the kiss some of his feelings he had while he was with Kara. Joy, shyness, anxiousness, love and finally pain and sadness.

Without saying a word, he stepped back, locked eyes with her and then turned invisible.

At that moment, Kara felt her heart squeeze inside her chest but she didn't know why yet.

Later that night, the news reported that the escaped convict from Arkham Victor Zazz was apprehended in Metropolis. He had shattered bones and multiple burns throughout his body.
