Chapter 33: Chapter 32

"Did you do it?" Bankole asked as we lined up with the rest like we were waiting for some bank attendant or were at an election poll.

"Of course I didn't," I replied, still holding on firmly to Shade's hand. She had calmed a bit but I could still see that she was restless.

He didn't say much after but I wasn't listening either. I had been mainly focused on the crew discussing something sotto voce and I hadn't wanted to leave Shade hanging but it was necessary to know what new updates they had. If she allowed herself to keep looking uncomfortable, I was sure she knew that those kinds of demeanours attracted seeking eyes faster than the actual scene.

I approached a dispenser by the wall casually, looking like some guy who just had a need to quench his thirst but no, a few feet away they stood oblivious to the newly welcomed prying ears while I heard everything in full detail.

"The rooftop had marked blood at its left edge."
