Chapter 5: Sing for us

"Evangeline! For god's sake! Slow down a bit!" James shouted at the top of his lungs from inside the car, and Evangeline looked at him with a wide smile.

"This is fun, Mr. James. Come ride with me!" Evangeline shouted at the top of her lungs, her hair flailing in the air as she accelerated the bike.

Vroom! Vroom!

Evangeline overtook Mr. James's car, and he sat in his seat, fidgeting with his ring.

"She is still wild after all these years," His secretary commented, and James squared his jaws.

"She is not just wild. She is troublesome. Damn it! Drive faster!" James roared, and the driver looked at him with thinned lips.

"Sir, we are already riding at a speed of 110km/hr," the driver commented, and James clenched his hand before supporting his face on his fist as he leaned on the window and tried to look at how far she had gone.

"Huh, how much I missed you, my love," Evangeline leaned forward and accelerated the bike even more.

The other cars and bikes on the road heard the roaring sound of her bike and sided immediately to give her way because of the speed she was riding at. Luckily, her bike was yet to get a number plate, and thus, it was nearly impossible to sue her for riding over the speed limit until a police officer thinks he wants to catch her.

But the way she is going, she won't need to run away from anyone. This was a highway despite the crowd.

"Off I go to my favorite club!" Evangeline looked at James's car at some distance and accelerated the bike even more.

After ten minutes, she parked her bike in the farthest and darkest corner of the parking lot before turning on the anti-theft system that James had imported from Sweden just for her bike.

"Your ID, miss," the bouncer said as soon as she reached the door, and Evangeline raised her brows.

She was about to pull out her ID and show it to the bouncer, not wanting to gather any attention from people here when the manager of the club walked out, taking over the call.

Evangeline pulled her hat a bit down to hide her face from him and sighed in relief when he stepped ahead.

However, luck wasn't on her side today, and the manager, who was busy cursing the other party, paused.

"You better arrange that singer today or I am going to kill you with my bare hands," The manager ended the call and looked at the girl, who looked like she was trying to hide her face.

Who was this girl? What kind of weird dressing sense was this? People usually come to clubs at party wear dresses, and look at her, dressed in a loose top and Khaki pants with a rugged jacket

What was she trying to pull off here? The manager took a step towards her when his gaze landed on her neck which had a small mole right below her ear.

This mole. The manager's hand trembled a bit and he clenched it around his phone. He looked and tried to take in her appearance, wanting to see if what he was thinking was right or not.

No. This can't be true. There are so many girls with a mole right below their ears. She won't come here. She left for good and - but this girl was giving the same vibes as the girl he once knew as the troublemaker of the club.

"Evangeline," He whispered, and Evangeline, who clearly heard him, rushed inside the club as soon as the bouncer nodded at her.

The manager's eyes widened and he stood rooted on his spot for a second before rushing outside.

"Hey, Evangeline. Wait up. It's you, isn't it?" The manager rushed inside the club, and the bouncer looked at his subordinate for answers, who shrugged, unsure of what was going on.

What the hell was this all about?

Evangeline bit her lower lip and was about to rush inside a cubicle to hide when she bumped into someone.

"I am sorry. I wasn't looking-"

"Did you really think you would run away from me in my club?" The manager held her hand, and Evangeline's eyes widened.

"How dare you show your face here!" The manager started pulling her.

At the same time in the same Continental club, Alexander Laurentius sat with a cold and hooded expression on his face as he leaned back in his seat.

In front of him, his elder brother, Benjamin, and his younger brother, Justin, were sitting with a wary expression.

Though Benjamin was 5 years older than Alexander, he still feared his brother because of the kind of authority and dominance he oozed, not to mention how cruel his ways were.

The first time he made such a mistake in the contracts, Alexander had made him work in the African branch because according to him, he needed to learn the business again from scratch.

Even their father and grandfather side with Alexander because he was the one who saved their multinational branch in Asia from going bankrupt. At that time, he was only nineteen years old.

Since then, their grandfather and father entrusted the entire business to Alexander.

"How are you going to explain yourself, brother?" Alexander's voice was neutral, but Benjamin knew to choose his words wisely.

"This doesn't relate to me. I am out of here. People go to clubs to enjoy themselves, not to ease out their family and business troubles," Justin said, and Benjamin, who was sure Alexander won't do anything to him in front of their younger brother, gritted his teeth.

"Fine. You go ahead and enjoy the anniversary of the club," Benjamin sighed when his gaze met Alexander.

"If you don't want to see me here, it's okay. I'll take my leave," Evangeline pursed her lips, and the manager held her hand even tighter.

"You have got it be kidding me. First, you came here unannounced and didn't even tell me you returned, then you ran away from me as if I was some ghost, and now you are using these acting skills on me to guilt-strike me. Do you even have any idea how much we missed you?" The manager asked, and Evangeline signed.

"I returned today. You can see my flight details. And why do you think I came here the first thing I landed in the country? It's because I missed you guys too. However, I won't lie. I didn't want to meet you. For some reason, I felt meeting you today will be problematic to me," Evangeline narrowed her eyes, and the manager held her hand with hope.

"I wasn't thinking of doing this, but now that you have said such harsh words and wounded my pride, you must sing a song for us. Please. I am in deep trouble, Eva. We had arranged for the singer, I swear but they cancelled at the last moment. It's our anniversary, you know that. Please help me," The manager pouted his lips and made a cute innocent face, making Evangeline scrunch her brows.

"Has anyone told you that you look like a pedophile when you make that face?" she mused as they walked towards the bar and the bartender chuckled at her choice of words.

"How are you, Jake?" Evangeline winked at the bartender and he chuckled even more.

"Pe- pedo -what?" The manager raised his brows, shocked that Evangeline complimented him, unaware of the meaning of the word.

"Child molester," Evangeline turned her attention to the manager and whispered into his ears, and his eyes widened.

"Eva!" He snarled at her, and she blinked her eyes.

"Do you want me to sing?"

"Please sing, Eva. You are sent by God to help me today," The manager's attitude turned again, and Evangeline sighed before looking at the stage where some girls were just saying their hips, looking bored as hell.

"You will owe me a big one after this. And if Mr. James comes here and asks me anything, just say you are exploiting my talent," Evangeline sighed and walked to the stage.

The people who have been working in this club for 8 years and knew who Evangeline was, and how much this girl liked coming to this club before she moved out, looked at the girl in surprise.

"Evangeline is back?"

"Oh my god, she is back,"

"Does that mean we will get to hear her songs?"

"I guess so, or why would she go to the stage?"

"Has anyone called Sam, yet?"

"Sam? Yes! He would be thrilled to know she was finally back. He hasn't worked in the front lines ever since Eva left. He must be working in the storage and handling accounts,"

The people started talking, and Evangeline stood on the stage.

She sighed and took a deep breath. Here we go.
