Chapter 146: Training Zheng

The winter was almost over and Yun was standing on the training field holding his spear with one hand while overlooking Zheng's training when Zheng stops and begins to catch his breath.

"Again!" shouts Yun in a commanding tone to Zheng which didn't make Mulan nor Fang train under Yun when Wei Yan appears with Kang seeing Yun training Zheng.

"You could call yourself lucky that your father never trained you. I could barely train the next day but he just needed to plant his hand on my shoulders and told me that the enemy wouldn't wait for me to be in top form before using Qi to take my soreness away so I could suffer through his training again," says Wei Yan remembering Yun's training since he is or better said was Yun's disciple before.

"I was quite happy that neither of you had to go through the same hell I went through but it seems that changed since he returned from his journey. I really feel the pain that Zheng is going through and it is why I am not making Kang to go through it as well," says Wei Yan seeing Zheng's training which looked even harder than the one he went through.

Fang heard Wei Yan and wanted to approach Yun to help Zheng when Hua, Lu Bu, and Wei Yan stopped him immediately with Hua saying, "Are you crazy?!"

"What are you doing?" asks Fang confused about why they stopped him.

"He might be your father but at the moment he is Zheng's teacher. If you go against him now he will reprimand you with his spear to make an example out of you," says Wei Yan warning Fang to not approach Yun at the moment.

"What about Mulan?" asks Fang curious seeing his sister approach Yun before Huang Zhong and Taishi Ci grabbed each am arm and pulled her away knowing what Yun would do to her and them if she disturbed Zheng's training.

"She has her teachers to keep her safe," says Lu Bu seeing it.

"Still Zheng won't be able to continue his training if Father continues to put him through this hell," says Fang feeling sorry for Zheng seeing his younger brother barely standing before their father who has a stern complexion on his face.

Zheng repeated the spear moves that Yun taught him on the first day of his training while Yun watched him when he sighs and says a bit disappointed, "I think we will have to start from the beginning again."

Zheng was shocked that he almost let go of his spear when he asks, "Why?"

"Let me show you something that is the most important thing when training," says Yun as he walks toward the edge of the training field and he takes a chunk of wood and places it before Zheng before saying, "Attack the chunk of wood with the rotation I taught you three times."

Zheng began to use the three basics of spearmanship which are to pierce, slice, and use the blunt head of his spear to disrupt the enemy. He repeated the same rotation three times leaving different marks on the chunk of wood.

"I taught you the three basics of spearmanship. Now take a look at how I strike the lock of wood," says Yun as he turned it around before using the same three moves against it three times.

Yun stopped and turned the lock of wood around only to show the result there was only one spot in which he pierced, one slice mark, and one point in which the lock of wood was bent in because of the blunt side of the spear hitting it.

"Tell me, what is the difference between us?" asks Yun making this a lecture trying to teach Zheng an important lesson.

"You hit the same spot over and over again while I went all over the lock?" asks Zheng when Yun gave him a stare.

"Are you asking me or answering me?" asks Yun wanting to hear some determination from Zheng.

"I mean that I didn't practice my technique long enough to be precise to strike the same place over and over again just like you, teacher," says Zheng with a determined tone in his voice which made a smile appear on Yun's face.

"This means that you will be striking a lock of wood from now on with those three basics until you can replicate it but not with three repetitions but a hundred. Do you understand me," says Yun in a commanding tone while holding his spear behind him.

"Yes, teacher," says Zheng determined to complete this training so he could learn more from his father.

"Good," says Yun happy to hear Zheng's determination to clear the challenge he laid out to him.

"I wish you luck not even your uncles were able to accomplish what you are trying to do," says Yun seriously not wanting to hide the difficulty behind this exercise since Zheng would need a lot of time for him to be able to accomplish said feat.

"Now now, I got to the fiftieth repetition before I made a mistake," says Wei Yan trying to defend his achievement.

"*chuckle* I got to around eightieths repetitions before I lost focus and made a mistake with my slice. But right now I would be able to do it without a problem," says Hua with confidence looking at Yun since the other person who could do this wasn't around any longer.

"Your grandfather was the man that gave us this challenge to help us increase our precision and focus. You need to be able to enter a trance to complete this assignment," says Yun to Zheng in a commanding tone.

"What I want from you is a demand that you need to fulfill the requirements to learn my style of fighting which is reckless but needs complete focus and dedication. It is something that I will drill into you for the first two years by using only the basics," says Yun seriously as he pierces the ground with his spear before folding his arms across his chest.

"My Lord," says a servant nervous while rushing towards them.

"What happened?" asks Yun a bit preoccupied since the servant sounded nervous.

"The young miss is trying to ride Thunder," says the servant which made those who heard that become serious except for Yun and Hua.

"And?" asks Yun seriously as he wasn't worried about Rin trying to ride on Thunder.

"My Lord, we all know that your horse turns crazy when it comes to other people touching it," says the servant scared that something might happen to Rin.

"She will be fine," says Yun with confidence in his tone knowing full well that Rin was fine when she came to the training field riding Thunder while Shadow was helping her keep her balance on Thunder's back which made many mouths open wide in shock from seeing that.

"Dad look!" shouts Rin trying to get Yun's attention since he was quite busy with his work or training Zheng lately neglecting her a bit.

"Rin," says Yun in a commanding tone not leaving the character of Zheng's teacher at the moment until he saw Rin's puppy eyes making him soften up.

He walks toward Thunder and grabbed the girl from the horse and hugged her before placing her on his shoulders while saying, "Did you feel lonely in that big manor?"

"Not really, Shadow and the tigers were making me company but I wanted to see you, Dad, I haven't seen you in a while," says Rin a bit sad that Yun didn't play with her as he usually would while they were traveling.

"Maybe we should change your title from little princess to Tiger Queen," says Yun as he walked toward Zheng again.

"I don't like to be called like that," says Rin now a bit angry.

Rin's unofficial title became Tiger Queen because of her affinity with the tigers in the manor. She stood over Zheng who was previously called Tiger King but now he received from the servants the title Tiger Prince after seeing how dominant Rin was over the Tigers.

But now she would receive a new one which would be the Tamer of Thunder. It would show that she is the only one except for Yun to be able to touch Thunder or even ride him as she demonstrated a moment ago.

Fang and the others now knew who would inherit Thunder and Shadow once Yun died just from seeing Rin ride on Thunder that easily without Thunder even complaining.

They all tried to mount Thunder without Yun and it never ended well for them as Thunder would throw them off without mercy.

"How about you cheer your older brother on so he can finish his training so we can all return home," says Yun to Rin while overlooking Zheng's training.

"Go, big brother Zheng, you can do it," says Rin in a cute tone trying to cheer Zheng on which helped a bit.

They continued for a little while longer before Yun stopped Zheng from continuing and sent him to rest while Yun helped Rin onto Thunder's back sending her back with Zheng who struggle to keep up with Thunder who slowly straddled through the field.

"What do you think?" asks Yun while looking at Hua and Wei Yan.

"I think a sword suits him better," says Wei Yan having seen how good Zheng was with a sword while training under Gan Ning.

"He will learn, Luoyang wasn't built in one day after all," says Hua thinking that Zheng wasn't a hopeless case.

"I think so too," says Yun agreeing with Hua.

"So you will drill the basics into him for the next two years what then?" asks Hua curious as Yun takes his spear out of the ground and spins it before stopping it and pointing it at Hua.

"He will learn how to kill in the next war. He will be joining Huang Zhong's infantry unit," says Yun seriously as he already had a plan in mind for Zheng.

Yun didn't want to hold Zheng back as he did with Mulan and Fang because of his fear of losing them but he had to accept that he couldn't cheat Lorena and that they will die sooner or later just like he and everyone else.

But that doesn't mean that he won't prepare them well enough so they don't meet her on the battlefield but in old age in their beds. Yun then walked away from the training field to get back to his office to deal with the most troublesome thing that he will be facing this year, his wedding to Zhen Luo.
