Chapter 2: Awake

"Wake up" A girl woke up in a meadow. She looked up to the sky randomly, searching for the birds that sang sweetly. She looked at her arms and leg perplexedly then turned her attention to where she heard splashes from.

She started walking on the dirt path, stepping on twigs that crunch underneath her feet and the wild flowers that grew in between moss rocks.

The air was actually clean, the perfumed scent and the perfect temperature that hums for all life forms. But something about this girl seemed off. The forest could see. It judged her from afar.

The large trees she walked by gave it's own evaluation, the stream she looked into evaluated her facial appearance. From her confused behavior and her walking in circles. They could tell she was from the human world but can't remember anything and it would take a while before she adapts to the new world that lies ahead.

What was her destiny in this new life? The starting point was always the meadow, and every human that appeared would always walk away thinking that the world is rosy.

The system gifted her amnesia. Maybe she could talk, interact a little or even move her hands to communicate. But what is this system?

"Where...where am I?" Good she regained her speech skills. The spirits of the forest waited for other things she could do, but she was running out of time. Great waves of danger would startle her to death by the mere look of it all.

A rabbit hopped to her, looked at her then Nuzzled against her foot "Listen to me human, you must prepare for your first test. The first test you must pass before the forest let's you leave alive..."

"W-what is this test?" She asked a bit frightened especially when she heard it say alive.

"A test based on survival" She was amused and felt awkward about talking to something that didn't have legs and arms like herself. As it hopped away, she wondered if there were other things in the forest that could talk.

Maybe that's why she heard whispers when sher passed by large mahogany trees and looked in between rose bushes.

She began to walk again on thee path that grew wider with time. She passed the area of sheltering branches from the heights and went to a place free from trees.

She stood there for a while starring at the vast open plain. She was about to turn when she heard chatters from the back. Dull witted creatures were behind. She put her hand over her mouth as her heart raced. They were indeed scary.

Lidless eyes and forked tongue wavered as they celebrated their finding. They wanted her, she could tell.

In their large number, they charged. She had no option, she clenched her fist then turned to run.

She dashed through the plains and with time, she was surrounded by treed again. The goblins were athletic and small it was very easy for them to catch up with her so she had to increase her speed at all cost.

She leaped over creaks and rocks, dodged and zipped past withered trees. With her speed, everything blurred into a mixture of earthly green colours.

She couldn't look back, she was sure they were just a few inches apart. Their laugh frightened her even more and she couldn't think of anything to do to save herself.

Her mind was still grey since the time she woke up. Her brain power couldn't be exercised the way she wanted it to.

She reached the sunlit cliff around her and pulled to a stop. The stout creatures laughed as they slowly enclosed on her. She didn't want to jump, what could be down there. What if it's more monsters that are scarier than the reptile skinned goblins.

She collapsed to the ground, her hands on her arms as her body shook, blood flowed rapidly whilst her skin bubbled and bones reshaped.

Her eyes melted into thick black and her skinned lightened. The goblins were confused but they didn't stop trying to make her scared. They pounded the dirth, snapped and whined as they charged towards her.

In seconds, she just raised a hand and half of the goblins were burnt to crisps. The atmosphere became placid, almost silent as the remaining goblins slowly backed away.

They weren't going to win against her. There was no possible explain how much she changed and took half of their forces in a blink of an eye.

She wasn't the same weak, confused and naked girl. This time, she was clothed, not fully but the new clothes she had on was dark and leathered. The creatures turned on their heels but they couldn't go that far before they were scotched then roasted.

She stared at the corpses on the ground, kicked over a few and soon enough, she reverted back to her form having no memories of what happened to the goblins.

But she did find wings that stretched leathery like a bat's on her back. She walked in circles trying to feel the scales of her new part.

"Wings Acquired" She turned to the direction of the whisper she heard and she saw a reptile with wings on the floor. She picked it up in both her hands and smiled at the tiny creature.

It blinked it's cute lamp like eyes and moved it's head to the side. She scanned it's delicate scaled skin and realised it was still a junior of it's kind.

It bit her finger and sprung from her palms flapping it's wings to keep itself in the air.

"Don't treat me like a baby! I'm 50 years old" It puffed smoke from it's nostrils and tried to breathe out fire but it coughed profusely.

She wanted to hold it again but it back away hissing "I said I'm not a baby!" She nodded and waited for it to say something else.

"I'm your familiar spirit and you're one of us" She nodded not understanding, but she acted like she did.

"You're currently in level five for taking out the hoard of goblins that were about to eat you. You're lucky that your powers activated by default if not you would've been goblin food by now. Get what I'm saying?" She nodded with a serious look on Her face.

"We have a long way to go female 20891"

She wondered why he called her female 20891, does that mean that's her name. "My name is...female 20891"

"Yeah pretty much" The dragon Nuzzled on her shoulder and rested there a bit "Now let's fly to look for a den. I'll also be your navigator, I was programmed by creator to be everything you need" She nodded and arched her wings ready to flap.

She was hundreds of feet above the ground, it was her first time but she felt like she was flying on auto pilot. All her familiar did was scream In excitement. It seemed like it couldn't fly that high. So it was a ride it must've wanted for a long time.

Later at night, Female 20891 went out to scavenge for anything she could put in her stomach. Her familiar assisted in gathering mushrooms and berries it could pick off by their scent.

Bugs zipped in and out of her ears whilst she went deep into the dark Forests. With her sharps nails, it wouldn't be hard to pick out fishes from the stream.

She picked up frogs underneath broad leaves closer to the water and stabbed them with sticks whenever they tried to escape. She got them to feed her baby familiar. She didn't like the idea of it starving.

She traced her way back to the den. Her familiar already set up a fire and sorted the Berries from the mushrooms. She placed the bowl of frogs on a stick and also the fresh fishes she caught waiting for the praise of her familiar.

"You haven't named me yet you know?" She tilted her head. It was giving her the authority to pick a name for it "I'll call you...azarel" she said with a smile.

Soon they were done eating and azarel couldn't move from the tons of frog meet it ate. Female 20891 want an exception, she liked the taste of the silver fishes and green berries. Mushrooms would be for tomorrow, she couldn't eat anymore.

"Listen Female 20891" Azazel called her attention. "Your death game has started, and it's important to know, you will kill many others like you."

She was confused. Why?

she had tons of questions to ask. Why was she required to kill? She woke up in a strange place naked and alone. Was ambushed by goblins, somehow all of them got killed and she was left with wings that she can't control. Everything was a big question mark and thinking about it made her head ache.

"Tomorrow...I'll explain more" And it was amazing to see a little dragon talk.

Hours later, the ground shook and there was a growl from outside the den. Female 20891 ran out with Azazel on her shoulder to check what was going on. They tilted their heads to the sky and saw a beast so big that eclipsed the moon.

"20891, that's a level 300 creature. We have to run...Now!"
