who am i?

"that's ¥300" Junjie said monotonously like he was adapted to talking like a robot. To him it was cashier accent but his boss always knew he just liked messing around.

His life was like dry paint and time never seized to share similarities with a racing snail. He packed up what the old customer bought and waited for her to pay.

She was much slower than an average grandma, he tapped impatiently on the counter as the woman searched for the money in her purse.

He sat there with nothing to do but watch the woman in live slow motion and the TV hung on the wall showed nothing but the same soda commercials over and over again.

Once the woman paid he smiled in relief and ushered her out. Business was always slow on Monday mornings, adults and kids were probably busy doing one thing or the other while he just stayed in the convenient store doing nothing entertaining.

Once his shifts over, he can do what he's always wanted to. "Junjie" His boss called out plopping an envelop on the counter "Use it wisely this time."

He simply nodded and stood up from his seat. His monthly pay just arrived, but he's gonna gamble with it.

He headed out with his money in his bag as he made way down the shortcuts to the club he called his second home.

He looked perpetually in a hurry and suspicious with the way he looked around checking if the local cops were around or not.

He knew that the club was full of thugs and drug pushers but he believed that someday he'd place a bet and win it.

"Junjie son" He was startled by the rumble of a voice coming from a shaded corner with two figures and bottles all over the place. It was actually soft but powerful enough to send shivers down a spine. Especially when you know that particular tone and where it's coming from.

He moved closer, parting through the dirty cloud of smoke coming from the cigarette in the man's mouth.

"Came here for another round?" He asked laughing. Junjie nodded at the tattooed man as he crossed his legs then waved at a passing bartender.

"Collect the money" the suited male did as he said, "We're going to play a simple game of rock, paper, scissors"

The anger in Junjie's eyes didn't frighten the seated thug, instead it made him laugh at his weak efforts to prove that he was more than a rock, paper, scissors game.

"Ready?" he asked the younger and the boy nodded.

"If you can win me once, I'll give you a million won. If I win you twice or three out of three, you never show your face here again."

Junjie was tired of everyone looking down on him. He was sure he'd win, carry the million and his own money back home and move to a beautiful place with women that sparkle like Minecraft diamonds.

His opponent didn't need to get up, he was still seated with a woman in his lap and a hand holding a glass of wine.

"ready?" Junjie nodded feeling every ounce of courage to win him.

"Rock, Paper, scissors!" A smile was flashed after they shot their chances.

"Rock, paper, scissors!!!" they shot the same thing and it ended a tie.

"Rock, paper, scissors!!!"

"Game set!" The waiter announced "Winner...sir Blue Barrel" the waiter pointed at the man with two cigarettes hanging from his mouth as he laughed at the failure Junjie.

He plopped a case full of money on the table, pushing aside the bottles that were on it. He opened up the case with an evil grin implanted on his grizzled face with dead cigar scent oozing from him.

"This money could've been yours young Junjie" He slammed the case after he noticed how smitten the young boy was by the sight of the beautiful papers. He'd only dream to have that kind of money, because he'd never get it.

"Get out Junjie... you lost! you can't even win me in a simple elementary school game" Junjie's rage was pouring out, he was fed up with the constant insults. He played a good part at swallowing his retort, laugh over the pain of the words based on his failure as if it didn't hurt him emotionally. He was tired of being teased like he was a piece of non disposable trash.

His fist began to clench and his jaw stilled, one more insult and he would explode.

"Failure..."

That was the last second to his ticking time bomb and he launched himself at blue barrel raining punches on his head as if he wanted to smash him deep into the earth.

He gave the man a headbutt and scratched his bald head with a broken bottle piece, grabbed the suitcase and ran.

The waiter made an emergency alarm and suited men started trooping out from their quarters in the bar.

All Junjie had to do was get to the train station with the money and all his problems will be solved. He can finally prove he's not a failure if and only If he can get away with the case and move out of state.

He ran through a maze of buildings and side streets, fully aliened with where he was heading to but he'd had to keep on running without looking back, even if the mob was right behind him.

He bolted down paths, quickened his pace whenever he had to jump a fence. He leaned against a brick wall to catch his breathe a little but once he heard the heavy thud of boots, he knew he had to skip out on the little break.

He wheezed as his burning lungs gasped for air, he had no idea why he'd been running but it felt like years. his throat was dry, legs numbed and sore from the distance he'd ran and jumped.

He was heading for a rose bush wall and he had no other choice but to jump through and land wherever it'll lead him to. As soon as he busted out, he landed on his feet as his eyes quickly examined where he was.

He was on a highway.

He tried moving but he felt a sharp pain in his ankle. He had no time to pity his broken leg from the height he jumped, he had to drag it across the road and avoid the speeding cars as soon as possible.

That moment, everything slowed down as his lungs contracted with force and he struggled to remain conscious and keep running but his body completely weakened and before he knew it, he saw his body flying in mid air and where he landed after gravity took place, he had no clue.

He heard screams in the background but his eyes were weighed and everything went dark as the mumbles, horns and screams of panic filled his ears but it all faded into a muffled buzz. Then, he blacked out completely.
