Chapter 1: Birth

The sound of an egg cracking resounded through the dimly lit cave; scurrying noises heard alongside with it as the egg continued to hatch open. Piece by piece, the soft shell of the egg crumbled and leaked a slimy green liquid.

A grey-colored hand emerged from a hole in the shell, ripping even larger chunks of the egg off. Continuing to rip and tear the shell, the figure inside the egg became clearer and clearer. A slim grey figure, almost as thin as bones had ripped itself out of its own egg as it fell to the floor, chittering.

"Chi Chi Ka Ka!"

The grey figure slowly crept to its hands as it began to crawl towards its egg, proceeding to bring its head to a piece of it and bite in. It began to consume the skin of the egg, gathering any of the pieces as it slowly stood taller and taller, eventually consuming the entire egg and standing up completely straight.

"Krii!"

After letting out a pitiful screech, the grey figure started scampering around, possibly in search of more food and nutrients.

====================

'Food... Light... Darkness...'

Those are all that is on my mind right now. Ever since awakening in that strange egg, Ive been starving. So much so, that I had to eat the skin of the egg, it tasted foul. I've been on the hunt since, in search of more food.

Oh... that's perfect timing. Several small worms scavenged along the ground were now in my sight. Unable to help myself, I leapt at them, ripping them to shreds with my intrinsic claws, before shoving them into the grey maw I was born with.

It was a strange body. It was weak, but it did have its perks. A lightweight and small frame, perfect for running and jumping. Along with biological weapons in the shape of claws, what more could a freshly killed person ask for?

Before you ask what I'm talking about, let me answer for you. I was killed ten minutes ago, or I suppose I should say my old body was. I was a hitman, I prided myself on the stealthy murders of my victims. I was in the middle of a hit when I was quickly put down from a distance with a tranquilizing bullet. When I awoke, I found myself strapped to an electric chair. You can figure out the rest from there.

After dying, I woke up once again, my body felt lighter and I felt like I was trapped in a bubble. This bubble was soon revealed to be the skin of the egg I was trapped in, it seemed like I had been reborn into some alternative race. I definitely was not on Earth, these fuckers would have been discovered by now if I was. I was on some alien planet, with strange creatures who were surprisingly humanoid.

I don't know too much about biology, however I'm decently sure that bipedal creatures have a much greater advantage than other organisms due to their ability to harness tools. Thankfully, I didn't get the complete combat-uselessness of a human. Those bodies were so ill-suited for my line of work that it was painful. I wished for none other than a set of claws or enhanced bones, it would have made my job so much easier. Regardless, whats done is done, I just have to make the best out of my new body.

As I finished my worm bufette, I scanned the area in search of any immediate threats. After finding nothing but a puddle, I began to inspect my new body now that my hunger has been temporarily sated.

Looking into the slightly reflective puddle, what stared back was a mass of grey bone. Two rows of teeth, along with a rounded head appeared in my view. I wasn't sure how I was seeing, but I wasn't about to complain. My hands were shaped into some weird claws, and my body was practically a ribcage.

Although this is a giant step up from the human body, it was still very flawed. There were no means of enhanced movement, vision, or ability. The only real change was the light frame and the claws, but all could be worked with, I'm sure I could manufacture some crude tools to work with in this cave.

I wonder where the exit is, though. It would be nice to find the outside of this place.

'Skriiit!'

All is wishful thinking as I hear the sound of another living thing behind me. Turning around, I see what can only be described as a semi-technological being. It seemed to be definitely alien in structure, however it was covered in armor and was holding a small pistol and a knife.

'Skirii!'

Letting out a roar, it pointed its weapon at me, firing two shots of blue energy. One thankfully blew completely by, however I couldn't be lucky twice in a row. The second shot burrowed deep into my forearm, however, the wound wasn't too severe, as I was still able to move it. Still, the injury hurt like hell as I let out a shriek and focused my sights on the enemy in front of me.

It seemed to prefer ranged attacks, however, I don't think it's completely useless in frontal combat due to its knife. It seemed like a winnable fight, one that would also hold great benefit for me. With this conclusion, I began my sprint to close the distance. I had no ranged methods of attacks so this was going to be my best bet.

Letting my injured arm lay by my side, I took a scratch at the arm carrying the knife, hoping to make the enemy drop their weapon. This proved to be successful, as my claws burrowed deep into the shoulder of the arm of the alien, forcing it to let out a painful shriek and drop its knife.

After realizing what just occurred, the alien takes another two shots, however due to the close range and the pain in its arm, the aliens aim was shaky as it missed both of its attacks. The bullets whizzed past me, burrowing themselves in the walls of the cave behind me.

After resetting the position of my arm to a more opportune location for an attack, I took yet another swing at the enemy, this time swiping for its neck. In my attempt to land a killing blow, the alien was able to slightly back away from the slash. However, my attack didn't go without fruition as my claws made a graze on the face of the enemy, letting a trickle of blue blood seep from the wound as the enemy hissed in pain before letting out another two shots with its gun.

It seemingly regained its composure, as the two bullets landed in my injured arm, which was now riddled with holes, and barely attached to my body.

This was going very bad. I'm not yet accustomed to combat in this body, nor am I used to these claws. Focusing even harder, I take one stab at the chest of the alien with my claws, causing a deep gash in the upper body, blood dripping out at a pace that alarms the alien.

'Skriii!'

It seems the alien is in extreme pain, as it writhes around, attempting to knock my claw out of its chest. Its strength proved to be less than what was required, as my claws only burrowed deeper and deeper into the chest of the alien as it let out louder and more violent screams.

'Skri! Skriiii!'

Wanting to end this fight quickly, I force my injured arm to rise and take a swing at the side of the throat, near where a human jugular vein would be. My claws burrow deep into its throat, as its body quakes a few times, grasping for any semblance of life, before slowly going limp and falling to the ground.

Ripping my hands out of the enemy, I take a look at what I had won from this battle. A knife, which would be completely useless to me since I had biological claws, and a strange gun that fired energy rather than bullets. It was foreign to me. I don't think I will be able to fire it with the hands I have, so the best I can do is take a look at the inside of it to get information on how the weaponry of this world works.

However, I first need to rest and heal. Looking towards the corpse of the dead alien, I begin to chow down on it. Ripping the flesh off of its bones and spitting back out the armor and clothing. It tasted much better than the egg or the worms, however, it still was horrible.

After finishing most of the body of the alien, I could feel my body start to drift asleep. This was fine by me, as I needed rest, however, this was not a safe place to be. It was evident that enemies were around here, so I had to find a safer spot to be. I needed to find one fast as the urge to sleep was strengthening rapidly.

Around me was pure cave and darkness, I could barely see anything. However, I assume that the location I was born in would be safe. Hurrying back to the place of my birth, I could feel sleep overcoming me, however I was lucky enough to make it to the clearing of my birthplace before passing out completely.

As my mind drifted to sleep, several small words appeared in my vision.
