Chapter 2: Ailish Dawson

"This is the oldest church in the country, students. Be careful with what you touch," the tour guide, Nathan, said as the second-year college students enter the majestic church with a roman touch of architecture.

Ailish rolls her eyes as the girls in front of her stops every damn inch to take a picture together. Since they arrived here in the city, these ladies kept on taking selfies and group photos with everything they see. They started taking pictures with a light post that was decorated like a leaf with a long stem, then they went to take a picture in the middle of the road which almost made them get sent to prison.

Nell, Ailish's athlete friend who won two gold medals this year in track and field, groaned and turned to her, "Want me to punch their plastic ass?" he asks with a smirk on his face.

"They would love that. They've been dying to sleep with you since day 1," Ailish raised her eyebrow with a playful look on her face.

"Too bad for them, I only want to get laid if you're the one riding me," Nell winked at her and chuckled.

Ailish faked vomiting as they walk slowly behind the ladies but a low and loud voice caught their attention, a priest was staring at them.

"She's here! She's here! The woman's here!" he shouted with his fingers shaking while it points at their direction, "The prophecy is happening!" he added.

Ailish and Nell wrinkled their brows and look at each other, "Prophecy?" they asked each other.

Two priests then came running towards the weird priest and calmed him down. They turned to Ailish and Nell, "We're sorry, he's old and sick. Don't mind what he said. He always says that when he hears a woman's voice in the church," the young priest said and apologetically bows his head.

"Dawson! Kingsley! What are you doing? Come here!" Their professor saw Ailish and Nell standing behind while the class was already on their way to the altar.

"She's here. The Devil will soon be an angel," the priest continued muttering.

Ailish and Nell then can't help but let out a sudden laugh, "How can the devil be an angel?" Nell said in between his laugh.

Ailish nodded while wiping her tears from laughing, "He WAS an angel. But how can he be an angel again? Oh my goodness."

Nell pulls Ailish towards to the group when he saw the way the priest looks at them as if they just said a blasphemy. "Woah, that was weird as f*ck, Lish. Are we in a church or some satanic cult?" he whispered as they started to walk behind their group.

Ailish snorted, "Yeah, that was weird. But, I felt like that weird priest was staring at me."

"Boy, he's blind! Didn't you see that all white eyes? I mean, grey eyes. He's blind," Nell wrinkled his nose at Ailish, "You dreaming?"

"But what was the prophecy? Now I'm curious," Ailish smirked while looking at Nathan, "Does he know?" she gestured in front.

Nell looks at Nathan, "Yeah, maybe. He's a tour guide. He's dumb if he doesn't know."

"Let's ask him later when we're in a break," Ailish smiled and listened to what the class was talking about.

Nell looks back at the priests, they were still staring at Ailish, and for some reasons, it gave him goosebumps.

After an hour, they were given a short break to eat snacks or go to the toilet room. Nell and Ailish were waiting in the church's garden while watching Nathan talking to their professor.

"Do you think Nathan's hot? Like hot. Look at that ass," Nell suddenly said, making Ailish look at him with shock.

"You like guys?" she asks in surprise.

Nell looks at her with dead eyes, "The hell? So, girls can check other girls out but guys can't? Ailish, you judgemental lady. I hate you," he looks at Ailish like she was a piece of sh*t he stumbles upon.

"What? I was just asking, if you like guys, I don't care. I'll support you, whatever. I love you no matter what."

It's been 10 years since he and Ailish met. They just moved to the town and the first kid he met was Ailish. She was playing her ukulele outside their house as they pass by one Sunday afternoon. His parents called her and she greeted them respectfully. After then, whenever Ailish sees him, she calls him and asks to play with him. It was her who made him get close to her. He was never interested in anything other than running, but whenever Ailish is there, he rather plays with her than practice running.

Nell just nods his head with Ailish's reply and turned to back to Nathan who was about to go somewhere as their professor turn to their groupmates.

"Nate!" Nell called while raising his hand to get his attention.

Ailish raised her right brow, how close does Nell think he is with Nathan to call him Nate? She rolled her eyes and pulls Nell's hand down.

"Calm down, sassy boy," she whispered and smiled at Nathan as he approaches.

"Yes, is there anything I can do for you two love birds?" Nate asks with a sneaky smile while staring at Ailish and Nell's hands holding each other.

Nell groaned and pulled his hands away from Ailish. It never bothers him when Ailish touches him but as he grows older, he somewhat feels uncomfortable when people see them holding each other's hand, "Ew. No, we-- I mean, she has a question about some prophecy," he said and pointed at Ailish who's pouting at him.

It irritates her when Nell gets awkward about her holding his hand when people are near. He was the clingy person between them. Since he's the lonely type, he always holds her hand to show that she's his best friend. But since they began senior high school, he distances himself. For her, it makes her feel like Nell's there to protect her and it's making her sad when he's acting distanced.

"Yeah," Ailish sighed and looks at Nathan, "What's the prophecy?" she asks with a blank expression. She doesn't expect any serious answer but when Nathan's face turned pale and he frantically looks around, her face went shocked.

"There's a prophecy?" She asks in a loud manner.

Nathan's eyes went huge and covered her mouth, "Shh! You don't want the priests to hear you!"

Nell pulled Nathan's hand away from Ailish, "Easy there boy. Don't touch," he said with a low voice.

Nathan sighed and looks for a place where there are fewer people and gestured them to follow him. Ailish and Nell smirked at each other. The excitement's beginning to stir their guts.

They went inside the church and checked the confessional if it was empty. Nathan went in the Priest's side while Nell and Ailish went in the room for the penitents.

Ailish and Nell giggles while Nathan heavily feels his heart pounding in fear, "How did you know about the prophecy?"

"We heard the priests," Nell answered immediately.

"Yeah, a crazy one was pointing at us," Ailish wanted to specifically say that the priest was pointing at her, but it was unreasonable. He was blind, "he said something about a woman being here."

Nathan wasn't able to answer for a few seconds. Ailish and Nell waited with their chest-pounding as loud as Nathan's. But the moment Nathan spoke, they felt as if their breathing stopped and all they can hear was Nathan's low and cold voice, it was echoing, it was deafening, it was terrifying.

"A child of God will turn the devil into his former form- an angel."

After saying those words, Nell and Ailish gasped for air. They held their aching chest.

"What the hell?" Nell whispered.

Nathan went out and went to Ailish, "Come on, let's go. I'll explain somewhere," he whispered while his eyes were lingering, looking around if someone saw them.

Ailish nodded and took a deep breath. Nell followed them outside.

"Okay, what you felt was... something unexplainable. It just happens whenever someone hears the prophecy, okay? I felt that too."

They were standing in the parking lot behind a car. Nathan's arms are crossed while staring with a serious expression at Ailish and Nell.

"It's true. There's a prophecy. And that caused the women in this city to go to church less. They said they didn't want to be involved in the prophecy. But you know, if you're meant to fulfill it, not going to church won't help," Nathan shakes his head in disappointment.

As the years go by, the number of women avoiding mass became larger. Even if the religious people try to convince them, they'd rather attend religious group meetings than going to church.

"You mean... a woman will change the devil?" Ailish asks with a smirk. She doesn't believe any of it, of course, she thought that maybe the confessional was just narrow which made them not able to breathe properly.

Nathan nodded, "Yes. A woman will change the Devil's heart."

"Are we in some kind of kinky movie?" Nell chuckles and pushes Ailish softly while remembering a movie they watched about the "devil" having a BDSM.

"What? No." Nathan irritatedly replied, "Are you nuts? You don't think this is real, do you?"

"Of course not. How can the devil turn back into an angel? He's the devil. He'll always be."

Nell's words silenced Nathan and Ailish, he's right. But there's a part that saddened Ailish. She always pitied the selfish and disobedient child of God. He was wrong, he was stupid. But it always makes her wonder, will he turn back? Did it never cross his mind to say sorry?

Of course not, the devil himself's sitting in his mansion, watching some kinky movie about the "devil" which was badly portrayed since he, himself, doesn't like BDSM. It weirds him out.

It never crossed his mind to say sorry to his dear daddy. He even added something to the prophecy for it to never come true.

"When the woman meets the devil and decided to turn him back, she, herself will turn into the Devil." He whispered before changing his face into a handsome college student who's ready to cause harm to the academic status of some humans.
