Chapter 16: Becoming the best cook in the world

Hunter and Kolvar quickly changed into their new clothes. Kolvar forgot how a new cloth would feel on his skin. His eyes watered up. Hunter adjusted his new robes. They weren't nearly as comfortable as the clothes he used to wear, but it would have to do. After changing their clothes, Hunter laid back on the horse.

"Aren't we going to the village?" asked Kolvar.

"And do what? We can go when the sunrise,=. Just sit there and relax as a free man," said Hunter. He looked at the starry sky. The three moons in the sky drew Hunter's attention. He couldn't get over the fact he was in a completely new world with a system. Everything that had transpired felt like a dream to Hunter.

Hunter noticed Kolvar wiping off the tears rolling out of his eyes. But he didn't ask anything about it. Finally, Kolvar sat on the ground, leaning back on the horse.

"Do you think we are really free? What if they found out we killed them?" asked Kolvar.

"Slaves can't kill their masters. They have a soul bond remember,"

"I almost forgot. How did you kill them? That dagger. It's special, isn't it? Still, how did you kill Xander?"

"Sometimes you just have to stop asking questions and enjoy the outcome, Kolvi,"

Surprisingly, Kolvar just sighed with a smile. Being out there, breathing in the fresh air, and lying on the ground made Kolvar's heart lighter. He even forgot about everything that happened and enjoyed the moment. For some reason, being with him made Kolvar feel safe.

"What do I call you? Something tells me you don't want me to call you Parker anymore,"

Hunter was still looking at the sky when Kolvar asked him. Normally in a situation like this when someone transmigrates into someone else's body, they would take over their identity completely. Hunter had watched movies and read so many novels with that same plot. However, he couldn't do that. Especially after killing Xander and his family. Living as PArker was equal to asking to be arrested. With the memories he inherited from Parker, Hunter could tell this world didn't have year-long trials and a capable justice system. Once someone finds out they killed Xander and his family, Hunter would lose his head without question.

Hence, Hunter knew he had to start his new life from the ground up. Fortunately, he could use his real name because no one knew about him in this world

"Hunter. You can call me Hunter," said Hunter.

"Hunter," Kolvar repeated his name.

"Let's assume, we don't get caught-"

Hunter cut short Kolvar's words.

"Don't assume. We are not going to,"

"Okay. We don't get caught. What's our next move? You must have something in your mind," said Kolvar. Hunter slowly picked up the scroll he had put into his pocket. He tossed the scroll to Kolvar. When Kolvar opened up the scroll, he saw the map of the city of Bellburn and a spot marked with an X.

"Dear Jayden. Since you are such a good son and a better cook, I am giving you this workshop fully stockpiled to make us so many batches of devil's breath. Do not utter a word about this to anyone. This is between you and me. I know you will make your father proud and richer," Kolvar read the words under the map.

"What do you think?" asked Hunter with a wry smile.

"I think unless you are a cook like Jayden, we can't do shit with this place,"

(Brewmasters are part of Cook specialization)

Kolvar was indeed right. That was the reason Hunter chose to become a cook using the System's free specialization token. Choosing any other specialization wouldn't help him in his current situation. However, if he chose to become a cook, he could brew a damn good devil's breath and start his criminal empire without a huge sum of investment. After all, every major criminal boss dealt in drugs for a reason. Dealing in drugs was the easiest way to make money. Since this world didn't have major law enforcement and technology, Hunter was fairly certain he could become a major kingpin in a short amount of time.

Making more money was Hunter's first priority. Because without enough astral coins, he wouldn't be able to climb higher in the cultivation ladder. Simply put, more coins equated to more power. In the short amount of time he had lived in this world, he knew how important it is to be the strongest one. Otherwise, someone else would do the same to him as he did to Xander.

"I am one. In fact, I am better than Jayden,"

"So you're a cook?" Kolvar tilted his head.

"Yep," said Hunter. For some reason, Kolvar wasn't as surprised as he had expected he would be. Hunter had surprised him way too many times since the morning.

"And which level cook?" asked Kolvar. According to Parker's memories, each specialization had its own ranking system. There were four kinds of cooks; Novice Cooks, Home Cooks, Noble Cooks, and Royal Cooks. In terms of talent and wages, the Novice cooks were the lowest, and the Royal Cooks were the highest. The latter exclusively worked for the king and royal family members, hence the name.

[Suppose the host chooses the cook specialization, the host will be a Royal Cook] The system informed Hunter.

"Royal cook," Hunter calmly said. Kolvar's eyes went wide.

Kolvar still couldn't believe this was Parker. Still, he was talking to him like nothing had happened. Deep down, KOlvar was slowly adjusting to the fact that this man was not Parker and Parker was dead.

"Are you kidding me? You're not even forty years old. How can you be a Royal Cook?" Kolvar questioned Hunter.

"What can I say? I am a genius,"

"Who are you?" Kolvar frowned.

"Hunter," Hunter grinned.

"Even if you are a Royal Cook, it's no use to us. First, no one will believe you are a royal cook. Even if you somehow proved to them you are one, they wouldn't hire you without knowing your family background and history,"

"Who said I want to work for anyone?" Hunter snickered.

"And cooks don't only cook meals, they also brew devil's breath and every booze in this world. We have a devil's button, a workshop, and a cook. What does that tell you?"

"Don't tell me you're going to produce devil's breath," Kolvar's brows arched up.

"We are going to produce the best devil's breath this world has ever seen," Hunter grinned. Just the thought of building his own criminal empire from the ground up made him feel so excited. He had never felt like this ever before.

"System, I choose the Cook specialization," Hunter finally chose a specialization. If he had chosen any other, it would have put his life in danger once the nobles got to know him. How could a nobody like him become the best in something? In this world, only nobles and the rich had the right to be the best. Hunter didn't want anyone to check his background, like where he came from. However, if he brewed the best devil's breath and supplied it through someone else, the risk would be greatly minimized. Of course, it had its own risks but compared to other ways, this was the best one.

Unexpectedly, Hunter felt an acute pain in his head as though a sharp needle was penetrating his brain. He gritted his teeth. The pain lasted for almost a minute, and it took everything in him to control himself from screaming. Finally, the pain lessened.

"You alright?" Kolvar asked, looking at the sudden change on his face.

Hunter closed his eyes for a moment. Suddenly, Hunter was able to recall recipes for thousands of dishes. The knowledge of culinary arts flooded his mind. He could tell how the chefs back on earth prepared his food and what the chefs did right and wrong, as well as what could have been done to make the food better. He focused on the devil's breath. The complete process of brewing the best devil's breath became apparent to him. In a few seconds, he listed out everything he needed in his mind.

"The system is fucking OP," Hunter mumbled under his breath. With enough time, Hunter was sure he would be the best in every specialization there is in this world. Anything and everything seemed possible for Hunter at that moment.

"How much is a bottle of devil's breath going?" asked Hunter.

"Two astral coins," said Kolvar. The devil's breath was literally called the poor man's wine. So it was natural for them to be so cheap.

"If it's selling for two astral coins, I wonder how much it would cost us to produce one bottle,"

"You do realize you've killed the sole supplier of devil's breath and the devil's buttons right? Where do you plan to get the devil's buttons after you use them?" Kolvar pointed at the two sacks full of devil's buttons to Hunter.

To Kolvar's surprise, Hunter smiled.

"You don't need devil's buttons to brew the devil's breath. I have a much cheaper and easier to find alternative,"
