"You have to let me take care of her, Nicolás. You haven't done a good job of it." his mother said. He could detect the hint of anger in her tone and he knew she had every right to be.

This was all his fault.

He has messed up and had almost caused Annalise her life, he could still taste the lingering bitter taste of fear as he drove here. She was still unconscious and he couldn't tell what she would be like when she woke up and realized she had killed someone.

He hated himself for this, he could never imagine how scared she must have felt at that moment, enough for her to stab and kill the man who'd attacked her. It must have taken so much for her to do that and like an idiot, he'd let himself be swayed enough to stay the night at Abyss watching some stripper's show.
