Chapter 58: The Cost of Power

"He knew the risks that came with it." 

"They are our kids, but after a certain age, they should be responsible for their own choices."

A drop of tears starts to paint her cheek wet. "You killed him with your own hands, and I even helped you."

Alaric sighed. "Did you forget his last words? He didn't regret anything." 

"I already gave him 100 years of peace, causing us many troubles and nearly getting us killed a few times." 

"It was his choice. A human only lives 70 years or so, and they're content with that." 

"Our kids can easily live for hundreds of years; he should have felt that was enough."

"Why are all our kids so emotional, Darling? At least that brute son and daughter are so simple-minded." 

"They just help us without making any relation to our enemies."
