Chapter 6: Chapter 6 Final Test

"Each of you will be assigned a target. Your job is to kill the target. You will have a standard galactic month to complete your mission. Collateral damage is acceptable, but you can't directly kill unrelated parties."

The woman informed the remaining applicants of their final test. Kole was surprised by the fact that there were only two tests but accepted it since the first test had killed off all but a few of the applicants.

As Kole received the file on his target for the test. As he scrolled through the file a certain note caught his eye.

"Is that so."

Kole muttered to himself as his mind turned violently. He made his way off towards the shuttle that would take him to the planet of his target. The shuttle set down a fair distance from the town where the target resided. The target's name was Julian Leonardson, a third rank cultivator who was currently ruling the town. He had appeared a few years ago and murdered the last lord and everyone loyal to him before declaring himself the lord. As nobody could threaten him, he ruled the town as a tyrant.

Ever since he had been abusing the townspeople, abusing them when he gets bored, forcing the young woman to serve on him hand and foot, and recently he had begun forcing travellers and other townsfolk into slavery to build him a "royal castle".

Among everything Kole homed in on the slavery. Being a slave was a living hell, and while he prioritised his survival above everything else, something in him seemed to snap.

'However, no matter his personality, he's a third rank. A straight fight would probably kill me.'

After walking a fair distance Kole arrived at the edge of the town. Even from the outskirts Kole could hear the sound of slaves working. Kole looked at himself as he thought about his options. Although he wasn't a slave anymore, he never had the chance to

'Definitely look like a slave, scales and claws stand out though. A good layer of dirt should cover it up. If I retract my claws as much as I can they'll probably not be very noticeable.'

Kole leapt onto the roof of a nearby house as he made his way over to the slaves. As it was night, he went unnoticed. After following the sounds across town, he found the site where they were building the castle.

The would be more apt to be called a large mansion it would be quite luxurious for such a remote town.

Blending in with the slaves was easy, all Kole needed to do was act like he did when he was a slave. Nobody even noticed him as he started working on the mansion. The work on the mansion droned on as one new slave began working as well.

As the mansion was entering its final stages it would be finished in another two weeks at most. Despite the fact that the mansion was almost complete Julian was nowhere in sight. Kole guessed that he wouldn't show up until it was finished. Despite no guards being present nobody tried to run away. There were practically no first ranks in the town, much less a third class. If anybody defied him, they would be killed in a heartbeat.

'Although it's necessary to go unnoticed, I really don't like being a slave again. I wish this guy would hurry up. At least visit your future mansion to see how it's going to look. I'd rather go back to the first test than this.'

As Kole grumbled to himself while still acting like a slave time passed and the mansion slowly progressed ever so closer to completion. Kole continued to work with the slaves as he took the extra time to memorize the layout of the mansion. Every once in a while, thug looking guys would show up and throw a load of stale food on the ground for the slaves. The slaves fought over the food and several were injured, and some were trampled to death.

Kole joined the struggle in the back so he wouldn't stand out even though he could eat the dirt if he really needed to. As night fell the slaves were allowed rest, some of them collapsed from exhaustion or died outright. As everyone fell asleep Kole wandered around the town as he looked for where his target currently resided. As it would happen the largest house in the town was lit up and shouting could be heard from inside.

'As he forces others to work to death he sits in luxury, it seems people everywhere are alike.'

As Kole came to a sad truth about people he peered in through one of the windows. Although there were several people including men in the room, Kole located Julian in a heartbeat. Everyone in the room was focusing their attention on one person, the maid girls gave worrying glances, the men flattered him so much they may as well be painting his face with gold.

Kole's face contorted as he gazed upon the sack of filth that was causing so many people to experience the life that he had endured. Julian, completely unaware of the threat to his life that was Kole, was getting drunk on booze and enjoying all of the flattery.

As the sun began to rise Kole snuck back into the mansion grounds and continued the act of being a slave. Days passed and soon the mansion was completed. The slaves all breathed out a heavy sigh of relief as now that the mansion was done, they would no longer be forced to work.

Julian arrived the day after the mansion was completed. He walked onto the grounds with his lackeys and surveyed the completed mansion. Julian turned to all his lackeys and declared.

"We shall have a feast in honour of the completion of my castle! Tell all the town people to show up!"

"Yes sir!"

As his lackeys raced off Julian walked into his mansion with the town girls following behind him. As he walked through the building, he looked over the rooms and the gardens.

"Passable, barely. I guess the slaves are going to need more punishment. Perhaps I should make them fight each other. Hmmm, yes, that sounds fun. I wonder what their faces will look like. Ha ha ha ha ha ha, oh this will be fun."

As Julian wandered the halls of his mansion Kole was resting with the rest of the slaves.

'Finally, I was starting to worry he'd burn the place down for the fun of it.'

Kole wordlessly disappeared from among the slaves. Soon Julian's ideal reality would crumble away before his eyes. Amid the tranquility of the mansions garden Kole crawled around, waiting and preparing for the right time, waiting for the party that Julian had ordered to begin.
