Chapter 52: Middle Mecha

"Even if spirit beasts are considered to be almost extinguished, only being able to find over Star Duo Forest or the sea, and we had mostly substituted their spirit rings for synthetic spirit souls, it doesn't mean that they could be ignored" Shen Yi was making a class.

"They surpassed humans in physical strength and experience, only being due to our wisdom that we are able to face them and even that wisdom is not greater than long-lived spirit beasts. The invention of mecha, battle armors and even the creation of spirit cores were the intent of humanity to recreate and imitate the spirit beasts' strength, being greatly influenced by them." Shen Yi explained. "Even if they are few in number, there are a lot of things that can be learned from them, so it's worth learning about them even if the odds of facing them are very remote."

"Moreover, even nowadays, they had kept an incredible power, making it incredibly difficult to go against them. If it weren't for the Revolutionary Generation led by Huo Yuhao 10.000 years ago, they would have erased humanity from the continent." She explained.

"At the pinnacle of them, standing as the three most powerful spirit beasts, stood the Beast Lords Triangle. Each one stronger to even four-words battle armor limit douluo masters" Shen Yi turned towards the class "Could you say who they are?"

Weilan lifted her hand and answered after receiving a nod "Di Tian, Yi Ma and Mei Ji"

"Correct" Shen Yi nodded.

"Bi Mei? I had never listened about her" Xueqin tilted his head in confusion "For what I know, it wasn't Di Tian and Yi Ma who attacked humanity 10.000 years ago?"

"Most people think exactly the same, Xueqin" Shen Yi said "Di Tian, the Beast Lord, the Golden Eyes Black Dragon King who commanded all the other beasts to attack the humans, making him the greatest danger. And Yi Ma, the Alone Lord, the Thousand Catties Ant Emperor whose strength was said to be even greater than Di Tian. Thankfully, unlike Di Tian, he attacked all alone but with incredible power as he trampled all over the land making it barren."

"It's extensively known their attack, Di Tian's group for one side and Yi Ma for another one. Their attacks being stopped by the Shrek Eight Devils of that time, Huo Yuhao stopping Di Tian and Wu Jian sealing Yi Ma" Shen Yi said "However, what most people don't know is the existence of a third Beast Lord, Mei Ji, the Plant Lord. We only know about her thanks to the records left at Shrek. She isn't as known as the others because she didn't participate in that war, preferring to have a neutral standing. If she would have participated, there's no doubt that it would have been humanity's doom. In the end, Mei Ji can control every plant and is considered the strongest existence over the spirit beasts, her power being said to be in the rank of gods."

"God!?" Xueqin was shocked (So there's a spirit beast with a power of a god? If she were to attack who would have been able to stop her?)

"Thankfully, she never tried to directly attack humanity. However, she is considered the guardian of Star Duo Forest, always protecting it from outside interferences" Shen Yi explained "Even the strongest group of mechas was decimated by her, making Star Duo Forest the inexpugnable heaven for spirit beasts."

"Ding! Dong!" A sound of a bell was heard.

Shen Yi turned towards a clock before returning to look at her students "It seems that class had finished. You need to study the Biology and Pattern of Spirit Beasts for the next day."

Almost no listening to Shen Yi, the middle-class student quickly left the class. They exit their building and went to a near storage like garage building near it.

They opened the big door of over 10 meters tall and enter it, entering into a kind of workshop.

Shrek Academy heavily focused on battle armors, thanks to this there were a lot of workshops everywhere, making it easier for the students to work on their mechas and battle armor.

The inside wasn't clean, with scraps and metal dust everywhere, with a lot of tools laying around. However, the thing in the middle blinded forced you to focus on it, ignoring its surroundings. It was a mecha. A 6 meters tall mecha all gray in color. It was mostly made of Cold Iron with the toughest parts made by Heavy Silver refined by Xueqin. Its characteristics and the metal used made it a White Mecha grasping the Yellow Mecha grade.

Unlike the usual mecha, it wasn't bulky, usually surpassing the 12 meters, instead, it leaned over a slender frame, letting very little space for one driver. This design was the result of Xueqin's designs guided by Mucheng plus the improvement and customization of the others of the class.

It had a simple form of a human, but hid an incredible complexity inside that nobody would think that a group of 9 years old children made it. It was slender to max its agility and to be able to recreate perfectly every of the drivers' movements that was what they focused on more. Due to being made for Weilan, it somehow imitates her frame in scale. It had a short spear over its back as the main weapon, plus two guns with a long barren over its hip as support, making it agility close-ranged and long-ranged mecha.

The middle-class students had used all their knowledge in designing, making, and assembling it, putting in practice all that they had learned and at the same time greatly improve with the actual work. The greatest improvements were Xinglan and Wuhua, both of them had reached and consolidated the rank-4 on their respective jobs. Wuhua being able to customize Xueqin's designs for Weilan and Xinglan being able to create the most complex parts.

Xueqin's case was a strange case. Due to the bizarre way of teaching of Mucheng, he didn't lack practical, making the construction of the mecha less fruitful for him. However, he improved incredibly as he acquired and learned the theoretical part with the help of his classmates, reaching the rank-4 in all of his secondary jobs.

After working on the project for almost 9 months, they finally had finished and assembled most of the mecha, only leaving an opened hole over the chest area.

"Did you already finished the special part, Xueqin?" Xinglan asked as she approached a big metal piece next to the mecha. That piece was the missing part of the mecha, its engine. "All the circuits are made and prepared. The engine is already finished, being able to start testing the mecha."

"Did you let that part prepared?" Xueqin asked.

Xinglan nodded "It was a lot of work, needing more than 2 months to make it true, but I finally was able to do it yesterday. It only lacks your part."

"It was a lot of work work!" Wuhua said with a tired tone.

Overall, the construction of a mecha wasn't so difficult. You could build one from scraps and joining it together, however, the design and interference with each part was incredibly important at the time of fighting.

This mecha's design was mostly based on Xueqin's design, requiring from him a lot of time for the others to understand it. In the end, his design was very bizarre and went away from the usual one. Moreover, to make it even more difficult, they decided to make it able to get used to a new engine, preparing the mecha to work for the normal engine and for a new engine that maybe would never be created.

"I'm not ready yet, sorry" Xueqin said apologetically.

"Don't worry" Wuhua said "Even if I think that it was kind of useless, it was a great way to improve my designs. I really learned a lot with it for future references. Anyway, you are trying to push yourself too much!"

"Professor Shen said that it might be needed for our graduation" Lizhi said.

"Knowing her, that 'might' should be a 'surely' " Xinglan said "If we want to graduate and directly enter the inner court, we would need it."

Xueqin looked at the engine determined "We have 3 months, I will make something about it."

"Don't worry too much" Wuhua said "Even without it, next week we will have it finished. It would be a downgrade not having it, but in this state, it should be good enough to pass any test. At the end, who could make something better at our age."

"True" All of them nodded. "For the middle class, all of us getting to the inner court!" Wuhua cheered.

"For the middle class!" Everyone shouted lifting their hands.

CREATORS' THOUGHTS

Sometime without writting as I had been busy. I don't really know how much I could write so I won't promise anything about the releases.

Next chapter would be about their growth over a year at Shrek. Then, the novel would finally reach canon, appearing Tang Wulin.
