Chapter 1: The Son of The Silver Dragon King

In the heart of the Star Dou Great Forest on the Douluo Continent lies a tranquil lake pulsating with life energy, a sanctuary rarely trespassed by mortal feet. Within its depths, a colossal creature, with the head of a bull and the body of a serpent, trembles in awe. Despite being a formidable ten-year-old soul beast of the Douluo Continent, it quails before the imposing presence of those below.

These beings, referred to reverently as "the big guys," encircle a majestic silver dragon, their voices raised in an urgent plea for restraint.

"My lord, though I understand your longing for the young master, is it prudent to venture recklessly into the human realm?" The speaker, a black dragon with golden eyes named Ditian, holds sway as the mightiest spirit beast in the Star Dou Forest and across the entire Douluo Continent. Yet, before this silver dragon, he humbly acknowledges their kinship.

Yinlong, his gaze icy, communicates in the ancient language of dragons, "I shall not reveal my true form. Instead, I will search for him as my avatar, Na'er."

"But, my lord, without knowledge of the young master's whereabouts, are we to scour the entirety of the human realm?" Ditian interjects, his concern palpable.

Yinlong snorts disdainfully, "Though unaware of Lin'er's current location, the day of his martial spirit's awakening draws near. Once he awakens my Silver Dragon Spear, he shall find his rightful place."

A wry smile tugs at Ditian's lips. Despite Yinlong's authority, had it not been Yinlong himself who, without explanation, dispatched a man and a spear into a human city? Yet, such thoughts dare not cross Ditian's lips, lest he invoke the dragon's wrath.

Six years prior, the lineage's master, the Silver Dragon King—a clone of the former Dragon God—unexpectedly conceived a child. Even more perplexing, the child emerged after only a month of gestation, untouched by another. The Silver Dragon King, disinterested in humanity, gazed upon his son, sealed the Silver Dragon Spear within him, and entrusted him to Zi Ji for disposal. Yet, the yearning for his bloodline gnawed at his heart, compelling him now to reclaim his offspring.

And so, the farce unfolds.

"I have made my decision. Speak no more of it," the Silver Dragon King declares, closing his eyes in silent resolve.

Ditian, Xiong Jun, and Bi Ji exchange knowing glances, their expressions tinged with resignation. Can the Silver Dragon King's avatar truly safeguard the young master? Perhaps not as assuredly as he proclaims.

What if, in a moment of madness, he appears before the young master as a six-year-old girl, claiming to be his mother? Would the young master slay his own kin on the spot? Best to have Zi Ji accompany the lord in secret.

Alas, the intricacies of this world elude comprehension.

...

Within the hallowed halls of the Qibao Glazed Sect on the Douluo Continent, an elder presents a list to Sect Master Ning Fengzhi. "Sect Master, this is the roster of individuals slated to awaken their martial spirits tomorrow. Besides the eldest lady and Young Master Gu Lin, there are thirty-two others."

"Thank you kindly," Ning Fengzhi acknowledges with a gracious smile.

In the blink of an eye, the day arrives for Rongrong and Xiaolin's martial spirit awakening—a six-year span now vanished.

As for the martial spirit brought back by Uncle Gu from afar, enabling Xiaolin's awakening, details elude Ning Fengzhi. Gu Lin, retrieved by Bone Douluo Gu Rong from the scene of his son and daughter-in-law's murder, remains unaware of the circumstances.

Though Gu Rong's demeanor may be eccentric, his affection for his adopted grandson remains steadfast, despite past indiscretions.

To Ning Fengzhi's left and right sit Gu Rong and Douluo Sword Chenxin, scrutinizing the roster.

"Shall we make a wager, Old Swordsman?" Gu Rong suggests, eyeing the list with a mischievous glint.

Chenxin, aware of his friend's penchant for mischief, braces himself for the inevitable absurdity.

With a sly grin, Gu Rong proposes, "Let us wager whose innate soul power reigns supreme—Xiaolin's or Rongrong's."

"Indeed? And do you anticipate high-quality martial spirits for Xiaolin? With his comely countenance... one wonders how potent his martial spirit could be," Chenxin muses over his tea.

Gu Rong scoffs, "Your judgment belies your blade's reputation. Can one truly gauge martial spirit strength by appearance alone? Recall the former Pope Qian Xunji of the Spirit Hall, whose martial spirit was a seraph."

"Rongrong, our sect's most gifted disciple and Feng Zhi's daughter—how could her innate soul power be anything less? As for Xiaolin, if he were your grandson, perhaps certainty would follow. But now, who can say?" Gu Rong's irritation is evident at the slight toward his cherished grandson.

Chenxin, realizing his misstep, relents with a sigh. "Old Bones, forgive my lapse in judgment. I misspoke."

Gu Rong huffs indignantly, refusing to be mollified.

Observing the exchange between the two old friends, Ning Fengzhi can only shake his head. After so many years, some things never change.

...

Elsewhere, in a side hall of the Qibao Glazed Sect, a peculiar-looking girl with long brown hair and a cyan skirt reclines in the arms of a silver-haired boy of similar age.

"Let's discuss Xiao Yan's self-created soul skill, Buddha's Furious Lotus. The raging fiery energy shattered the entire soul fighting platform to pieces, engulfing Nalan Yanran's figure in flames..." After concluding the chapter detailing Xiao Yan's past life duel with Nalan Yanran at the Yunlan Sect, the boy let out a lazy yawn. "Rong Rong, the story's done. Can you go back to sleep?"

"Aww, Gu Lin, you're heartless! You've already slept in the same bed with me, and now you want to kick me out..." Ning Rongrong, the spirited witch of the Qibao Glazed Sect, pouted, her eyes slightly red.

Gu Lin averted his gaze. He saw through her act. Did she really think he couldn't tell?

"Fine, fine. I'll head back," he acquiesced. "Dad's probably worried I won't want to sleep with him, but you're the one who's actually bothered by it?"

Ning Rongrong snorted, pulling up the quilt with her petite hands before darting out, as lively as a fairy.

"Oh, by the way, Gu Lin. Tomorrow's the martial soul awakening ceremony. Want to compete to see who has the stronger soul power?" Halfway out the door, Ning Rongrong suddenly turned back to Gu Lin.

"Not interested. Besides, comparing our powers wouldn't be fair, because I'm obviously taller than you," Gu Lin dismissed lazily, uninterested in engaging in such childish competition.

Ning Rongrong's face flushed with anger. Pointing at Gu Lin, who lay with Zhang Xiang on his back, she found herself speechless.

"Gu Lin, just wait until tomorrow! I'll definitely surpass you in mastering medicine!" With a final kick of frustration, Ning Rongrong stormed out of Gu Lin's room.

Gu Lin curled his lips in annoyance. "You're just a little brat. If I weren't afraid of getting a beating, do you think I'd ignore you?"

Despite the daily routine, life at the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile School with Ning Rongrong wasn't so bad. Perhaps it was a promising start for someone like Gao Fushuai. However, becoming the protagonist in such a setting was generally difficult. Would he have to relinquish his role as the time-traveling protagonist to Tang San?

Pushing aside these thoughts, Gu Lin closed the quilt. "Forget it, I'll ponder other matters after awakening my martial spirit tomorrow. After all, being the grandson of the Bone Douluo, my martial spirit is probably an original one."

Or so he hoped.
