Chapter 7: 007 Silver

The otherworldly roar was getting louder and louder as I got closer.

From the direction I was running in, only a massive shadow could be seen. Blocking the moonlight, the surrounding area had grown significantly darker.

HEEEEELLLLLPPPP! AAANNYYONNNEEE!!

There was that scream again. It sounded female and more desperate than before. The situation clearly must be getting worse by the second. After running for so long the high grass of the plains had started to dissipate and I found myself at the edge of the plains next to scattered trees signifying that the entrance to the Forest of Luna was near by. I was right underneath the dark shadow but I could not see anyone? Did I pass them up? I decided to shout hoping the they were still alive.

"Where are you!? Scream again, I'm here to hel-"

BAAAMM!

I found myself being slammed to the ground with an anonymous hand covering my mouth. Reacting to the new situation I rolled over about to summon my sword when I paid attention to the figure. A female elf. Wounded all over, her chestnut hair a mess. Fear dancing across her green eyes. Tattered leather armor everywhere and a small empty sheath at her waist. She covered my mouth with one hand and covered hers with one finger signaling me to be quiet. I nodded that I understood and she removed her hand away. She motioned for me to follow and she dove into the ground behind a group of bushes.

Following quickly, I found myself in what appeared to be a small man made hole in the ground. Once my eyes got better adjusted to the darkness I noticed half a dozen bodies laying on the ground with none of them breathing.

Finding the elf that brought me here I asked in hushed tones.

"What is going on? "

With a guilt ridden face she answered.

"My party and I got a tip that there was a cave full of riches here on the first floor that's been undiscovered. Since we need money to progress further into the higher floors we decided to check it out. We looked all over the plains for two whole weeks and found nothing when Archie our scout, found a strange rock formation on the ground. He moved a stone to get a better look and then the ground opened up and a massive dragon flew out! We were no match for it!"

The Elf struggled to continue as she was fully crying now.

"It overwhelmed us as took us out one by one. All the party members died protecting me so that I could escape, but I couldn't leave their bodies here. Not after what we have been through! Not after their sacrifice!"

Choking on tears the elf made it through her tale. Something she said though didn't make sense I thought.

She said they needed money to get to the higher floors? What is that about?

Louder sobs broke me out of my thoughts and I realized I need to attend to her before we can progress.

"Hey it's going to be ok, alright?"

I placed my hand atop her head to comfort her. She looked up at me with a giant pair of green round eyes, full of tears she was failing to hold back.

"We are going to get through this. Don't cry any more. We will get through this."

Smiling I continued to pat her head and it seemed to be working. She was catching her breath and the tears pooled at her eyes were beginning to dry.

"Before we continue we should probably introduce ourselves, I'm -"

Quickly thinking of an alias I looked at her and gave her a reassuring smile as I lied.

"I'm Silver, what's your name?"

A smile appeared on her face. One could almost say she finally appeared to be at peace. With some faith restored the elf spoke.

"It's Ventus but everyone usually calls me Ven for short."

"I like Ventus. It's a nice name. Wind right? I mean it means wind if I remember correctly?

A shocked look flew across Ventus' face.

"How did you know? Do you know of my people? Have you visited my village before?"

Damn she caught me off guard. I mean I have visited Sulpa before. The Village of Elves on the 20th floor but explaining everything to her is an unnecessary headache.

"Umm I knew someone who was well acquainted with the people and he taught me some things every time I would visit him."

"What a wonderful person. To share the knowledge and history of my people."

Happiness was blooming within Ven, causing her to finally cheer up however, one look at all the bodies around us was quickly changing the little progress I had made. Quickly I refocused the subject to the task at hand.

"Ok Ven, I have a lot of questions but for now I'm only going to ask a few. We have a nasty monster to deal with and I'm going to need your help, got it?"

"Yes." Ven nodded.

"How strong was the dragon that came out and where is it? Coming here I couldn't see it at all."

"The dragon was quite strong. My party an-"

A streak of pain flew across Ventus' face. Shaking her head of the pain she continued.

"My party and I have cleared the 30th floor and even still we were no match for it."

"Hmm."

If it's stronger than players who beat the 30th floor, am I going to be strong enough to take it out?

I only have armor and a sword. While I have mana I don't have any spells to use yet. This may be difficult.

Dragons are known as existences of supreme power and absolute magical authority. Pride filled creatures that refuse the lesser. However, that pride is their downfall. It always is.

A malicious smile was starting to spread across my face as I concocted my plan. I have enough power right now to comfortably beat up to floor 45. Not to mention that I have SB with me to protect me from status de buffs. SB who I had completely forgotten about was what I assume sleeping on top of my head. Letting out soft bloops with each breath.

I looked towards Ven who was eyeing me intensely.

"I believe I have a plan to take it out but I just have one question, why can't I see the dragon?"

Looking at me she answered.

"It can camouflage itself, but don't worry. I am a really strong magician. That's how I made this underground space. I can cast detection magic on you to be able to see it. Before that however, what is your class? I don't see any weapons on you, are you a magician too?"

Smiling I extended my hand and summoned forth

Death's Favor. The extremely long one handed weapon appeared in my hand. It's menacing aura slowly filled the space we were in, filling the area with fear and dread.

Taking several steps back Ven broke out in a cold sweat upon seeing the weapon and feeling it's aura.

With another look at the weapon I began thinking to myself. This wasn't there before, the aura. It had a slight one but not anything this noticeable or powerful. I wonder if it's because of all the Afos I killed earlier that it became stronger? If that's the case I wonder what it's like at full power?

Looking at Ventus, I spoke with confidence.

"I'm a Magical Swordsman."
