Chapter 9: Chapter 8

A/N - 1412 words

Why is he here?

Grais thought as she jumped off the balcony running off as a bar stool crashed just behind her as things had gone haywire from the very start.

"Where do you think you are going?" She looked back to see Kenric running after her.

As the Hanged man was thrown into chaos,

"Oi take your fights outside," Croff shouted as Grais gritted her teeth, she twisted her body as she channelled her mana and launched fireballs at Kenric who jumped to the side dodging them,

"An apostate!!" some people shouted as Kenric closed in on her.

How the hell did he even survive, the underground? she thought as she jumped off casting haste, as her own speed increased.

Kenric didn't hesitate as he threw his sword straight at the woman.

clang~

but a loud ringing noise occurred as it was blocked by another sword.

"I didn't think we would meet here." Kenric heard a voice as he stared at a grey-haired boy around his own age, but Kenric didn't stop as he launched his attack.

The boy blocked the attack but he was lifted off his feet and thrown out of the front door of the inn, Grais rushed after the teen catching and preventing him from crashing into the shop on the other side of the street.

Kenric picked up his second sword that had been deflected Kenric stepped through the door looking at the two.

"Honestly speaking I had given up hope of ever getting my share out of you all since it had become so difficult to find you. But who would have thought that you would walk to me on your own two feet? isn't that right Quentin?"

The teen stood up as he removed the Drawen artefact from his wrist as the fade around him began to twist a little.

"Well, seems like you weren't just sitting on your ass for the last five years," Quentin replied with a smile before he turned to aim a fireball at the nearby people.

"Hostage really?" Kenric muttered as Quentin smiled,

"We were bled together, I know you much better than people of your own family would, back off Kenric" He spoke as the fireball in his hand grew.

"Why are you siding with them even after all they did?" Kenric spoke as Quentin smiled.

"They are correct Kenric, sure their methods may have been crude and outright inhumane but even you know how exploited we were at the circle being used as labour for those at the top just because they were able to twist Andraste's words for their own purpose. "

Kenric's grip tightened as he glared at Grais who was standing behind Quentin.

He looked at the people around then at his old friend that he had made in that dark place.

If they were to fight the people around would get caught in it and facing two powerful mages would be more than just being difficult.

"Fuck off before I change my mind" Kenric muttered as Quentin smirked as he retracted the fireball before grabbing Grais's hand.

"Haste" he muttered before disappearing off jumping over a few buildings.

Kenric looked inside finding some fires that had started due to Grais' attacks mother fucking bitch couldn't even put out the fires before going.

He sighed sheathing his swords as he could hear the loud clanks of armour that were rushing in this direction, might as well help out putting out the fire and paying for the damage caused.

"I want to look at it" Kenric spoke looking at his mother who sighed.

"Why have you started getting so interested in Magic," Reha spoke while William just smiled I looked at his son, whose interest in magic had just spiked recently.

But oh well, this wasn't something hard for them to do.

"Alright I will allow you to have a tour but then you will be focusing on your swordsmanship for the next month" William spoke as he saw Kenric nodding his head as he gave in.

"Fine I will talk to the people here but don't be so sure" William spoke as the carriage made its way towards Kirkwall.

and a few hours later

"Welcome to the circle of Kirkwall, young Trevelyan" The old man greeted a curious Kenric who smiled at the mage.

"Behave yourself in there Kenric, and obey Julian's instructions alright. We will be with the Viscount" Reha spoke as she looked at the butler who also served as a bodyguard standing beside Kenric. Julian had been in service to the Trevelyans for years and was trustworthy so Reha didn't hesitate leaving Kenric under his care.

"William it seems you have grown soft after having kids eh?" Guylian spoke as William looked at him.

"Do you wish to be punched Guylian?"

"Nope, I would rather avoid that" He spoke looking at the Old Templar that stood near the gates of the circle.

"Good, Though I didn't think my daughter would be so hell-bent on becoming a Templar."

"Well, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree."

They both talked as the enchanter led Kenric inside the circle tower with Julian being close behind.

It had been the first time that he had actually seen the inside of another circle except for the Ostwick circle where he had become a frequent visitor.

"Wait, you actually enchant items like these?" Kenric asked looking at the pendant that the mage was working on making him confused before he smiled at the kid,

"Well yes, this one actually gives you protection against fire you know" the mage answered as the Enchanter stood back enjoying the sight of a curious child walking around asking questions about this and that in the workshop.

"At times like these, he actually starts acting like a 10-year-old." Julian smiled seeing Kenric as the enchanter raised his eyebrows.

"Everybody has a childlike side to them that is often suppressed to stay in line with the norms, It is for the best if he can express himself before his duties catch up to him." the enchanter spoke as Julian nodded both men had led a long life, so they had a level of understanding with each other.

"Alright, Sir let's move to the next floor!" Kenric hurried over as the enchanter raised an eyebrow.

"You sure you don't want to look at the other things here?"

"No, I only have one hour and four floors to cover, so I will miss out on other things if I stay here too long" Kenric replied as the enchanter ruffled his hair.

"Fine then, let's go shall we," he spoke as Kenric readjusted his hair.

"This is the perfect time to strike, the templars are all distracted!" Grais hissed as she stared at the man standing in front of her, looked at the Harrowing that had been decided to take place,

"It seems they think that a senior mage and templars would be able to handle a Harrowing, they are too overconfident it seems" The man spoke as the lyrium mark on his neck glowed lightly.

Luca Sualsk, the leader of the eye of Andraste stood in the shadows of the circle tower in an area that was mostly used for the young kids that had been taken into the circle.

"Such younglings, getting their potential wasted in such a dump...haa..Andraste what has time come to." He muttered looking at Grais as his weak body shook.

"I am getting old, and will likely die soon, it will be up to you and the younger ones to lead the generations to come." He spoke as Grais nodded.

'I will do it to the best of my abilities"

"I know you will" Luca spoke as his eyes sharpened up.

"Launch it"

"Understood" Grais nodded as she launched a fireball in the sky that popped off the people around looked at the sky curious as to which idiot fired a spell into the air, but then there were the explosions that rang out throughout the city as smoke rose through the air and people panicked as Grais moved alongside the members of the eye that were present inside the tower that began to have explosions of it's own ring out.

As the howls of the Demon rang through the upper floors of the circle where the harrowing took place.

"Let's get moving Garis" Luca spoke as both of them smiled moving towards the tower.
