Chapter 8: Goten Vs Trunks: The Next Generation
Later on in the tournament, Vegeta makes it to the finals and Goku makes it to the semi finals, due to their opponents forfeiting the match. Next match will be Goten vs Trunks to see who will be Goku's opponent in the semi finals.
"Woah, Goten vs Trunks? Crazy." Krillin says from the stands.
"I know. No doubt those two are going to give it their all." Yamcha says.
Both Piccolo and Roshi watch in anticipation of this match, wanting to see what the new generation has to offer.
Chichi and Bulma start to cheer for their sons
"Alright Trunks! You're amazing!" Bulma yells.
"You can do it, Goten! Try your best, sweetheart!" Chichi yells.
Meanwhile the two bestfriends stand face to face with each other in the ring, both with eager smiles on their faces.
"You know I'm gonna win, right?" Trunks asks.
Goten chuckles a little.
"I wouldn't be so sure." He replies.
The two then share a fist bump, similar to Goku and Krillin, and jump back from each other.
"Finally, a fight I don't know the winner of yet." Krillin jokingly says while holding Marron.
Goku has a big grin on his face in the back.
"Oh boy, I can't wait to see this fight." Goku says.
Vegeta then stands beside Goku, interested in the fight as well.
"I wonder who's going to win?" Vidal asks.
"Obviously my baby boy." Both Chichi and Bulma say at the same time.
When they realize what the other has said, both mothers get upset with each other.
"Your baby boy!" They both yell at each other.
Both Goten and Trunks take fighting stances similar to their fathers when they first fought each other, causing Goku and Vegeta to react.
"That looks familiar, huh Vegeta?" Goku says.
Vegeta just smirks, pleasantly surprised that his son was able to mimic him.
"Just so you know, I'm not holding anything back." Trunks says with a smile.
"Yeah, I'm planning on going all out too."
The two stare each other down, both eager to start the fight.
"Let the match! Begin!" The Announcer says.
In a blink of an eye, Goten and Trunks charge at each other with great speed, clashing with punches of their own. The two struggle to push each other back for a moment, then the two start throwing strikes at each other with great speed, both able to either block or dodge. Trunks throws a kick, but Goten ducks it and lands a punch right to Trunks face. Trunks quickly recovers and lands a punch of his own in Gotens jaw.
He then follows up with a kick to Gotens side, but Goten catches his leg with a smile. He then spins Trunks around and throws him across the ring, towards the outside. Trunks quickly stops himself and flies up in the air, Goten quickly follows and the two fight in the air, throwing fast paced strikes at each other again, amazing the crowd.
"Wow. Those boys are really going at it." A woman says.
"Yeah, no kidding. And are they- flying?" A man adds.
Meanwhile, Hercule is in the corner panicking.
"Oh no! What am I gonna do?!" He asks himself.
Both Chichi and Bulma cheer for their sons, while at the same time arguing with each other. Bulla is impressed by both Goten and even Trunks, surprised that her cocky older brother is actually a decent fighter.
"Wow, they're really amazing." Bulla says.
Goten and Trunks both land in the ring and charge at each other again, landing duel punches into each others face at the same time. Both young fighters are pushed back from the punch, but they still hold their fighting stance. As the two stand across from each other, they continue to smile, having fun with this fight.
The crowd are silent for a moment, unable to believe what they just saw. They soon then erupt with cheers for Goten and Trunks equally.
Meanwhile Goten thinks back to when he and Trunks were kids sparing with each other. Goten is on the ground, holding his head as tears form in his eyes and Trunks stands over him victorious.
"No fair, how come you always win?" Goten asks.
Trunks smiles arrogantly.
"I can't help it if I was born awesome. I mean, my dad is the prince of the Saiyan's afterall. It only makes sense why you'll never beat me." Trunks says.
Almost instantly, Goten wipes away his tears and chuckles.
"Well, I'll keep getting stronger, and stronger, until I win." Goten says.
Trunks laughs.
"Whatever, Goten, it doesn't matter how strong you get, you'll never beat me." Trunks says.
Goten snaps back to present day, clenching his fist.
"Today is going to be different. Today's the day that I finally win." Goten thinks to himself.
Trunks smirks at his friend.
"Hey! Are you just gonna stand there staring at me or what?" He asks.
Goten smirks back at him.
"Funny, I was about to ask you the samething."
At that moment the two vanish out of the ring, surprising the normal audience members.
"Huh? They just disappeared." A man says.
After a few seconds, shockwaves are felt from the ring. Goten and Trunks take their fight to a new level, growing more intense with each strike thrown. As Goten jumps back Trunks flies right at him with a punch. Goten quickly blocks it but gets pushed back towards the edge of the ring. Trunks then lands a punch to the side of Gotens head and then repeatedly throws jabs to his face. After a dozen jabs, Trunks goes for a right cross, but Goten ducks down to the ground and kicks Trunks into the air.
Goten flips to his feet and flies straight up at Trunks. As he makes it to him, Trunks quickly recovers and punches Goten, knocking him back down to the ring. Goten quickly recovers, breaking his fall before impact. Appears behind him, but before he can even attack Goten kicks him in the face. Trunks gets frustrated throws a punch but Goten dodges it and lands a punch of his own. Goten goes for a roundhouse but Trunks avoids it by flying up in the air.
As Goten flies after him, Trunks charges up multiple ki blasts.
"Take this!" He yells.
He fires four ki blasts but Goten maneuvers around them and throws a punch that Trunks is able to block. Trunks then throws a punch of his own, but Goten blocks as well. The two trade blows with each other for a few more moments. Goten then lands a powerful punch that sends Trunks crashing to the ring. Goten doesn't give Trunks a chance to breathe as he flies back at him. At that moment Trunks gets back to his feet and fires multiple ki blasts at Goten again. Unable to dodge this time, Goten blocks them, taking them head on.
Goten immediately bursts out of the smoke and charges at Trunks, landing a devastating gut punch that stuns Trunks, dropping him to a knee. Trunks struggles to catch his breath, then he looks up at Goten in confusion. In every sparing match they've had together, Trunks won every time. But this fight was different, Trunks is actually having trouble with Goten where as Goten looks like he's barely breaking a sweat.
"What's going on? How is Goten so strong all of a sudden? What kind of training did he do?" Trunks thinks to himself.
A confused and frustrated Trunks slowly gets back to his feet.
"Dads watching... You can't loose infront of him... You won't loose in front of him!"
Trunks throws multiple strikes at Goten, but Goten easily dodges them all.
"Trunks movements are slowing down." Piccolo says.
"Yeah, they are." Gohan agrees.
Trunks continues to throw strikes at Goten but not one of them land.
"I'm gonna win... I'm going to win... I'm going to win!"
After side stepping another punch, Goten lands another gut punch on Trunks, staggering him a bit. Goten then lands a roundhouse kick to Trunks head, causing him to stumble towards the edge of the ring. Trunks can barely stay on his feet as Goten steps infront of him and puts his hand infront of his chest, performing a one inch punch that knocks Trunks out of the ring.
"Trunks is out of bounds! Son Goten is your winner!"
Bulma sighs.
"Oh man." Bulma says.
Chichi cheers.
"Yes! That's my boy!" She yells.
Meanwhile Trunks is on the ground, staring up at the sky.
"I... lost." He says to himself.
Goten soon walks over to his friend and offers his hand.
"Hey, you alright?" Goten asks.
Trunks looks at Goten for a moment then smiles.
"Yeah. Just not used to loosing. Guess I overestimated myself." Trunks says, taking his friends hand.
The two smile as Goten helps Trunks up. While they walk away, the crowd cheers for the two boys. As they make it to the waiting area, they are met by their fathers.
"That was a great fight. You boys did amazing." Goku says, putting his hand on Gotens head, causing him to blush.
Trunks then turns to his father, worried about his reaction. He walks over with his head down.
"I'm- sorry. I...I-"
Vegeta then puts his hands on Trunks shoulders. Trunks is surprised, looking up at Vegeta who smiles at him.
"Good job. My son." Vegeta says.
Trunks is stunned for a moment, soon smiling up at Vegeta with tears in eyes, hugging his father. Vegeta embraces his son, one of the few times he shows his true emotions. Goku and Goten smile at them in the background.
