Chapter 39: Chapter 38

The start, the beginning of the Grand Line, Twin Cape.

Hakai, with the flap of his wings notified the man looking over the lighthouse, Crocus, former member of the Roger Pirates.

As gently as he could, he sat the ship down in the water, and transformed back into his human form.

Currently, since they had a blank log pose that didn't point anywhere, they'd have to wait at the Twin Cape until the log pose registered the magnetic waves of one of 7 islands.

Those 7 islands would lead to other islands, but one thing is sure. They all converge at the end at the entrance of the second half of the Grand Line, The New World.

"Sorry, Hakai," Nojiko said. She felt that she failed as a navigator since she needed Hakai's help to get past Reverse Mountain.

Hakai smiled, giving her a hug. "It's not your fault. You couldn't have known that would happen."

As Hakai was comforting Nojiko, an old man appeared on the ship, staring at Hakai. This old man was Crocus, former doctor of the legendary Roger Pirates.

Having ventured the Grand Line, and conquered it with Roger, Crocus has seen a lot of stuff, and he just thought that Hakai's dragon form was a devil fruit ability, but he couldn't be any more wrong.

"Kid... What's your crew's name?" Crocus asked, startling the girls that didn't notice him.

"Dragon Pirates. Why?"

"Good name. My name is Crocus, do you know anything about the Grand Line?"

Hakai nodded. "I know that there are 7 possible paths in the Grand Line to reach the end, and that we'll have to stay here until our log pose locks onto one of these paths."

Crocus smiled. "Seems you've done your research, kid. You can wait at the lighthouse if you want. I have some food that I don't mind sharing."

The crew happily accepted Crocus's request, dropping their ship anchor and going to his lighthouse.

Time passed as they ate until finally, Hakai noticed that the log pose he bought was now pointing at one direction, and only one direction.

"Thanks for the food, old man, but I think we'll get going now," Hakai said as he stood up.

Crocus laughed. "It's fine. I've kept you for long enough. I hope that whatever you're looking for in the sea, you'll find."

And so Hakai and his crew set off, heading to the direction that their log pose pointed them to.

(AN: Small timeskip here preparing for the big timeskip that's going to happen soon.)

A couple weeks had passed since the crew entered the Grand Line. Their name became even more famous, defeating a group of pirates and they were currently in the kingdom of Alabasta, specifically the city, Rainbase which is where the warlord Crocodile set up base for his criminal organization.

Since this is where Crocodile stayed, Hakai figured that Robin would be here, and this would be the perfect place to recruit her.

Hakai entered the casino where Crocodile stayed and looked around, spreading his observation haki to try to find him.

His haki had improved a lot and he sensed Crocodile's presence underneath the casino.

Hakai looked around and found the entrance to the basement, but found that it was being guarded by a pair of guards.

"Follow me. I've found him," he ordered the girls as he approached the bodyguards.

"Sorry, but no one enters except the staff," one of the bodyguards said.

"Who said I needed your permission?" Hakai let out his conqueror's haki, but made it so it only affected the 2 bodyguards, knocking them out.

Opening the door to the basement, they entered inside. As they walked down the stairs of the basement, a woman met them at the bottom wearing a cowboy hat.

Hakai instantly recognized who this woman was. It was Robin.

"I don't know who you are, but I'm going to have to stop you right here," Robin sajd, crossing her arms as she used her devil fruit ability.

Arms sprouted from their shoulders, grabbing their head.

"Make any move and I'll break your neck. Now answer, what did you come here for?" Robin demanded.

"To defeat Crocodile," Hakai replied.

"Well then it seems you're going to have to die..."

"Wait! Before you so that, why don't you help us?"

Robin raised her eyebrow as she loosened her grip on their heads. "And why should I do that?"

"Because I know that you don't like Crocodile. I also know what you're looking for, the poneglyphs and if you join us, I'll make sure that you find out what happened in the Void Century."

"You... How do you know about the poneglyphs?"

"I can't answer that question, but just know that I know where one of them currently are."

"And where is that?"

"Why should I tell you? You still haven't joined us."

"You're not in the position for making demands. I could snap your neck any second."

"Oh, but I am in the position. I have valuable knowledge and are you really going to take that chance to lose it?"

Robin thought long and hard, thinking about what she should do. From what Hakai was saying, it seemed like he knew what he was talking about, but what if he was lying.

"Fine, I'll join you and your crew, but just know that if I find out you're lying. I won't hesitate to betray you. Now tell me where one of the poneglyphs are."

Hakai smirked as he told her the locations of all the poneglyphs that he could remember. The poneglyph in Alabasta, the poneglyph in Fish-Man Island, and the poneglyph in Skypieia.
