Chapter 3: EPISODE ONE

Jackie, popularly known as blue, was overwhelmed by the numbers of personalities that were present at Ezinne hotel's conference hall for the briefing, to listen to her side of the story; the thousands of reporters present meant little to her after being exposed to them due to her life of posing as Nic, the star. The reporters were only interested in stories they believed would sell, so anywhere you find a good story there you will find them. What had overwhelmed her was the caliber of persons present for the briefing, the likes of the deputy commissioner of police, some top officials of anti-robbery squads,  most of the state government in Nigeria sent their representative or were represented by their deputy's, though Imo state governor was present in person and the rest of them, even ambassador from the organization all over the world, either came in person or sent their delegates or representatives to represent them at the briefing, and many other personalities, as I said earlier there were so many personalities present at the briefing.

Smiling sadly this story must be really important for this caliber of person to be present, plus millions of people watching from all over the world, including her friends and the Reverend she had pleaded with them to let her do this her own, it was her story to tell after all, not theirs.

Blue found herself shaking, but this wasn't her first time speaking to such calibers of persons. She felt naked before them as she walked to the stage and of course, the reporters bombarded her with questions." I promised to give you my account of what had happened with Edwardo Sebastian, not a question and answer reality show." breathe deeply "it is not easy for me to do this, I am begging you don't make it harder for me, to you it is a story, an answer to the questions, the world has been searching for;  to me, it is my life history, it the reason my life would forever be scarred" she pleaded as tears glistened in her eyes, this kept the reporters quiet. Jackie paused for a few seconds to gain a little composure, she had promised her friends she would try to be strong, crying wouldn't make her look strong beside she wasn't during this for their sympathy. "before I go to the reason we're here, I will like to appreciate all the agencies from all over the world who had responded to my distress call and to the agents who had risked their lives to save mine, most importantly those who risk their lives every day, so we all live in peace without fear, you are the heroes of our time, though no amount of thanks can repay you for putting your life on the line over and over again; I pray that God will bless and rewards you all." there was warm applause "I want to thank you all for honoring this impromptu invitation, you have no idea what your presence here means to me, am speechless on how to show my gratitude. Like I said earlier, It's a very long and painful ordeal, something I pray to God each day I can live with." paused as she tried to mentally prepare herself for what seems like a battlefield ahead…

So where does this pathetic story of ours started from, should I just put all the blames on Neil Gill and Edwardo Sebastian. Then wouldn't I simply be lying to myself, they were mere predators looking for preys to devour, who should I pass the blames to then, maybe the society, who speaks without caring if their words hurt enough for a person to wish for death or to commit suicuide, maybe I will also blame the unchecked ambition to be successful, the habit of wanting to achieve one's dreams of been rich or famous or both in a hurry (fast fast), through whatever means that present itself damning the cost, maybe I should also blame ourselves for being the ignorant prey, available to any hungry beast to feed on, it is a fact that most predators would alway seek for the weak prey to feed on, so yes I blame us, for failing prey due to greed and stupidity on our part; or maybe I should also blame how weak and corrupt human laws are, far too weak to protect victims from the rich and powerful culprits, maybe I blame my mom for pushing us away and making Nic believe happiness and love could only be bought my money, that gave birth to uncheck ambition for power, wealth and fame, most importantly I blame myself, I should be there for my twin when she had needed me the most. Though it might be too late to save Nic now, if this story can help to prevent another youth out there from being a victim like Nic was; maybe Nic's death wouldn't have been in vain, and maybe, Just maybe I can be free from this guilt and pain that I feel. So I appeal to our youth watching from all over the world, with this popular Bible verse; there really is a way that seems right to a man but the end of it leads to destruction.

There is nobody in this world as ruthless and cunning as drug cartels, I might even dare to add this saying that the devil himself has a thing or two to learn from them.

The reason I asked to come back to Imo state Nigeria, is because the history of our lives started from this very state….

N.B: I know by now you might have few questions about the characters whose names were mentioned in Blues or Jackie's preamble, hopefully, the next few chapters would clarify you on that. I really hope you have the patience to read them, I also pray you would enjoy the book as much as I did while writing.
