Chapter 16: Four Avatars Part VI

If the Wicked Wolf lost, he had to hope for the best with the card he had in hand…

It seemed like the unlucky guy was left with a little luck. The boss card, Wicked Wolf, had a special ability in which when its HP became lower than 10%, it would launch its ultimate move in exchange with all its HP.

A roar resounded in all directions…

“Shadow Beast!” The system voice stated the Wicked Wolf’s move.

It was so fast that it created an afterimage of itself. The Wicked Wolf then attacked the Treasure Chest Monster with its claws and fangs.

“4,450!”

The Wicked Wolf disappeared after launching its attack. His heart was in his mouth when he saw that. His hand was laid over the only monster card he had left, a 3-star Wild Boar.

Soon, the system voice rang out. Hearing that he heaved a sigh of relief, shook his head, and wiped off sweat. “Fortunately, I don’t need to put my life in the hands of a wild boar.”

Player Tanthai has successfully defeated a 7-star, level 57, Treasure Chest Monster and has received a 7-star Treasure Chest Monster card, 12,101 EXP, 10 Gil. The player has risen to level 36 and is promoted from a Wanderer to a Traveler.

Tan was thrilled to have one more 7-star card, but he had to widen his eyes as the system voice continued its announcement.

Player Tanthai has received an item that the Treasure Chest Monster has been protecting, a 12-star special card, Metamorphosis…

Hearing that, Tan repeated the word. “12-star!” Surprised, he shouted and opened his inventory to check the 12-star card…He then had to frown.

“Can be used only once, disappears after use.” Tan read the last two lines of its description. “Are there cards like this too? Its ability is interesting, but I can’t figure out what to do with it. I’ll save it for an emergency then,” he said to himself and put it in the inventory, not to his deck.

After that, he checked the other card he got.

Treasure Chest Monster (7 stars)¶¶¶¶¶¶¶

----------------

Type: Summon

Race: Object Element: Dark

----------------

- Can be summoned with Normal Summon by using 20 MP.

- When this card is in the Graveyard, you can Special Summon it using 1 MP.

- When it is Special Summoned, it will launch a Dark elemental attack ‘Bloody Genocide’ to one target.

----------------

“Woah…Obviously created to build a combo!” Tan exclaimed as he read the description and thought about the Crystal Lizard cards which he would have to throw away three cards to the graveyard to summon.

He looked at the doors at the two sides when he was done examining the two cards without realizing that…he was promoted from a Wanderer to…a Traveler.

There was a new additional skill he was not aware of…

----------------

Slightly Open…

The skill that required no practice nor consumed any stats was used at the door on the left side as Tan was among most people who went left after encountering an unfamiliar route…

He pushed the door open as gently as he could and sneaked inside the next room…

Relieved…was the right word to describe how he felt.

There was nothing inside the room, only a long, small path leading to the next door. He did not settle on this path as he closed the door and looked at the other door.

“I have to be careful and analyze all the options we have. I can’t choose this path right away,” Tan warned himself. It seemed like he became more mature.

He walked straight to the other door to observe then gently pushed against the door…

….

He could not open it.

Tan frowned as he looked at the white door before pushing it harder. “Kluck!” There was noise…but the door was still shut. The calm and mature guy suddenly vanished, leaving behind the same old Tanthai.

“Uggh!” He shouted as he drop-kicked the metal door. If it had a part similar to a ‘neck,’ he would add a wrestling move called Sleeper Coke too, and his attempt was found to be…

Ineffective…Tan shook his head and returned to the door on the left side. Dispiritedly, he opened the door and walked along the small path leading to the other door. He looked out the window on his left; he appeared to be on top of a snow mountain as he found only white mountain ranges and a storm. Tan started to question the place he was sent to, but there was no one to answer his question. He walked towards the door, and as he was going to open it…he soon felt that his body was falling…

…He had fallen into a trap.

“Ouch!”

Tan let out a scream. He had fallen into a large hallway, which was hundreds of square meters in size, in the basement. He looked at the path he fell and realized that it was too high to climb.

It was no less than a hundred feet.

“Ow…” Tan cried out as he stood up to his feet. There was a faint musty smell in the room.

“Where am I now and how can I go upstairs?” He muttered as he looked around the room. He soon found spiral stairs that might take him upstairs. Tan walked towards the stairs as soon as he found it.

“Ouch!” He cried out once more as he was approaching the stairs. Tan hit something along the way. He stared ahead and found nothing. He frowned and moved slightly forward; that made him sure that something was blocking the way.

“What’s this…?” He reached out his hand and examined the thing that blocked his way. He could feel it but could not see it.

It seemed to be an invisible wall…

“So annoying…How can I walk past this? Don’t tell me that I have to take down a boss like in those old-school games,” he giggled.

The sound of him giggling vanished as a sound rang out…the system voice.

Player Tanthai has fallen into a trap of a basement spider, Sappatula. The door will open once the player defeats the Sappatula.

“Here we go again,” Tan muttered and shook his head. He looked around and found nothing, but the announcement made him sure that the enemy was not too far from him.

Battle Start!

Player Tanthai has encountered a Sappatula, a 7-star, level 59 monster!

Tanthai immediately checked his first seven cards. Today might be his day because his hand was full of good cards.

“Equip!” He activated a 6-star Equip Card, Crystal Armor. He was relieved after putting it on so that he would not be easily killed.

“Summon!” Tan summoned Wicked Wolf.

The boss of the Black Forest, a big wolf who acts as a leader of the Black Wolf pack, has attack power and defense attack five times higher than an ordinary wolf.

- When HP is lower than 10%, Wicked Wolf will launch its ultimate skill ‘Shadow Beast’ to its enemies which causes severe damage.

----------------

He still had plenty of powerful cards in his hand, but he decided not to use them just yet. He was waiting for the right moment as he recalled the fight with Nicki in the practice room.

“542!”

Damage appeared above Tan and the Wicked Wolf as a black spider appeared. Its bloody red eyes were staring at the intruder, while its sharply pointed eight legs were moving about. The spider raised its two front legs and quickly slashed through the air. It landed on the ground causing tremors that sent waves of destruction to all directions.

“Darn it…Hiding in the shadow above my head, that’s why I can’t find you, crappy spider,” Tan said as his hand laid over a card.

“Summon!” Tan immediately used a monster card, but to summon the monster, he had to discard three cards to the Graveyard. Yes…It was the 7-star, Crystal Lizard card.

He dropped three cards, Wild Boar, Black Wolf, and Treasure Chest Monster… As mentioned before, today might be his day.

“Summon!” As the Treasure Chest Monster was discarded to the Graveyard, its special ability was activated. Tan used only 1 MP to summon the 7-star monster. The Treasure Chest Monster emerged and immediately launched its special move to the Sappatula.

“Bloody Genocide!”

The system voice called out its move. Suddenly, a black shadow that gave off a powerful aura emerged and covered the average-sized chest as it violently rushed towards the giant spider.

“451!” “452!”

“449!” “447!”

“456!” “448!”

“448!” “451!”

“451!” “450!”

“445!” “449!”

“444!” “443!”
