Chapter 49: Princess and Day 4 pt 2

Princess of the Phoenix Isles
Ooooh, i cant wait for the games tonight. Daddy says his team is participating tonight. Naturally i had to go give my daddys people encouragment. So here i am running to his team's waiting room.
"Princess please calm down. The events tonight do not start for quite some time." Ms. Narberal is on duty right now but she's always a worry wart.
"Fineee, but hurryyy i wanna get there early!" I feel so full of energy that im bouncing up and down when i suddenly release a torrent of flame from my feet and shoot myself into the ceiling.
"PRINCESS!" exclaimed Gamma as she ran over to me and caught me from falling on the ground. She gives me a once over and only finding a small bit of blood leaking from my nose.
"Im fine Im fine, but lookie i can use flames!" Im so excited that i accidentally set my arm ablaze and the fire roams on my skin. I sit there gazing into my red and slightly golden flames when i feel Gamma's arm jerk back from me.
I look over and my eyes tighten watching the 17 inch burn climbing up her arm. My heart beat fastens as she forces a smile on her face. She's trying to heal it but i can tell it's resisting her magic.
"Princess are you okay? You hit your head pretty hard." She smiles at me and i can feel the wetness in my eyes. I hurt her and even then she's ignoring the pain to prioritize me. This isnt what i wanted.
I lung myself forward and latch onto her as i start crying "IM SORRYYYY" i keep on repeating my sorrow as she clenches me closely. A few minutes later my crying has stopped and she's stroking my hair cooing me softly. Yuri and Aureole had joined us somewhere in the middle and have been standing to the side watching us worriedly for quite sometime.
I look at the maids and notice the burn is gone. Instead of a 17 inch burn theres a soft patch of pink skin dotted by small wet tear trails. I look in at amazement when Yuri starts chuckling.
"You know princess, even your father had troubles with his flames at first." I turn back to Yuri and i look disbelievingly at her. She smiles and simply raises her skirt where theres a 12 inch burn streak going down her leg "The young master was nothing but trouble with his flames. He was always clumsy when trying something new. A simple fireball took him 3 days to succeed with. Control was a completely different issue. He burned most of us that day. He even stopped using his flames for a bit. Eventually he grew out of his fear. He healed us but i requested to keep it. As a reminder of the first time he cried his tears for us."
Sitting there as i digested the story i failed to notice the arms scooping me up and hugging me from behind until it was too late. I struggled in the arms until i realized the familiarity. The warmth.
My father spoke in my ear and said "You know princess, your flames are powerful. It makes me happy my daughter is so strong already."
I cant help but smile at his words instantly cheering me up. "Thank you for not being mad." I say in a slightly guilty voice.
He looks at me and stares straight in my eyes. I unconsciously look away and he just sighs before speaking "Aureole please check to make sure Narberal is okay. Yuri please clear the ceiling and scorch marks." He gave his orders and began walking away with me in tow.
The trip was silent but i wasnt in the mood to speak up. Eventually he brought me to his team's resting room where everyone was lined up and talking to each other.
All eyes shifted to us upon entry snd Merlin spoke first "Oooooh, i see she awoken your flames. Good job Shana may i see them?"
All eyes turn to me and i squeeze my dad's hand. What if i lose control? What if i burn someone again? What if
"Shana here has some control issues, so i think its better if we postpone it" my father says in a weird voice.
"I see" interrupts Adelheid "Shana how would you like to watch the games from here?" I look at my father to see him smiling in approval. I nod my head and Merlin walks over and takes me from my fathers hand. He ruffles my hair and tells me to be on my best behavior and not to interrupt their team.
He leaves and i see its time to begin. The announcers are Yasaka and Sera-nee. They began by hyping up the audience and announcing the contestants. Nico, Rael, Skuld, Ashleen, and Corianna are competing.
The game is a first to fall with 100 platforms that either fall once theyre stepped on or destroyed with magic. No wings or flying spells are allowed.
The competition begins and immediately people are jumping and launching spells left and right. Ashleen is a werewolf so in addition to her magical resistance her actual use of magic is lacking.
She jumps around before finally slashing at Skuld's next platform causing her to miss and fall. I feel excited knowing that my dad's team isnt the first to lose.
"You know Shana" Adelheid started "Everyone has troubles with magic. Even i use to accidentally freeze and shatter things with my glacier flame." I look at her and i start thinking a bit.
"She's right" said Aika, a girl daddy told me to stay away from "In the beginning when i got my magic i used to use it as much as possible. It wasnt until scientists came to Kuoh asking about the weird gravity fluctuations that i realized how much trouble i caused."
Is she an idiot? Of course you cant just play with gravity with no one knowing. No wonder daddy told me to stay away. Chrome goes and tells me how she used to keep her organs using illusions and how many times she'd forget an organ and collaps in the middle of road. Merlin simply bragged how she was born a genius.
I laugh at her attempt but I can see what they're doing. I turn my attention to the last two people on the board since Corianna got dropped.

Rael and Ashleen both ran out of targets but he reached the last safe hold first. She missed and dropped below a second before Rael's platform fell. They were both falling with her set to reach the bottom first.
When she draws a basic fire magic circle which exploded mid-drawing and sent her flying upwards sending her to victory.
I look dumbstruck at how she won but Merlin's chuckles brought me out of my musings, "She has very little magic talent. Any spell matrix she creates explodes midway for her. But she stopped trying yet. She even won with her defective magic. Now the question is, what will you do Shana Hibari, first princess of the Phoenix Isles."
My eyes flicker between fear and determination before i finally settle in my heart. I cant be weak, this is my nation too and ill protect it and its people from bad guys. If Ashleen can win with defective fire magic, then i should..
I look at Merlin and announce my decision. I light a small flame on my fingers and keep it steady from going wild. I concentrate hard until the flame submits. Looking over at Merlin i gaze at her amused face and say "Teach me."
