Chapter 2: DxD Wiki

So, hello there, welcome to the first rant, and our topic today is DxD wiki, and oh boy, if it isn't a weird thing to tackle.

Now, I'd like to start by saying I am actually grateful for all these people who got out of their way to set up the whole thing. They aren't exactly getting paid, probably, not to my knowledge atleast. And they went out of their way to set up this whole affair, which is nice and extremely kind of them.

However, as they have set out to do something this big and influencel for the community, as the fandom wiki is probably the number 1 consulted source for all casual readers and people getting into the series, they all are expected to have a degree of credibility and objectivism in what they are putting, hard checking all that stuff they are posting.

As I have come to notice, that is sadly not the case for some of the content.

Let us start with our first problem, and it is quite the famous one:

> Immense Strength: As a Cadre of the Fallen Angels, Kokabiel can create weapons of light with ease, and likely wields power equivalent to a Satan-Class Devil. This was shown when Kokabiel was able to easily overwhelm the Occult Research Club alone and Azazel stated that at that time Kokabiel was so strong that Issei was incapable of defeating him, no matter how many times he boosted his power with Boosted Gear.

Taken straight out of Kokabiel wiki page, this here is a notorious piece of fanon, circulated so widely it is almost taken for guaranteed as canon.

That is sadly, well not really sadly, not the case. To break down why, let us first say what is the problem: Kokabiel is not Maou-Class, he is nowhere near that class.

Now to some, this may sound obvious, and to others this may sound outrageous. So let us further break this down.

First: How in God's name people even arrived at the conclusion that Kokabiel is Maou-class? Well, I basically tracked down the logic and argument often used for this, and found the source of it all:

> ! I felt the great amount of aura from her with my skin, and an enormous amount of power was created within her hand. An amount that seemed like it wouldn't even leave a single speck of dust. If you were hit by that, the majority of people would perish. But her opponent was…

> "Fuhahaha! Good! That flow of demonic power! The demonic-power I can feel right now is that of an ultimate-class devil. A little bit more then you would reach that of a Maou, Rias Gremory! Looks like you have a talent equal to that of your brother's!"

> The fallen-angel leader laughed as if he was truly enjoying it. His expression was coloured in ecstasy. He was feeling...pleasure for War!

--DxD Volume 3, New Knight & New Rival.

So from this statement, we can see why anyone would reach the conclusion he is basically Satan-class, since he said he blocked an attack that is almost Maou level.

Now, why did I call call this bullshit? Here, let me present you my arguments:

> [Divide!]

> I heard the sound, and the aura around Kokabiel got reduced immediately. Half of the spears of light in the sky also vanished.

> "One of the abilities of my "Divine Dividing". It halves the power of those I touch every 10 seconds. Your power will become my power. You don't have time! If you don't defeat me quickly, you will become so weak that you can't even beat a human."

> …Just like in the legend. The ability of the Sekiryuutei[2] doubles the power of the possessor and can transfer it to others. The ability of the Hakuryuukou[3] takes the power of their opponents and make it theirs. With the remaining wings, Kokabiel tried to go towards the Vanishing-Dragon, Albion. But he couldn't catch him because he wasn't able to keep up with the movements that could be said to be as fast as the speed of light. Then one of the echelons of the fallen-angels who was overwhelming us was being played around with.

> [Divide!]

> "Damn you!"

> He tried to attack Albion with a spear of light and a sword of light, but the Hakuryuukou swung his arm to the side and vaporised them. While Kokabiel was having a hard time fighting, his powers were getting halved.

> [Divide!]

> After a few sounds, Kokabiel's movement fell so low that even I could take him on with ease. Albion sighed.

> "...Already the power of a middle-level fallen-angel, huh. Boring. I thought I could have a bit more fun..." --DxD Volume 3, New Knight & New Rival.

See this? This is Vali beating the shit out off Kokabiel, the supposed Maou class. And what's even funnier? Only after 3 divides, Vali says that Kokabiel is now mid-class level. Do you see the problem? If Kokabiel is Maou-class, this would make Maou class only 8 times stronger than a Mid-class being.

Yeah, Maou-class, the individuals that supposedly can destroy smaller nations in one attack, are only 8 times stronger than a Mid-class being A.K.A. Kiba and Koneko in Volume 1-3, who can barely destroy a building. You can see why this doesn't add up.

Secondly, if Kokabiel is Maou class, then that makes BxB( Balance Breaker) Vali also Maou-class? And if he is, then Juggernaut Drive is what? Transcendent-class? And what about his later Form? Imperio Armor Vali? True DxD Vali? What are they? Ophis lvl?

Not to mention, what about the enemies he faces, Vali BxB got beaten by BxB Issei, is BxB issei now Maou-class? Then that makes Base Sairorg and Base Cao Cao Maou-class too, since they beat him in that form. Not to mention the other characters such as Azazel, Serafall and Micheal, who are a step above this, are they peak Maou-class? How does this work?

You can see the logic starting to fall apart here, so what is going on here? Why isn't this working?

Well the answer to that is actually simple, and it is a somewhat classic in a lot of stories or records: Unreliable narrator.

This here is what happens when the story is told from an Unreliable narrator perspective, often used in stories like Game of Thrones and stuff. It is when the characters that we see the perspective from are lying or in ignorance, so we can't simply take what they say at face value. Case in point, we have another one directly in the passage I gave:

> But he couldn't catch him because he wasn't able to keep up with the movements that could be said to be as fast as the speed of light. Then one of the echelons of the fallen-angels who was overwhelming us was being played around with. --DxD Volume 3, New Knight & New Rival.

This is from the perspective of Kiba, who says that Vali moves at the speed of light. Now, if you use a little bit of logic, you would know that an object suddenly accelerating to the speed of light would simply destroy earth, not to mention the shockwaves, the inertia and Einstein theory of how an object gaining mass the faster it moves.

But let's say Physics aren't a thing in DxD, then we got Vali at Light speed, so let us look at some situations in the novel:

-- In the Romania Vampire Evil Dragon war, Vali took a lot of time to reach team DxD as they needed back up urgently. Do you know how long it takes to cross all of Earth at light speed? Roughly 0.13 seconds. Yeah, this is basically broken. You can see that this too doesn't make sense.

--In the Azazel Cup, Emperio Vali faces Vasca that didn't use an elixir to return to his peak, and is overwhelmed in speed as he couldn't react in time for a punch. Does this make Vasco, a human, faster than light A.K.A. FTL? Lol

You can see that this too, is another instant of Unreliable narrator. This will be a common occurrence in DxD, statements that clash with feats and facts, and I would like you all to take that into account as we progress.

Now, to our next entry:

> Immense Durability: Being an existence with the power of infinity, Ophis' durability borders on the point of near absolute invulnerability as shown when Ophis was stabbed by the True Longinus, an immensely powerful Sacred Gear capable of slaying Gods, and was completely unaffected when Issei stated that Ophis did not even shed blood.

So, this entry is kinda tricky. See, this takes place in Volume 11. And here, they claim that the spear did Jack shit, like it didn't even scratch Ophis. And this actually isn't exactly true, yes the spear did no meaningful damage, but that isn't to say it did nothing, here:

> Ophis still had a spear pierced through her stomach. But there was no blood flowing out from her stomach and she also didn't have any expression of pain on her face! Cao Cao takes out his spear slowly, Ophis' stomach had a hole but there were no traces of blood. --Volume 11 Life 3.

As you can see, the spear in fact made a hole in Ophis stomach, she just regenerated it in an instant. Now this may seem kind of insignificant, but all details matter here if we want to be objectively clear and just using hard facts. Ophis is a regeneration monster, to invulnerable one, she can regenerate shit, not be immune to it.

Next on our entry:

> Stray Devils are Reincarnated Devils who have diverted away from their masters for their own selfish desires. Without their masters to keep their powers in check, they become a great threat if their powers go beyond their control.

This one is absolutely popular, oh my. Although they don't explicitly mention it, this is basically the fanon about Stray Devils mutating because the king isn't there to manage the piece's energy, which cause the Devils to mutate and become beast-like. And that it is a safety mechanism to prevent people from going stray.

To begin with, how in the tarnation did this people even reach this conclusion? Like seriously, how? I have reverse-checked this theory 6 ways to Sunday and couldn't find any reasonable source.

First of all, do you guys actually know how many Strays were ever shown in canon? I'll tell you the amswer: 3, and only 2 of which were ever named in the entire novel: Viser and Kuroka. And yes, I know there is another one is Season 2 ep1, but anime isn't canon material, it is extremely Unreliable and the author himself, Ishibumi denounced its credibility.

Back to the point, only 3 Stray devils were actually mentioned, from which we only got 2 names: Viser and Kuroka. And everyone somehow jumped into this crazy conspiracy theory from one example and ignored the others? Like, hello? Kuroka and the other one there certainly don't seem Mutated.

For those who are in denial or don't know, here we are:

> "Everyone, it's already time. Well, let's go and see the face of the Stray-san."

> With Buchou at the front, we approached the place where Kiba had cornered the opponent.

> At the back of the corridor, a slender-built man wearing a robe kneeled while covering a wound on his shoulder. Kiba didn't take his eyes from him for even an instant as he aimed the tip of his Demonic Sword at the man.

> Buchou took a step forward and asked with a fearless smile.

> "Nice to meet you, Stray Devil-san. Checkmate. Or are you prepared to come at us without giving up?"

> Hearing Buchou's words, the man raised his hands to show that he wouldn't resist.

> "No, I'll surrender. As expected, I have little chance if the opponent is the princess of the Gremory household."

> Heh ─ unexpectedly, he was obedient. I thought he would come at us with everything like a previous Stray Devil, Viser, and be beaten up by us.-- Volume DX6, Life 1, Part 1.

But even then, let's say by the power of plot armor, Kuroka is special and can handle it and whatever. Where did this guys even get this idea from again? Nothing is ever mentioned to even hint at this. Here is the passage about Stray Devils:

> --Stray Devils.

> There's beings that are called as such.

> A Devil who was turned into a Servant Devil of a Devil with a peerage, but betrayed or killed their master. Cases like that rarely occur.

> The power of Devils are enormous. You can't even compare it to the time when you were human.

> So there will be those who choose to use that power for their own self-interests.

> Those Devils leave their master's place and cause destruction elsewhere.

> That's a "Stray Devil". --DxD Volume 1, Life 2, Part 8

See this? Which part of it says that Devils mutate? Or anything of the sort? Like seriously, you can make all claims you want and make things up, but don't pretend your conspiracy theory is canon.

Not convinced yet? Then how about this:

> Every night, a Stray Devil is luring humans to this building to feed on them.

> As such, there was a request from the High-class Devils to hunt them.

> [Since it's escaped to the territory of Rias Gremory, I would like to ask you to eliminate it.]

> Apparently, this is another job Devils have .

> Eating a human… There's evil Devils like that as well...

> No, naturally Devils are like that.

> So the only reason they're quiet is because they abide by the law…

> Yeah, they are Devils after all… --Volume 1, Life 2, Part 8.

Ladies and gentlemen, look at this. Eating humans isn't a stray devil crazy thing, it is in fact just a regular devil thing, just like eating souls, they just don't do it anymore. You have to remember, these are Devils, not humans, they aren't all lovey dovey good guys, no. They really aren't. That is the minority of the devil race.

And for the final point in this argument, how stray devils take weird shapes cause of the non existing wild demonic energy, I would like to introduce you to a simple concept: Did you know that not all devils look human? Or humanoid? That it isn't a strict requirement? It can be a shock I know, it's not like they are a race based on a power of imagination or that they are not humans to begin with.

To give an example, here we go:

Picture Here.

> A silent giant….. The [Rook] Gandoma Balam has a good build. His arms are especially huge down to his fingers. His face is more like a monster than a human.

> "Wasn't Balam a household with a trait of having superhuman strength?-- Volume 10, Life 3, Part 6.

Introducing, Gandoma Balam, and yes, this is how he looks like normally. No sacred gear BTW. He is a half human half noble devil of the Balam clan.

Still not convinced? Well, here is another example:

> "I am Captain Gregg!"

> Shouting from the head of the ship, the person in the pirate costume was…an ugly giant! His face looks like some kind of ugly fish! Judging by the fins that come out of his face and under his hat, he looks like a monkfish? He has an eye patch on his left eye, and he had a cutlass on one of his hand.

> For his Jolly Roger, instead of skull…. Magic circle! Seeing the circle, Kiba muttered.

> "…Forneus."

> Hearing him, Buchou nodded her head.

> "Yes, looking at the Magic Circle, it seems like them. One of the High Class Devils, the House of Forneus."-- Volume DX2, Life 1, Part 3.

Picture Here.

Ignoring Rias at the front, we have the girl with weird ears and the fish dude. Do you know who those are? Let me tell you.

Introducing, the girl with weird ears is Lilitifa Vepar, of the now fallen Vepar clan, who are famous for being mermaids. Yes, only her upper half looks like a human, the down half is a fish tail.

And the fish dude? Well that's Gregg Forneus, from the house of Forneus, one of the remaining 32 active pillars. Yeah, he doesn't look very human does he. That's the point really, Devils aren't necessarily human like or humanoid really, not to mention they are shape-shifting by nature, so yeah that's that.

Well, that is it for this part, there remains other Wiki parts that remain false or incorrect too. While I would like to address them all, I simply won't bother. All in all, this can be taken as a point to say: Wiki isn't 100% reliable, you can't just blindly believe everything in it, that's why i don't like to enter a debate with anyone using Wiki as their source.

Until next time, Adios.
