Chapter 9: Plans for Recruitment
The plane landed on a plot of land with a house. There was an area with a plane on the side along with a black woman working on a Biplane. There was a little black girl in the plane, pretending to fly, making airplane noises.
Nick opened the back hatch and Carol got out, walking over to the woman.
Nick got out of the plane, lighting a cigarette as he said, "C'mon, Goose. Even Flerkins have to piss, right?" Goose looked up at him and meowed. Nick pointed at the grass, Goose looked at the grass before looking at him.
Nick's lips twitched and he said, "Sorry, I don't carry around litterboxes…" Goose meowed at him and Nick shook his head, taking out a flip phone, making a call. He was connected almost immediately, "Boss." Nick exhaled smoke and said "Coulson, what's going on with the Lizard."
Coulson was amazed and said "Boss, apparently these things aren't even on the Periodic table! Mr. Stark said that its composition is amazing, he might even be able to extract some of the chemical compounds from the corpse and create some serums." Nick asked, "Ask him if it's possible to recreate the same shapeshifting from the Skrulls."
Coulson replied, "Will do, Boss. Also, you should know that the alien weapon has been tested by Mr. Stark. He said that he will need some time to reverse engineer the device, but it will be impossible to charge the weapon once it runs out of juice."
Nick frowned slightly and smoked as he thought to himself for a moment before saying, "It's fine. Don't focus too much on working all day… Tell Howard and Maria that they can see Tony every now and then." Coulson was silent for a moment before asking, "Boss, won't that put our entire operation in jeopardy?"
Nick curled his lips before replying, "We're all human, Coulson. Not robots. I'm not a slave driver. Tell Howard to take a break, since his near-death experience, he should have a lot to tell his son. I'm with the Target, situation's sensitive. Apart from that, I want you to set up an area for a population of around 100 or so." Coulson replied, "No problem." Nick explained, "Not far from the lab, but it has to be secluded and secretive."
He paused before asking, "How is Rumlow's situation?" Coulson replied seriously, "Not good, he's been washed 3 times now. If not for Barnes, he would've escaped. Thankfully we took precautionary measures and assured that he was excommunicated from the rest of HYDRA." Nick frowned slightly and said "Klaue?"
Coulson replied, "Different entirely. No rebellious actions have been observed." Nick nodded and said "Detain Rumlow until I get back, call back Klaue and detain him too. I'll deal with it when I get there." Coulson confirmed, "On it, Boss." Nick looked over at Carol walking into Maria's house, saying "That's all, Coulson. Good job."
Coulson replied happily, "Thanks, Boss." before hanging up.
Nick snorted smoke and whistled at Goose, waving his hand as he walked away. Goose chased after him as Nick thought about Howard and Maria… The actual reason he was giving him a break was because Howard and Maria were dying.
They were just too old.
All the stress of working didn't help and Nick didn't want Howard or Tony to have any regrets. This way, it made Tony feel a bit closer to S.H.I.E.L.D in the future. Learning that the Director saved your parents' lives in the past has brownie points.
Nick wanted Tony to be one of his 'War Gods' whatever that was. He was absolutely sure that it was going to be something amazing. He had already planned out his War Gods.
The main Avengers were all candidates, but Nick wanted them to have a bigger impact. Forget about attacks, Nick wanted to make Earth the safest place in the Galaxy. Even a Celestial would have to think twice before invading!
His plan was to have each War God lead a team.
For example, Romanoff would lead a team of spies, Steve would lead a team of agents, Tony would lead a team of robots or scientists, etc. He was thinking about making Deputies for each division.
He could have Clint be Natasha's deputy, Banner be Tony's… As for Steve and Thor… Nick rubbed his chin and looked at his notebook. He was a bit stumped on Thor, but Steve… If the conditions were met, he would like to have Peggy be Steve's Deputy.
Nick tapped on his notebook and exhaled a cloud of smoke.
It was possible.
Very possible.
He closed his notebook and put it back in his jacket, saying mentally "System, can Deputy War Gods be appointed?"
[Sure! But they would have different skill sets depending on their compatibility to the Ward God in charge of them.]
Nick tapped his chin and nodded, I see.
He sat on the porch and scratched Goose's ears as Carol went through flashback city inside Maria's house.
Nick looked around and saw a man walking over with Maria and Monica outside off to the side. Nick sneered and ignored the neighbor, looking at Maria in the distance. He took out his gun and held it in his hand, pinching the cigarette with his fingers.
Carol opened the door and glared at the neighbor, "Nice trick, Talos." The neighbor was baffled, not even knowing who Talos was… He offered to help Maria with her biplane before leaving.
He nodded at Nick, who jutted his chin up at him, acknowledging the neighbor as he left.
