"How…" Arabella and the rest were dumbfounded when they saw the police officers leave without looking at them a second time. 

Neither of them had expected such a turn of events. 

"Now, who is going to tell me what happened here?" Nicolai's cold voice sent shivers down the spines of the people in the crowd. They were just as quiet as they were boisterous a few minutes ago. "I am not a patient man, you see? It will be better if you confess the truth right away. I might go easy on you." 

"Stay away from us," Arabella said to Nicolai. There was a slight tremor in her voice, but she was still trying to be brave. "You cannot hurt us; we live in a society ruled by laws. If you…If you harm us any further, we will sue you," she shouted. 

Nicolai turned to look at the woman who was shouting hysterically; he remarked with a chuckle, "Looks like one bullet wasn't enough."
