Chapter 70: Branch Overseer

The morning after Astur and the other's arrival in Dresuarstein, they are driving to the bank with Lester driving ahead and showing them the way.

Bored, Astur turns on the radio to the Kingdom's News Station.

"Just in with some breaking news, a man from the Floria County chased a group of river crocodiles into town, chasing them into a convenience store with a wood stick in hand. The man was presumably drunk and under the influence of other drugs. Thankfully no one was hurt, the crocs are currently being relocated and the man is facing charges. The man claimed the crocodiles were trespassing on his farm, despite not being a farmer, and when he told them to leave they didn't comply, not like they understood what he wanted to begin with. What do you have to say about this shocking situation, Lector?"

"Floria Man back at it again. For us, stories like this are strange, but for the people of the Floria County, I'm pretty sure this is just another day for them. There was another case not too long ago of a Floria man running from a herd of chickens after antagonising them, and another one where a Floria man shepherd brought his sheep with him to the grocery store. Cases like this are all too common down there."

"Speaking of strange cases, the next thing on our agenda is…"

Turning down the volume of the radio, Astur says, "Really? Dude was chasing the crocs and not the other way around?"

Elizabeth shrugs, "People from Floria are just built differently. They're all a bunch of weirdos," Elizabeth's then smirks, "But I'm sure you'd fit right in."

Seeing the first few headlines after a quick search for 'Floria Man' on her phone, Astur says, "Yeah, seems to be plenty of chaos around there, I would fit right in. The Floria County isn't too far from the Sea of Trees, maybe I should visit at some point."

Elizabeth's expression stiffens as she thinks, "Please just don't bring me…"

"Ah, I just remembered, have any of you seen what's under our house? The island I mean," Ystur asks.

"No," the other three say.

"I found something weird, some kind of ruins maybe. Looked like a temple or shrine. I found it when I was swimming with the otter and fish Oulvgars. There was this big door that blocked the passage through."

"How can something like that be buried under the island? Isn't that a little strange?" Elizabeth asks.

"No, on the contrary, it makes sense once you consider where it is. We all call it a reservoir, but without already knowing it as a reservoir, wouldn't the normal assumption be to call it a lake," Astur says.

"We could ask my father about it, he might know something. He knows a lot of old tales," Kretea says.

"Yeah, but talking with the old man is kinda a pain. It's hard to understand what he says sometimes," Ystur says.

Elizabeth nods, "I know what you mean."

Meanwhile, Astur and Kretea have a look of confusion on their faces.

"I don't have any difficulty speaking with him. If you ask me, he's pretty easy to understand," Astur says.

"Yeah, I don't really get where you two are coming from. Father is pretty easy to talk to."

" Anyways, you said there was a door right, what's it look like?" Astur asks.

"Uhh… it was big. And uhh… large." Ystur says.

"Wel that was certainly helpful," Elizabeth sarcastically says.

"So can I blow it up?" Astur asks.

"NO!" Both Elizabeth and Kretea shout, causing the car to swerve and almost hit a pedestrian.

Astur shakes her head, "You should pay attention to the road, Kretea."

"It's your fault for suggesting something crazy!" Elizabeth yells. "Isn't this place directly beneath our house, what if something collapses!"

"I don't think a regular explosion from a few Blast Balls will cut it, the door looked pretty sturdy. We'll need something bigger," Ystur says.

"How about a nuke?" Astur suggests.

"That might work," Ystur nods.

"WILL YOU TWO KNOCK IT OFF!" Elizabeth shouts, smacking the back of both Astur's and Ystur's heads.

After a not so calm and peaceful discussion, they soon arrive at the bank, ten minutes before noon. Lester walks over to them as Astur and the others step out from the car.

"Why does Miss Elizabeth look so… annoyed?" Lester asks.

"Dunno, probably just that time of the month," Astur shrugs, leading the way into the bank.

Lester turns to Elizabeth who just says she doesn't want to talk about it as they follow Astur.

As they walk in, one of the bank's employees greets them, "Good day, Young Master Dresuar and his companions. What can we help you with today?"

"Good day to you to sir. However, it's not me who has business here today, it's them," Lester says, pointing to Astur's group, "I'm just here as their guide. They've got an appointment with Lisa at noon, but it seems we've arrived a few minutes early."

"I see, then allow me to guide you all to the waiting room upstairs," the bank employee says, bringing the group up to the first floor of the bank. "Miss Anom will be with you shortly," the employee says as he takes his leave.

"So who are we meeting with?" Astur asks.

"Lisa Anom, the person in charge of this branch of the bank. She's a lot like you, very curvaceous, although she isn't as tall as you. She's also one of my ex's. She's..."

As Lester goes into great detail about the fine points of her body, he doesn't notice the door behind him open as a woman who closely matches his description standing behind him with an angry expression. Long curly brown hair, sharp brown eyes, a voluptuous figure, and a pair of rectangular semi-rimless glasses.

"Hey, I think you should turn around," Astur says.

"Huh, why-- oh, uhh, hey Lisa, nice to see you again," Lester says, trying to play it cool and pretend nothing happened.

"Go on, why don't you continue where you left off. My throwing technique is a bit rusty and I could use some practice," Lisa says.

"Well, it was nice seeing you again Lisa. But I have some things to do, so I'll be seeing you all lat-- ah!"

In his attempt to flee, Lester's arm is grabbed by Lisa as she pulls him in close and tosses him over her shoulder, slamming into the floor and knocking him out cold.

"Now that the nuisance is gone, allow me to introduce myself. I'm Lisa Anom, the Overseer of the Dresuarstein Branch of the International Bank of Vopal."

CREATORS' THOUGHTS

It's a bit of a short chapter, but I felt this was a good way to end the chapter. Also, chapter 69, heh.

In unrelated news, hotel internet sucks, but most people already know this. I keep getting randomly disconnected from the wifi, thankfully google docs auto saves so I don't need to worry about losing progress. Back when I was writing God Slayer, I wrote entirely through Webnovel's Inkstone and if I lost power while writing I'd lose a ton of work, so I'm glad I made the switch. This was just a rant since I wanted to fill space.

Have a nice day everyone.
