Chapter 45: Eve-of-the-Dream

Eve looked at Victor's relaxed face and wondered if this was how surgeons felt before an operation. She wasn't going to operate on him in the literal meaning of the word, but her palms were sweaty with anxiety all the same. Everything was ready and prepared, except for her nerves.

Celina and Xia went to take a long walk in the forest in case something goes wrong. Without them, the house was quiet. Victor, to not interrupt the sensitive not-operation, was given a couple of sleeping pills from their medicine stock and put to lie on the only bed in the house. Eve had prepared several versions of the program to install in Victor's core beforehand, and the backup. She only needed to put it in and hope that if something went wrong, it would be fixable.
