Chapter 3: Fetching Death

"W-what a prize!" Evan melted at the reward equivalent to a Rank A quest.

"Yes, this is a special mission given to our party. But, right now, our party needs an adventurer who has the solid physical strength to complete this quest. Are you interested in joining our party? If you are interested in my offer, then I will offer a contract for you." The lean man felt that Evan was tempted by his offer and began to continue his plan.

"What contract?" Evan's eyes couldn't turn away from the reward written on the quest paper. He immediately became a submissive man just by looking at the amount of the prize.

"My party will help you to rank up to Rank E, then you just need to reply by helping us complete this quest, and of course, you will get your reward without any deductions." The lean man offered something Evan couldn't refuse.

Evan imagined that if he only got 10% of the total reward, he would get the equivalent of 80 times the sale of his farm's crops. And, of course, it would cover the losses caused by ferrets and would actually help the economy of his family.

Even though this impromptu offer seemed like a scam, but Evan felt nothing would be harmed if he accepted the request from the lean man. Also, this was the first time he had a party that ignored his curse.

"Y-yes, ...-" When he wanted to agree to a request from the Sinner Brotherhood Party, Ellie shouted to stop Evan's negotiations.

"Stop! Even though I was only away for a while but you guys came to intimidate my friend!" Ellie's scream was entirely echoed in the guild.

"Ah, we don't mean that, Miss Ellie. We're just looking for a tough adventurer to help us complete this quest." The lean man bowed respectfully and held out the quest paper.

"Th-this! Normally a quest like this should have a Rank A difficulty. But why is this quest is only Rank D difficulty? Who is the client?" After checking the authenticity of the quest, Ellie was sure that the client of this quest was a lunatic.

"This is a quest to investigate the old building on the edge of the continent requested by the Kingdom." The lean man gave an explanation.

"From the Kingdom? Evan! You better refuse this foreign party's offer. I feel the awkwardness of the quest." Ellie, who has been a receptionist for a long time, was the first time she had seen such a large reward for a Rank D difficulty quest.

"So the name of this monster ... Ehem, I mean the name of our future valued member is Evan. There will be a lot of people lining up if you refuse it. Think carefully about this, Mr. Evan." The lean man didn't really need to say anymore, because Evan had already eaten the bait. But he needs to convince the annoying receptionist.

"Ellie, this is my chance to earn more money easily. I'm sorry, I'll accept their offer." Evan explained to Ellie that he would take the offer.

"No, Evan! That's too risky!" Even though Ellie was happy because a party invited Evan, her feelings told a different story about the offer.

"I accept your contract." Without hearing Ellie's warning, Evan agreed to the Sinner Brotherhood Party's request.

The lean man smiled broadly. "Right decision, Mr. Evan. You, at this moment, officially become the family of the Sinner Brotherhood Party. My brothers applaud our new brother, Evan!"

The 2 men behind him applauded and warmly complimented Evan.

Ellie didn't know whether the decision to forbid Evan just now was right or wrong. But after seeing Evan's happy face because he made new friends, she felt that her desire to forbid him was because of her selfish desire alone.

After leaving the Branch Guild, the Sinner Brotherhood Party immediately raised Evan's adventurer rank.

Thanks to the help of three rank D adventurer, within half a day, Evan had successfully completed 3 Rank E quests without a hitch. And so that afternoon, Evan was promoted to a Rank E adventurer.

The next day, Evan and the Sinner Brotherhood Party headed for an old building at the southern end of the human continent.

A tower-like structure towered over the barren area, and beast bones were scattered everywhere as if the tower prevented anyone from approaching it.

Horse-drawn carriages only take to the border of the forest and barren areas. They had to walk another 1000 meters to reach the tower whose peak was covered in black clouds with electric sparks.

"Eh, this isn't like an old building. It looks like a dangerous gloomy tower. Were we the first to come to this place?" Evan hesitated a little when he saw the old building from a distance.

"I was also surprised because there is very little information regarding this old building. That's why this quest has such a large reward."

The lean man did not tell him that the old building they wanted was a mysterious labyrinth that appeared a few days ago on the human continent. The less that Evan knew, the higher the possibility that he could manipulate him.

"All right, let's go!" Evan, who didn't want to wait any longer to complete the quest, immediately stepped into the barren land.

"W-wait a minute, brother! Are you all right?" The fat man called out to Evan, who had already stepped far closer to the labyrinth.

"Why are you lingering there? Let's finish the quest immediately." Evan was jumping up and down on the grayish-black ground, telling his friend that he was fine.

The 3 brothers stared at each other before deciding to call Evan back to the fertile land to change the previously laid plans.

"Evan, I just felt that we weren't the only investigators in this old building. So my siblings and I will be waiting for you outside. Remember, your job is only to investigate and collect data about the old building."

"So you mean I'll go alone?"

"Yes, the more parties investigating here, the less the quest reward will be. You don't want this reward to be divided into 10 different parties, right?"

"Di-divided by 10?" Evan becomes excited when not only his party was eyeing the reward. He couldn't allow the reward his to be shared by more people.

"To increase your safety, carry this." The lean man gave him a small bag of potions and some magic tools.

"You prepared it for me? Thank you, big brother." Evan hadn't even used the equipment as long as he was an adventurer, and now he felt like he was a true adventurer.

When Evan was busy checking and preparing with the equipment in his bag. The lean man looked at him in disgust. Many thoughts crossed his mind at that time.

'Tch, how dare this monster to call me big brother. Even though I just wanted him to be a guinea pig to make sure the barren land would absorb his magic energy to dry, but since he managed to survive, it looks like I can use this monster again to get more information about the labyrinth.'

When Evan finished preparing, he looked at the lean man and said with a big smile.

"I'm ready, big brother."

At that moment, the lean man quickly put on a fake smile. He didn't expect that Evan would survive after entering the mysterious labyrinth.

"Now, go, my brother! I'll make sure not a dime of your reward is lost." The lean man spoke as if he was going to do a more challenging job than Evan.

"Yes, thanks, big brother."

When he stepped into the barren ground, he felt excited. His body slowly shivered because he felt the sensation of being a high-level adventurer.

Evan, who only thought about his family, did not know that he had entered the hell area of magic users. All magical living things that entered into the mysterious labyrinth range of mana energy would be forcibly sucked dry. Even the soil and plants died from it.

The closer to the mysterious labyrinth, the less and less the air was blowing, and the unpleasant smell became more substantial. Evan, who was used to farming, didn't think of the scent as a nuisance.

After a while, Evan arrived at a large door with strange carvings in gold. He who didn't know how to open the door other than being pushed, then he tried to open it in a way he knew it.

"H-how heavy! I can't relax here while my brother is struggling to keep other parties from coming here, be open!" The door that initially felt impossible to open slowly began to move and showed how gloomy the contents of the grim building were.

"This gloomy tower certainly has an equally gruesome content." that was what Evan thought about the building before seeing the actual contents of the building.

There was an altar glowing purple with carvings and writing that was impossible for a peasant like Evan to read in an expansive hall. The hall was surrounded by black smoke that gave off a slight electric spark similar to the one at the top of the tower.

Even though Evan was not the owner of the tower, he was angry with the tower builder. He, who had the expectation of a building with 1000 stories, shattered immediately after looking up at the hall ceiling.

A tower was shaped like a volcano with a wide hole at the top about 2000 meters high.

After thinking for a while, Evan began to understand the shape of this strange tower construction. It could be that a monster appears from the top of the tower and shoots a laser blindly at the bottom of the building.

It was inevitable that Evan would die if that happened.
