Chapter 1: Humanity's Successor

2080 CE / AD 2080 - Earth, Home planet of Humanity.

Through Natural Evolution, Nature gave Humanity the ability of complex reasoning, the use of complex language, the ability to solve difficult problems, and introspection, but such a gift soon demonstrated itself not as a blessing but as a curse.

From smalls disputes to fully armed wars, Humanity continued destroying itself and the planet in the process.

It all started 2 years before the present, at 2078 CE / AD 2078 when the Superpower Nations of the planet reached a limit with each other's presence.

The United States of America, Russia, and China, the 3 most powerful nations in the world couldn't contain themselves anymore as they declared war against each other.

At the start, the wars were being fought by the Army and its respective soldiers, but soon, the world saw the start of its end.

Extremely powerful lights surrounded Earth as scorching waves of fire spread rapidly.

Leaving nothing more than destruction in its place, a huge mushroom-like grey cloud appeared on every city of every major nation in the world.

Nuclear Bombs.

No one knew who was the first one that launched them but it didn't matter.

In fact, It didn't matter if you were a child or an adult, male or female, in the end, you became nothing more than a corpse.

But, 'fortunately', a small portion of Humanity survived, and thinking that they survived the doomsday, they celebrated.

Of course, their celebration was short-lived, as a huge wave of radiation corrupted the Earth's Atmosphere.

As the population started to rapidly decline, Humanity was at their near extinction, as the population declined from Billions to a mere 10.

And as the days passed, the already minuscule number declined more and more.

And finally to the last duo of humans, Axel and Angelica Smith, siblings that fought for 2 years together for survival.

Slowly walking in the endless road, covered with endless ashes, the duo walked forward.

Each time their clothes blew in the wind, they knew that the ashes that blew on their faces, their clothes, everything, they were the people of yesterday.

Step by Step, they felt Death coming near more and more.

They couldn't even speak, as the radiation destroyed their vocal cords and disfigured their bodies.

The only thing that made them conscious that the other was alive was hearing their following steps.

There was nothing they could do.

Water, food, even the Sun itself hid behind the massive clouds of ashes.

They knew that they were nothing more than walking corpses.

And so, it happened.

As Angelica's legs' muscles ruptured, forcefully making her knee before the doomsday.

Axel, that was slightly ahead, finally stopped as he heard bones crushing on the hard floor.

Glancing at his sister, Axel saw her holding tight at a wooden cross.

Even if she knew that she would soon die, she still believed in God's mercy.

Even if she knew that Humanity was already lost, she still held the cross in God's name.

But, for Axel, this was nothing more than ridicule itself.

God's Mercy? On who? There was no one alive anymore!

If God existed, would he allow humanity to be destroyed to such a degree? No!

Walking toward his sister, he only kneeled with her and hugged as he knew that he would die soon too.

But, he didn't pray like her or cried for desperation.

He just gritted his teeth in rage.

Angry at himself.

Angry at Humanity.

Angry at God's absence.

'... Why?... If you ever existed... Why didn't you help us...' Axel thought gritting his teeth as he cursed an imaginary God.

After some seconds, Axel felt it.

Angelica's whisperings stopped.

Her heartbeat stopped.

The wooden cross slowly falling to the ground.

At that moment, he knew it.

He was the last one alive.

Various emotions erupted at the same time.

Regret.

Confusion.

Rage.

Sadness.

And finally... Relief.

As Axel held his sister's corpse, he clenched his fists, ready to accept his death.

But Destiny had other plans for Axel Smith.

As rocks on the floor started trembling, the air started to vibrate and the ashes started to blow away, the impossible happened.

A wormhole opened on Earth as something was coming through.

With black strange clothes, a strange being came out holding a cube-shaped Universe.

Ironically, the Aliens Humanity thought didn't exist, arrived soon after their extinction.

"... Look at that. We left Humanity for only 200,000 years and they already killed themselves in boredom." The being said shaking his head sighing.

"... Hm?" Tilting his head, the being saw Axel, in his last breaths.

"... Looks like you're the last one, boy. I don't feel any other living being on this planet." The being said to Axel smiling.

Laughing, the being said, "Look at those animals. They can't even control such small energy such as 'Nuclear' energy."

Pressing one of his long fingers on Axel's forehead, the being smiled as he said, "Let me in, boy. You won't like it if you resist."

As soon as he finished talking, Axel felt it.

He felt as if energy returned to him.

But he wasn't happy.

Because he felt it.

Pain.

Absolute Pain.

He felt like screaming his soul out of his mouth but couldn't do it.

It was as if someone was trying to cut him in half without harming him physically.

As the being closed his eyes, he started to see the events that led to the present.

The wars.

The conflicts.

The destruction.

The struggle for survival.

Everything.

While the Alien being was observing Axel's memories, he forgot something, something extremely important.

Humanity's ability to adapt.

Although the pain was to the point of wanting to kill themselves to make it stop, Axel started to forcefully open his eyes as he saw the strange cube-shaped Universe object that the being was holding.

It was as if something was calling him.

It was as if some kind of Force was making him raise his arms.

Little by little, his hands started to reach the cube-shaped object.

Just as Axel's hands touched the object, the Alien being's eyes fully opened in surprise and confusion.

His connection to the cube was automatically severed. He knew it. And he knew that the human knew it too.

Just as the Alien was about to do something, a strange multicolor light left the cube and enveloped them.

Soon after, there was no trace of anything being there, to begin with.
