Chapter 64: Watchers and cetaetia
Alastair found the first clue in what appeared to be a home of some type with a round bubble like shape made from some kind of white stone. the clue he found was a tome labeled the luminaries tale that when alastair read told him of the name of the first dark one as well as how they were sealed away. alastair immediately recognized the name of the dark one mentioned in the book as the same name as the ominous announcement. 'calasmos huh?' alastair thought before hearing a shout from erik calling the others.
Making his way over alastair saw what erik had called the others for and was amazed at what he saw. there in a semi intact manner was a huge curved wall that was covered in images the seemed to have something to do with the world tree if the large depiction of it in the center was anything to go by. oddly that same image was glowing with a soft golden light that seemed to react with the mark on the back of his left hand. the rest of the party also noticed the reaction between the two and had serious looks on their faces.
"Lad why don't ya give the mark a go at it." rab suggested. alastair nodded and placed his left hand on the image. immediately alastairs mark begins to glow before the glow expands to cover the entire party. alastair feels the space around them shift before settling and the glow fades revealing their location. looking around alastair sees several houses in the same style as the ruins they were just at however this time they were obviously still being used. "welcome" the party hears and each of them turn to focus on the speaker , a four foot tall individual with blue skin and what looks like an antenna on their head.
"We welcome the luminary to our home." the strange looking person says calmly. "you know me?" alastair asked confused. "we have always watched the luminary on their journey , anomalous it was." the person said calmly. "who are you people ?" alastair asked seriously. "we are watchers , come the grand elder will explain better." the person says before starting to walk off. the party followed after the odd person since they very much want to know what is going on and this grand elder person seems to have answers.
The party has to take a strange flying platform which is found docked on the side of the island that the party learned was floating high in the sky disguised as a cloud underneath. alastair was quite impressed with this feat of enchanting since he was aware of how difficult it was to get a group of people in the air for any length of time much less whole islands. the grand elder was an ancient looking purple skinned individual who sat on a raised podium and behind him was another mural like the one that brought the party to this place.
The grand elder needed to be awakened when the party arrived but after that had explained who the watchers were as well as gave a retelling of the true story of the previous luminary. apparently the luminary was betrayed by morcant who was latter called mordegan right before the luminary could permanently kill the dark one and the other companions arrived to late to stop it. the sage serenica then joined together with the watchers to seal calasmos away until the next luminary appeared. after that drustan went off and set up trials for the next luminary before founding the kingdom of dundrasil to defend against the forces of evil.
Serenica returned the sword of light to Yggdrasil before vanishing in search of a way back to her love erdwin. with the defeat of mordegan the conditions for the final battle with calasmos were fulfilled and he was revived. now he waits in his dark domain in the sky that can only be pierced by a mighty force known as cetaetia. the party then learned of a flute used to summon cetaetia that serenica left in arboria before she left on her journey.
As it turned out the twins happened to have this self same flute on their person and alastair was led to one of the locations that cetaetia was able to be summoned. alastair used the flute a soon a pearl white and gold winged whale showed up. the grand elder than said that cetaetia wasn't at full power and that a boost was needed as well as where they need to go in order to find this boost. the boost in question turned out to be a set of armor around cetaetia that had a horn made of light at the face for piercing into calasmos's domain.
