Chapter 5: 5. Dragonborn? What’s That?
Passing a few familia members that were giving the newest and possibly strangest member of their familia an inquisitive look, many wanted to start up conversation but refrained when they saw who was walking with her. "Ignore all the strange looks, they'll get used to you" Riveria tried to comfort the young girl hoping that the girl's confidence won't be hurt by the ignorance of her familia members. "It's fine Riveria, those wanting to be friends can be friends and the ones who want to spread rumours can do it, wanna know why?" She replied with a slight smirk receiving a shake of the head from Riveria and a raised eyebrow, interested in the girl's response, "I have wings and they don't" Marlet responded in a sing song manner. Not able to control herself at the girl's response Riveria struggled to contain her laughter.
Arriving at an empty training ground Marlet went and sat down cross-legged in the middle with Riveria standing behind her in case something went wrong. Focusing on her right hand Marlet willed for the Flames spell to manifest there, and after a few seconds of nothing happening small embers manifested above her open hand. Riveria seeing this was shocked to say the least, 'there was no chant or change in the surrounding mana. It's as though the flames came from her itself." Riveria now fully focused on the hand holding the little ball of embers burning as though lit from a fireplace but not producing any heat. Completely enthralled by the magic before her breaking all the rules since the time of the spirit heroes, she watched the girl lift her hand and release a jet of flames in the direction her hand faced.
Feeling a drain in her mind Marlet cut the the feeling of pouring her magic into her hand. Ons it was done she focused on the same hand wanting it to change to the Frostbite spell and suddenly the flames turned into a tiny, slow moving blizzard. Noticing the change Riveria wanted to march over and examine every little change that took place as well as question the girl on what exactly she was doing but refrained from doing so as not to break her concentration. Seeing the process repeat itself but with a stream of cold Riveria couldn't help but get frightened think how powerful this little girl would become at a higher level. Seeing the swirling snow shift into little sparks this time Riveria was almost ready to flip a table, figuratively of course, and could only clench her jaw seeing a stream of lightning reach out before the girl, hoping that this was all the surprises in store for her.
"I have two more things I want test out before we can discuss what happened" Marlet said with a smile only to received a forced smile from Riveria in return, "and what do you want to test?" was her only answer. "I'm gonna need a dagger or something sharp from you for the first one and then if you could please stand in front of me with a magic shield for the last one because I don't know how strong it will be" came the girl's shy response. Riveria could only oblige as she handed a spare dagger she kept in case of emergencies. The little sparks in the girl's right hand changed to a golden ethereal glow and she then cut her hand, not deep but enough to draw blood. Riveria was ready to chastise her for her recklessness only to shut her mouth and stare wide eyed at the wound visibly healing when the ethereal golden glow intensified. Once the wound was fully healed not even leaving a scar Riveria was about to ask a lot of questions only for Merlot to fall forward and pass out. 'Mind down, of course. She only got her falna today' Riveria could only lament in her mind. Carrying the girl back to her bed to rest, Riveria was thinking of what she was going to report to her captain and Loki about their newest magical anomaly.
"Three different magics and a self-healing spell. That already puts her amongst the strongest mages in any familia, now it's only about increasing her magic stat and hope she learns how to heal others then we can take her on all our expeditions and save on a lot of costs" came Finn's reply after hearing all about what Marlet had done. "Let's not forget she said she still wanted to test one more thing and asked you to put up your shield for it not knowing it's strength" offhandedly remarked Gareth. Loki seemed to be in a daze hearing all about what her new daughter was capable of, thinking about all the possibilities and increase in strength her familia as a whole had just gained. "Loki-sama, that grin is unbecoming of a goddess" chastised Riveria but internally couldn't blame the goddess for that look. "As soon as we better understand what she can do, I want at least one of you to accompany her into the dungeon. We'll have to register her at the guild but that can be for later, I know your protege is also itching get some excelia and catch up with my Aiz so we can send them together. We can send the three of them together so that Aiz can keep an eye on them in the upper floors and she can also gain experience in safety" concluded Loki with a proud look upon her face. "I agree with Loki, with magic like that we must guide her to be the best possible adventurer that would make a lot of jobs easier for anyone she may team up with" agreed Finn.
At this point Loki excused herself so that her captain could work out the finer details with the other members and went to where Marlet was sleeping hoping to have a little chat again with the girl. Opening the door to Riveria's room she could see the girl who was supposed to be sleeping in her bed sitting cross legged and what seemed to be a meditative state. "Watcha doing?" 'This child is one surprise after another' Loki asked as she entered the room and sat down next to Marlet. Opening her eyes and looking at Loki, Marlet only indicated with a finger over her lips and closed her eyes again. Not sure what to do in such a situation Loki started to look at her wings up close, reaching a hand out to stroke some of the feathers but before that could happen a cup appeared out of nowhere and fell in her lap. Holding the cup with enough force to almost bend it out of shape, Loki looked at the only other person in the room now returning her look with a smirk on her face, "I've been trying to get this right since I woke up, looks like it works" was the only thing she said before Loki jumped at her and repeated that she would never let her leave the familia. "I don't plan on leaving anyway Goddess Loki, but thanks for the reassurance" she chuckled but became serious for the next part, "it's not perfect however, it's like some sort of storage magic but I don't use mind for it" Loki's mind was blown by this revelation and was on her way to kiss the girl but got stoped by her next words. "It seems I can only store a certain amount of objects, which is 5, at the moment. I think?" more a question to herself but Loki was still over the moon. 'Leaving 2 for her personal use if we can get 3 extra supply carts down in the deeper floors they could be a complete game changer!' Loki was now more adamant than ever to never let this girl before her leave her familia. "Loki, I'm sure you've been told about my magic already", only receiving a nod from the goddess, "what was shown was an aspect of it…" and this Marlet began to explain the different schools of capabilities and her assumptions that the more proficiency she got the more spells she would become privy to. She also explained that it wasn't limited to spells only and that she should theoretically be capable with a bow and arrow now and the enchanting process she would have to experiment with. Loki just sat there in stunned silence going over the sheer versatility that this little girl before her brought her, becoming very interested in how the Pickpocket and Haggling would affect things for her familia.
"There is one more thing…" before she could continue though Loki cut her off incredulously, "there's even more!" Only receiving a wry smile and small nod from the girl. Marlet then got to explaining how she was possibly a Dragonborn, what that meant and what she was capable of. "What I want to test however is if these dragon shouts are affected by magic, which is why I wanted Riveria to use a magic shield while I tested out a minor shout on her. Nothing that could cause harm though" Loki looked at the little girl before her and wondered what type of existence sat before her. "Turn around" was Loki's only response in a flat tone of voice. "Why?" Marlet was really confused by Loki's demanding tone, "turn around now so that I can lock up your falna and under no circumstances are you to show it to anyone, ever" Loki said with a dead serious expression on her face. Understanding what she wanted to do and why Marlet didn't hesitate to comply with the given order. As Loki finished up what she wanted to do Riveria came into the room about to ask a few questions. "Let's go and test it out, I wanna see what you're capable of" Loki cut in before Riveria could talk earning a scowl from the woman but the goddess didn't care and only looped one arm through Marlet and the other through Riverias' arms, leading them to the same training ground.
With Marlet and Riveria standing opposite each other, the goddess stood in the middle to the side excited to see what was about to happen. Looking at the elf and nodding her head, prompting her to conjure a shield and prepare for the worst. Then looking at the fey and indicating for her to do whenever she was ready. Marlet looked towards Riveria and thought of using the Unrelenting Force, only to feel a heat build up at the bottom of her throat and move up towards her mouth. When this feeling was caught at the back of her throat Marlet let out in a powerful voice a laud "FUS." Riveria felt a wave of force like a sweeping hand bypass her magic shield and hit her body without any problem whatsoever, shocking the elf to her core and making her stumble 5 steps back. Loki, already having seen what the outcome was went up towards Riveria and asked "well, what do you think?" Riveria wanted to comment that they had a real monster this time but kept her professionalism and only stated what she felt, "anyone level 2 and lower would be flung a few meters back, no question" eliciting only a laugh from the goddess.
As she finished the shout, Marlet could feel a heat go down her throat from the top of her mouth to the pit of her stomach. A few seconds later, a cool sensation followed this same path until she was completely fine again. Understanding that she literally breathed the word like a dragon would and that the cool sensation was the cool-down period, Marlet was very satisfied. Seeing the two women approaching her Marlet came out of her little world and immediately looked at the inquisitive elf already expecting a hailstorm of questions. "What was that? How did you do that? What did you do?…" and this only continued until she tired herself out. Receiving a nod from Loki telling her to explain what happened, Marlet once again explained that she was a Dragonborn and that what she did was speak in the dragon's language. Once she finished, the only question Riveria had left was, "so you're a dragon but not really?"

Super_Surprised231 I do wish to apologise if the character’s names slightly change. I am mainly writing on my phone and sometimes the autocorrect just changes the words. Like I have said I am the one editing my own works and thus can’t catch everything.
