Chapter 6: I AM THE MOTHER OF THE DRAGONS! Or father?

"This is a DRAGON, isn't it?"

Despite shouting loudly with the impact of surprise and curiosity, the wyvern seemed too tired to wake up from its deep slumber, making you feel fortunate.

Is this a dragon? How could it have entered here? It's impossible for it to pass through these narrow corridors. The only logical explanation that comes to my mind is that it must have been trapped here when it was still a hatchling. But why? Why would lizardmen imprison a wyvern here? Moreover, it seems like the lizardmen have been taking care of it for a long time, as if handling tasks such as feeding and cleaning its waste, because the wyvern cannot leave this cave. Why would it be in a room where it can barely stand up? Can wyverns be friends with humans? An idea struck me at that moment.

[Examine]

[Adult Wyvern]

[Wyverns are descendants of the lizardmen, and while they do not harbor any friendship towards their own kind, some female Wyverns may choose lizardmen as mating partners. This choice significantly reduces the likelihood of the offspring becoming Wyverns.]

Just as I suspected, it worked. Having the ability to use this skill not only on objects but also on living beings was comforting. Anyway, this creature is not a dragon; it's a wyvern. I'm not even surprised anymore by such things. So, did the lizardmen imprison a female wyvern here for the continuation of their lineage? Where would they find a young wyvern? Anyway, we have nothing to do with it; we can leave.

I signaled Alpha team that we needed to leave, but at that moment, the wyvern shifted its position, and we saw what it was lying around: dozens of eggs.

Are all these eggs wyverns? No, the probability of that is very low, but even if a few of them are wyverns, it could be dangerous for us. Our village is the nearest source of food for newborn and hungry wyverns. I had no choice but to seize those eggs, but how could I do that?

Relying on my speed stats, I could grab the eggs and run, but it was too risky. I needed to avoid going back and forth multiple times, as it might wake up the wyvern. Then a brilliant plan came to my mind.

"Hey Dagger, take a few goblins with you and gather as many poisonous mushrooms from the village as you can."

Dagger nodded in approval and set out to get the poisonous mushrooms. While he was doing that, I gathered the remaining goblins for the second phase of our plan, collecting some wood and brush. When Dagger and the other goblins returned with the poisonous mushrooms, we stopped collecting more brush and entered the cave with all the materials.

"Okay, Alpha Team, do you remember what I told you? We will spread the mushrooms all around the cave, then cover them with the brush and branches we brought. When I give the signal, we'll ignite all the mushrooms and run to the entrance of the corridor."

Everyone looked at me with determination and zeal; they seemed to understand my plan. We quickly completed the preparations and initiated the operation, spreading mushrooms and branches all over the cave.

"Alright, NOW! BURN THEM ALL!"

I yelled, and the wyvern woke up, but it didn't matter. We successfully managed to ignite all the mushrooms, and now all we had to do was run to the entrance and cover it with the gathered wood. However, you know, plans never go as smoothly as we think.

"Is everyone here? Dagger? Where's Dagger?"

When I looked into the cave, I saw that the wyvern was chasing Dagger. Although the wyvern's movement was restricted, it was faster than Dagger, and eventually, it caught up with him, hitting him with its tail. Dagger, thrown by the impact, hit the wall and stood motionless. I saw the wyvern approaching him. The poisonous fumes from the mushrooms had already started to fill the room, making it extremely dangerous for me to enter. But I couldn't leave Dagger there like that; I had to do something.

I had to make a quick decision. To help Dagger, I had to enter the room, but the poisonous fumes around the wyvern could affect me too. I couldn't leave him there like that. I took a deep breath and moved into the smoke.

The wyvern's attention was focused on Dagger, and I tried to move quietly, hiding in the smoke. When I reached Dagger, he seemed to still be breathing, but he had lost consciousness. I picked him up on my shoulders and tried to quickly exit the room.

However, the wyvern was now focused on me. Its big green eyes met mine, and it started roaring with anger. I tried to move quickly from side to side, attempting to hide in the smoke. When I reached Dagger's side, he still seemed to be breathing, but he had lost consciousness. Carrying him on my shoulders, I quickly tried to leave the room.

But the wyvern was now focused on me. Its large green eyes locked onto mine, and it roared in anger. Quickly darting left and right, trying to hide in the smoke, I reached Dagger's side. When I confirmed that Dagger had made it out safely, I felt relieved. Why did I feel relieved? Did I truly consider them my friends just because I was their leader? We weren't that close, but we had fought and eaten together. Maybe they weren't my friends, but they were my people, and I was the chief of the goblin village. With these thoughts swirling in my mind, I realized that my consciousness was slowly fading. The last thing I remembered was running towards the cave entrance, and then... I passed out.

When I opened my eyes, I was in the healer's tent in our village.

"What happened? Is everyone okay? Where's Dagger?"

The goblin healer approached me with some kind of potion, talking as he did so.

"Everyone is fine. According to what they said, you fainted at the entrance, and the goblins carried you on their shoulders and brought you here. I guess you managed to earn their trust as a leader?"

Despite still being somewhat groggy from the effects of the poison, I felt relieved to hear that everyone was okay.

"Not everyone, though. One of the goblins killed a lizardman, and then we went and killed them all. But that won't bring him back. I'm sorry."

"Hmm, I can understand your sorrow, I suppose. I know that humans are more emotional than us; we goblins also feel sadness, but dying in battle is normal for us. We live our lives this way."

Upon reflection, I realized that monsters were always forced to fight each other and humans. While we saw them as ugly and dangerous creatures, weren't we monsters to them? We would raid their villages, steal their belongings, and kill them just to level up. Maybe the real monsters were us?

"By the way, I noticed that you've become quite eloquent."

"I'm no longer the chief, so I have plenty of time to rest all day. Well, that means I have time to practice, I mean hahaha."

Also, upon waking up, I noticed from the notifications that I had leveled up significantly. Even though the experience points were shared among the Alpha team and me, I had gained 13 levels

and acquired a new skill. But for now, there were more important matters to attend to.

I wanted to check on the others' conditions, but the goblin healer insisted that I was still under the influence of the poison and needed rest. After spending the entire night sleeping, I woke up with the first light of the morning and gathered the Alpha team.

"Let's go and see what happened to that wyvern."

When we reached the cave, I saw that the goblins had sealed the entrance as I had instructed, preventing the poisonous smoke from escaping. We removed the barriers and waited for the smoke inside to disperse. Once inside, we found the wyvern lying motionless. After confirming its death, we felt relieved. According to the goblins, wyvern meat was edible, so I asked one of the goblins in the Alpha team to gather more goblins from the village and transport the wyvern's body.

Even though the scales covering the wyvern's back were tough and impenetrable with their tools, they started by turning it upside down and began cutting into its belly. I believed the scales and bones would be useful for us, so after they carried all the meat, I instructed them to take the remaining parts as well.

"Hmm, Dagger, let's check these eggs."

Dagger and I approached the eggs, and we examined them to see if they were intact. The wyvern had embraced the eggs before it died. It was clear evidence of how much it loved its offspring. Though I felt a bit sad for it, there was nothing we could do.

"Leader, eat eggs?"

"Eat the eggs? No, I have different plans."

We had 14 eggs in front of us—12 light green and 2 dark green. When I used my examination ability on the eggs, I discovered that the light green ones were lizardman eggs, and the dark green ones were wyvern eggs.

"Hmm, Dagger, do monsters fear wyverns?"

"Wyverns strong, dragons strongest! Wyverns strong, dragons strongest!"

I guess I understood what he was trying to say. Wyverns might not be as powerful as dragons, but they were still quite strong and fearsome. I was relieved that we encountered a wyvern that had just given birth and was confined in a small space. If it could fly and breathe fire, or even run freely, it could easily kill us.

"Did lizardmen manage to tame it, right? I think we can do that too."

Dagger looked confused.

"Leader, breading?"

"NO! NO BREADİNG OR ANYTHING!"

I could see the confusion on Dagger's face, but it was necessary to make it clear. Taking the eggs with us, we returned to the village. Using my examination ability, I learned that they would hatch very soon, so I needed to start working on expansion plans before that happened. I decided to expand the village walls, create accommodations for lizardmen and wyverns, and plan where everyone would stay.

For lizardmen and goblins, I decided to arrange tents on the left side. Four goblin tents and two lizardman tents would be placed one after another. On their left side, my tent, the chief's tent, would be located. On the right side, I would place the healer's tent and storage areas. I would put the wyverns' place at the back of my tent. This way, in case of any danger, the most powerful creatures would be close to me. Also, now that we controlled the river, I decided to dig a channel for running water into our village and create fields for cultivation.

I also wanted to build a toilet we could use and a bathing system with river water. All these tasks would be challenging to do alone, so I made Hobgoblin my right-hand man and delegated some of the work to him. I left the planning and arrangements of the new living spaces to him. As for the fields and water systems, I would take care of them myself since I had more knowledge in those areas. Additionally, I had to teach goblins how to plow fields and cultivate crops, so there was a lot of work ahead of us. With all these thoughts occupying my mind, I unexpectedly received a notification.
