Lia jolted awake, body aching from sleeping in an uncomfortable position all night. She thought she had heard someone call her Camellia—Ian, most likely. But as there was no possible way Ian could be here, she assumed she'd dreamt the whole thing.

She opened her eyes slowly, massaging her legs. Dawn trickled through the carriage window, lending the inside a hazy, dim light. Across from her, arms crossed in front of his chest, was a sleeping Claude. It was a surreal sight to see him engulfed in both light and darkness. He shone brighter than the rays that seeped into the carriage. He was beautiful.

She observed him, forgetting all about her uncomfortable position. Frankly, Lia didn't care why Claude was in this particular carriage or why he was sleeping the way he was. What mattered was the fact that he was in front of her.
