Chapter 41: Chapter 41: Ask
Michael and I reached my room. He opened the door for me, waiting for me to enter. As soon as I let go of his hand panic started to set in. What if I asked him to stay? Could he chase away the nightmares again? I couldn't ask him to do this for me. I chewed the inside of my lip keeping the unasked question to myself.
Michael looked down at me. He peered into my room as if there might be an unwanted guest and asked, "What is wrong?". He sensed my unease and I scolded myself for not keeping my thoughts and feeling in check. We are wolves and wolves sense fear especially panic. I looked away as I started to answer but Michael pulled my chin up gently so that I was staring into his eyes. He whispered, "Don't lie". Damn those alpha senses. I kept eye contact and asked, "Will you stay with me tonight?". He looked taken aback by my boldness. He was searching my eyes for... something.
A long pause settled between us before I tried to pull away from his grasp on my chin. I should have kept my mouth closed. I wanted to close the door and hide in my room. I could deal with the nightmares. I could be alone. These couple days did not erase the time I spent alone and running for my life. I didn't need him to chase away my fears. I was being weak.
As I pulled again he held tighter. He must have found what he was looking for in my eyes and understanding now showed on his marred but hansom face. He pulled my body to his and held me to his hard chest. He petted my hair gently. "You want me to protect you?", Michael's words were phrased almost as a statement more then a question. I didn't answer but I wrapped my arms around his sides, holding onto him as if my life depended on it. Why was it that one second I was fine with being alone and the next I never wanted him to let me go? My feelings were chaos.
Michael picked me up from the ground effortlessly and brought me into my room. He sat me on the end of the bed and kneeled down in front of me. He looked at me as he spoke, "I'm going to go get cleaned up and changed. You do the same and I'll be back soon Little Wolf". I reached out to touch his face and said sincerely, "Thank you Michael". He grabbed my hand and kissed the back of it before standing and heading out the door.
