Chapter 57: Family Dinners

The carriage ride was quiet and very, very tense. 

Ace could feel the anxious air all around the compartment and attempted to distract from it by looking outside. 

That did not help much as the skies were dark and they were going through large thickets of trees. 

As he stared at the darkness, something like a figure flashed across his vision. 

There was River standing in the forest, staring at him with an evil gleam in his eyes like he had when he was about to kill him. 

He quickly shook his head to try and get the memory out of his mind. But another one appeared instead. 

The heavy chandelier crashing down on his body and the searing pain that spread throughout his body before everything went numb. 

He heard the screams and the faces that Ajax made every time he died in his stead. That contented smile made his body shiver. 

Subconsciously, he began to try and wrap himself with his arms and the cape he wore as his hands trembled.
