Chapter 9: Abusive Home 4

"But, did they end up killing him?" Mark asked curiously.

Marsai stared at him without saying a word.

"Sorry, I got carried away by the story although I agreed not to say anything till you're done. But, I'm just curious." Mark chuckled.

"You will know about that later. But, I think my Mum was really brave for someone who was caught cheating and planning on how to kill her husband next." Marsai sighed.

"She was really really brave for someone who could do that. She has no shame at all." Mark added.

"I would never be such a mother. I must make sure I don't treat my kids like my Mother did to me. And, I will make sure they don't end up like me." Marsai smiled.

"That's exactly the kind of wife I want." Mark laughed.

Marsai stared at him and he had to pause laughing.

"What are you trying to say? Do you want to marry me?" Marsai asked, staring at him.

Mark got a little carried away by looking at her.

Marsai started laughing before Mark could come back to reality.

"When did I say I wanted to mar-ry you?" Mark stammered.

"I never said you wanted to." Marsai continued laughing.

"Whatever. It feels stuffy here. Why don't we lie on the field so you can continue. I'm really eager to know what happened next." Mark said, opening the car door.

Marsai followed after him.

"The weather outside is so nice." Marsai said, laying down on the field.

"Of course." Mark replied.

"It reminds me of someone." Marsai said with her smiles fading away.

Mark knew very well that she was referring to Martins. He really hates when Marsai brings Martins into their conversation especially when they're alone. Mark kept wishing everyday that they won't end up meeting eventually. Probably, because he loves Marsai. He doesn't even want Marsai to forgive Martins for all the pains and sufferings he inflicted on her.

"That someone must be special for you to remember him/her in every little situation." Mark said.

Marsai paused to look at him. Mark was obviously being Jealous right now.

"Do you know him/her?" Marsai asked, staring at him.

"How will I know if you don't tell me?" Mark sighed.

"We'll talk about him/her later." Marsai sighed looking up at the sky.

"Do you still think of him/her always?" Mark asked curiously with a low tone.

"Why are you so curious to know who he/she is? I promised to tell you about him/her later. Didn't I?" Marsai chuckled.

"Of course you did." Mark replied.

There was a sudden pause for some moment. Marsai tried breaking the silence but the conversation about him/her made the atmosphere become a little bit melancholic. Marsai can't even remember where she stopped in her story. Mark decided to break the silence.

Mark cleared his throat before speaking up.

"I'm just curious. You actually said you were going to tell me how you met Martins and how you fell In love with him. But now, you're telling me about your childhood. Does it lead to Martins? Because if so then it has something to do with-

"No, don't worry. It has nothing to do with you or Martins. I never had someone to talk to about my childhood experience. So, it's like a golden opportunity for me to share it with someone who is a good listener like you." Marsai interrupted.

"It's an honour for me then." Mark chuckled.

"It has nothing to do with you or Martins or even Winter but you would be surprised to find out who it actually has to do with." Marsai gave him a mischievous smile.

"And who could that be?" Mark asked eagerly.

"I won't tell you now. But you would be very surprised to find out who he/she is." Marsai said.

"Must be interesting." Mark chuckled while Marsai continued her story.

My Mother tried everything possible to make sure I move on with her and my step Father; Mr.Stephens. But I refused even my little step brother refused. The craziest part is that Mr.Stephens never for once even one day ask about Stephens. Stephen's never called him Dad. Mr.Stephens always looks for something that will benefit him in one way or the other and no one knows what his planning to do with my Mother.

On one occasion, my Mum tried kidnapping My Step brother and I from where we were attending lessons. We aren't able to pay for school fees, that's why we attend lessons instead.

It was a very cold morning in the streets of Boston. My step brother and I walked down the streets playing with the snow. I actually became fond of him after a few months of hating him. Stephens always made me happy. Especially, when we're together with my Dad.

A flashy black car drove past us with speed. My step brother and I turned to see who is actually driving like that on such a cold day.

"The driver is a reckless driver. Isn't he?" Little Stephens asked, looking at me.

"Of course. No normal person will drive like that on such a cold day." I replied smiling.

"The car looks familiar though."

"What do you mean?" I asked Little Stephens curiously.

"The plate number is actually the same as the car Mr.Stephens always drives. Mum must be planning something." Little Stephens said with fear.

Little Stephens is actually very intelligent. It's usually hard for him to forget something after reading it even after two years. So, I'm not really surprised.

"I wonder what they could be up to this time around." I shuddered.

The car sped past us again and then drove back slowly. We became less interested in whatever the driver was planning to do.

"Hey Little kids, want some sweets.?" a voice asked from behind us.

We turned to see it was. I was surprised to meet this dude after three years of living in hell with him.

His name is Jerry. The guy I hated most in the world then. He's just like his father. They are both paedophiles.

"Paedophile?!" Mark shouted, lifting up his head.

"You promised that you won't talk while I narrate the story but you're interrupting now!" Marsai scolded him.

"This is shocking but don't worry, I won't say a word again." Mark said, laying back down.

"Better for you, because you haven't even heard the worst." Marsai laughed.

Jerry was a nice guy the first time we moved in to live with his family. Their family resided in Mexico but Jerry and his Dad lived in the states together.

Jerry was actually a good friend to me at the beginning but his character changed suddenly. The way he stared at me despite the fact that I was still a minor made me drift away from him completely. I stopped associating with him too. Truly, the apple doesn't fall far from the three because why would a man in his 50's be having an affair with a single mother who is still very young. It wasn't my Mother though.

"No, we don't want your sweets!" I retorted.

"That's so rude of you. You must have thought I had forgotten you. We have a very long history to begin with." Jerry stepped out of the car stroking my hair.

I kicked him as hard as I could. He fell on the floor and screamed in pain. My step brother and I laughed at him.

"Did my Mother send you to kidnap us with sweets?" My step brother and I laughed.

"Using sweets to get our attention. That's really an old format." Little Stephen laughed and I joined him too.

"Marsai, you won't even let me explain myself!" Jerry shouted at us.

"Okay, go on and explain while you're still in pain." My Step brother and I laughed at him.

"I never wanted to do this in the first place, your Mum and your evil step Father forced me to do this." Jerry explained while still on the floor in pain.

"We already know, you don't have to explain." I spat on his face and left with my Step-brother.

I kept wondering why he used the word "Evil step father." Mr.stephens is his biological father anyway. There must be something going on between the both of them but I don't even care.

My Step brother and I arrived home. We ran into our house expecting to meet our Dad first but we didn't see it. We searched everywhere we could to find him but we couldn't. We even went to the bar despite the fact that it was his day off.

"Dad!" I kept screaming with a shaky voice. But no reply.

We even had to ask our neighbours if they happened to see him but they all said they didn't.

My step brother and I decided to wait till evening to see if he could come back but no way. It was already 7:30pm in the evening.

Little Stephens started crying immediately. I sang some lullabies for him to see if he could sleep off but no way.

"Have they killed him?" Little Stephens asked, crying incessantly.

"Who?...Mum? No way! Why would they do such a thing!?" I replied to him stammering.

"It's very obvious you're afraid too. Mum must be the one behind this. I hate her so much." Stephens said, putting his head on my lap.

"I'm no..t afraid."

"You are." Little Stephens said dozing off.

I know very well that my Mum might hate my Dad because of how his business fell but the love they shared when they were together was too strong for her to actually kill him.

I noticed that Little Stephens had fallen asleep and I was happy he finally did. I laid him on his bed and lightened the candle in his room. He doesn't like sleeping in a dark room.

I walked out of the house sitting down in front of the door hoping my Dad could really come back home soon. The rain started falling immediately, which made me a little bit happy and sad at the same time.

It was already 8:30pm, and my Dad was not yet back. I started feeling uncomfortable.

I had to stand in front of the gate for minutes under the rain waiting for him to come back early but no sight of him was found.

I saw the light of a flashy car heading towards my direction. I really wished my Dad was inside the car. Till, I saw my Mum inside the car giving me that evil smirk. Trully, the Devil cometh at night.

She stepped down from her car. I've never seen my Mum dress in such luxurious clothes since I've known her. I won't deny the fact that Mr.Stephens is actually taking good care of her materialistically but no one knows what happens indoors.

"Waiting for you so-called father my dear?" She laughed walking closer to me.

"Mum, I would be happy if you leave this environment right now and here!" I shouted at her.

"You don't need to stress your voice my dear. I don't have much to say to you anyway. Have you considered what I said to you the last time we met?"

"That would be the last thing that will ever cross my mind right now." I replied, making an attempt to leave.

My Mum gave me that mocking laugh. I had to turn to stare at her.

"I always knew your father was incapable of raising you both. Why would a jobless man not be at home by this time of the night. Did you see his clothes in his wardrobe?"

I was shocked to hear this because I noticed that some of his clothes were missing.

"I bet you didn't. Your Dad is gone. He's gone. That's his usual way of leaving and you even know that very well. I don't need to explain this to you. Do I?" My Mum laughed.

Tears filled my eyes waiting for the right time to pour out.

"Has Dad actually left us? After everything we went through?."
