Chapter 4: Finn

Finn woke up in his bedroom. He rolled out of bed and looked down. He was only in his underpants. He stood and walked to the closet and stopped in front of the section labeled "Finn". He pulled his favorite train car pajamas from a pile on the floor and put them on. He looked at himself as he passed the mirror. To Finn, he looked as any 7-year-old child should. To others, he was an adult man with a muscular build and curly brown hair…in red and blue train car pajamas. He was quite the spectacle. While looking at his face in the mirror, he noticed his clock. December 18th. It would be his birthday in two days and then Christmas! With a newfound energy from his excitement, he jumped up and ran to the kitchen. On his way through, he grabbed his teddy bear down from the mantle. He slid to a stop in front of the fridge. As he looked at the notes tapped to the door, he remembered what he was to do. He walked back to the living room and picked up the landline from the geometric end table. He walked back to the fridge and dialed the number written in big letters. A gentle voice answered.

"Hello, Dr. Allen's office. How may I help you?" the woman asked.

"Hi Mrs. Vinny. Can I talk to Dr. Allen please?" Finn asked in a child-like voice.

"Hi Finn darling. I'll put you right through, sweetie. Okay?" Finn waited for the doctor to answer.

"Hello Finn. How are you?" Dr. Allen answered.

"Hi Dr. Allen! I'm awake again! It's my birthday soon and then it's Christmas!" he exclaimed with excitement. Dr. Allen chuckled.

"Is that right? Well, you hang tight at home and I will be there shortly. Okay?" Dr. all said.

"Okay!" Shouted Finn. He hung up and went to put the phone back.

Finn grabbed a banana from the kitchen table and went to sit down on the couch. He flipped through channels, looking for something good to watch. Finally, he picked a show and sat with his bear, eating his breakfast. After about an hour he heard a knock at the door. He walked to the window and looked out; it was Dr. Allen. He opened the door and jumped to hug him. Dr. Allen hugged him back and walked in the door. He sat down and watched T.V. with Finn for a while before getting up to make him some lunch. Finn sat as he waited for lunch and thought about things, like why he couldn't remember things all the time, and where were his parents? After a few minutes, Dr. Allen brought him a sandwich. He sat down beside Finn and started eating his own sandwich.

"Dr. Allen? Where are my parents? How come I've never met them? Do they not want me?" Finn asked?

"No. that's not it at all. I suppose, you deserve to know the truth. You're old enough." Dr. Allen sighed. "Your parents passed away many years ago. You wouldn't remember them." He finished. 'None of them remember their parents.' He thought to himself. Finn didn't say anything, nor did he cry at hearing the news. In a way, he already knew.

"Why can't I remember things, Dr. Allen?" Finn asked after a few moments.

"Finn, you will have to trust me for now. I can't tell you about that yet." Said Dr. Allen. Finn didn't say anything. He laid next to Dr. Allen and watched more T.V. Until dinner came. After the ate, Dr. Allen played some bored games with Finn Until it got dark. After they had cleaned up, Dr. Allen asked Finn all the questions he always asked when he came over. After taking down Finn's answers, Dr. Allen sent him to bed and cleaned up the house and locked the door on his way out. He had spent years caring for Finn and his condition. This was not unusual. But he knew he could not do it forever. He left that night with an idea in his head. An idea that he knew the four of them would not like. Especially Finn.

That night, Finn dreamed of strange people he had never seen before. Each one had the same face and the same green eyes. Then, Finn was there next to them. He looked exactly like they did. Two men. One was dressed plain, he looked exhausted. The other was dressed in black leather and looked so very angry. There was also a woman, though she had the same face as the boys. She had pink hair and all kinds of glitter on her pretty clothes, her face was incredibly sad looking. Then Finn dreamt of himself. He was standing next to the others.

"Four of us. We are you…." They all said in the same voice. Finn woke with a start and bolted upright in bed. He was scared and didn't know what to do. He grabbed his bear and curled into a ball. He hid his head under the blankets and cried. He took solace in knowing Dr. Allen would be back in the morning. He eventually went back to sleep that night but not before he felt safe enough with his bear. He didn't understand what his dream meant or that he was, in fact, looking at himself; in a way. He knew that he was scared and alone. He also knew that, for some reason, he felt he knew the three people from his dream.

Dr. Allen or his assistants showed up every day to care for Finn for the few months that Finn was present. They did their best to hide Dominic's and Ruby's troubling belongings from the sight of the child. They never tried to explain to Finn why he was the way he was. When the other three thought he was old enough, they would reveal themselves to him. Until then, Dr. Allen did his best to provide care and adequate education to Finn. Finn learned quickly that he would not get answers from his caregivers. Eventually he stopped asking people about his parents or his memory. Instead, he spent his time enjoying his childhood, as odd as it may be.
