Chapter 4: 3: Fleeting Hope

I struggled for what seemed to be hours to even stand and take a few steps away from the ocean. If magic existed in this world than I wanted to get as far away as possible. I didn't know where I was or how far I've traveled, but It didn't matter I couldn't ever get far enough away from THEM. Heart hammering away in my chest I continued forward. No matter how dangerous this world may be it would never compare to the hell I've been through and I never want to think or experience that again. I've repressed the memories along with the person I once was.

After wandering around aimlessly for hours I stumbled upon a small village. Though skeptical about it, my hunger spiked once again so I begrudgingly made my way towards it. Upon entering things looked a little too good to be true; kids running around with happy smiles strewn across their small faces. The adults walking around in ignorant bliss, but something didn't sit right with me. All the magical beast around literally a mile off in the forest surrounding this place. There was no way that death wasn't apparent and for them to be this happy seemed wrong. I would expect to hear about death and destruction around the village but instead all i hear is talk about importing goods and prosperity. Like thier lives couldn't be any better, it sent shivers down my spine. No one could ever be happy living in this world. Something deep down told me to not trust anyone I come across, or else I'll suffer the consequences. Reaching an inn I stopped realizing I had no money to even get any food. My stomach growled in protest. Biting my lip I turned on my heal about to leave when the door opened and out stepped a young lady who had a warm smile "Why are you stand out here like a lost pup come in and eat!" She said in a sickeningly sweet voice, trying not to cringe I stood straight and narrowed my eyes at her. "I don't have any money so I'm just gonna try my luck hunting." She gapsed and shook her head in disapproval, "That won't do, there are far too many dangerous magic beast out there. How about this our sales have been going through the roof recently. It'll be on the house." She smiled once more, and ignoring the shadow of doubt that whispered in the back of my mind. Instead I gave into my hunger and followed her inside.

The smell of food hit my nose like a tidal wave, I sat down at the bar as instructed. She ran up to the man behind the counter whispered something in his ear than turned away and made her way into the back to talk to the cook. I glance at the bartender through the corner of my eye. Well build, sword strapped to his broad back. Dark clothes that betrayed his jolly smile as he served someone. Keen eyes that seemed to read everything around him. A dark glint in the green pools of his eyes as he scanned his surroundings. - Wait a dark glint?- Before I had the chance to think further on the subject a steaming plate heaped with beef, potatoes and some king of herb was placed before me. Tears began to sting the back of my eyes, unable to believe just how kind these people were warmed my heart. Mumbling thanks trying not to cry I took the first bite I had in days, I couldn't help but to wolf it down. Even though I was hungry I couldn't help but notice the other customers starring as I tore into the food before me.

My eyes grew wide at the familiar taste of a sleeping herb called lazomongora. It's a magical herb that kicks in within 3 minutes. Pushing the food off the table I tried to shove my fingers down my throat in over to get the food out of my system. Before I could do that a dull pain rang through my head before everything became black. I could feel myself swinging slightly with a extremely cold feeling around my wrist. My keen senses kicked in , feeling cold cobblestone as my toes brushed the ground. The sound of quit of chains clinking together, the stench of blood. The cold stale taste of the air told me I was underground in a cellar. Refusing to open my eyes pretending to be asleep. I couldn't tell if the faint sound of breathing was coming from my captures or not. I want to assume so, after all I'm not hearing sound of anguish. As experienced as I am whether I wanted the experience or not I have plenty that is telling me to not move. keeping my entire body calm and relaxed is much harder than most think, as well as keeping your breathing slow and deep. This is a mental battle I plan on winning, but in order to fool those around you you must fool yourself. "He's still not waking how hard did you hit him?" That's the voice of the inn keeper her voice seemed to teeter between concerned and angry. My guess is she not concerned for my well being but instead she's worried if her new toy is broken. "Not that hard, I think I don't know he was trying throw the food up I had to act quickly. It's hard to believe he actually noticed something off, the herb doesn't have taste or odor." The bartender let out a sigh, before the girl spoke up again. " Alright Jack I'm going back up to manage the inn, you stay here and come get me if he wakes up. Oh and don't touch him please, I know he's your type. I don't want a repeat of last time because you can't keep it in your pants." She said with a huff before her footsteps receded up some stone stairs. Which only confirms my suspension of being in a cellar. Jack began to grumble to himself before he walked up to me. I forced myself not to shiver as a felt his body heat radiating off him. *That's right come just a little bit closer.*

Almost as if he could hear my thoughts he began to lean closer to my face. Opening my eyes I quickly reeling my head back for a wicked headbutt. To stunned to move I made contact knocking him out cold. I then quickly inspected the shackles only for a smile to creep upon my face. Ice magic, well this socks for them I have magic attributes as well. I wrapped my hands around the shackles breathing out slowly as I felt a familiar heat course throughout my body. Filling my veins, until fire magic burst from my hand shattering the shackles. I looked down at the unconscious Jack as I thought to myself that I shouldn't leave any nuisances for later I should take care of him now. That's exactly what I did, in the same process as before, instead of fire I let ice course through me. As I finished making my sickle he began to stir, but It was to late as a heavy thud and cracking stone rung out through the cellar. His head rolled away. That's the 12th time I took someone's life, wvertime I do I feel as if another emotion as felt me. I then turned towards the stairs as I picked up my sickle and made my way up the stairs to finish the job. Hours later I find myself walking away from the carnage I left behind in the village of body's and flames blazed behind me as I made my way further inland. The only emotions I had left were suspension, determination, hatred and rage.

Unbeknownst to me another group has found the carnage I left behind as they came to the village the same way I came in. They looked on shocked at the devastating sight, "Oh my God! Waht the hell happened here Axel?" Axel was as pale as a ghost as he clenched the hilt to his sword. "It looks like the corrupt town finally had a taste of thier own medicine. But to completely wipe out everyone including the children is barbaric. Lane get in touch with the guild and palace, let them know what happened. Sébastien put out these fires so we can collect the corpses. Kai help me search the immediate perimeter." Axel clenched his jaw as he and Kai began searching for any survivers and hopefully the perpetrator. "They need to hurry up and summon the hero or things are only going to get worse from here." Axel let out a heavy sigh when they found nothing. "Let's get this over with and head back home to the guild."
