Chapter 171: Issue #13

Melody saw that their enemies were approaching and looked toward Laura and Anastasia since they had the most combat experience. But when she saw that both of them were ready to pounce and leave the others behind, she gave up on them.

"The boys and Quentin will be the vanguard of the group. Take the heaviest sticks and get ready to break some bones. Aim for the limbs, only attack the head if you're sure you can take them out.

Laura, Ana, Cessily, Felicia, and me will be in the middle. We will support the boys and take down any of the skeletons that get past them or are about to injure them.

Everyone else, you are the rear guard. Your main job is to use the sharpened sticks and rocks to shatter the heads of the skeletons that we have taken down."

Ever since she had signed up to be a member of the X-Men training squads, Melody had studied as best she could in order to support her team. Her powers were originally useless in her eyes so she wanted to make up for her lack of combat potential in order to make sure she was not a liability.

No one objected and they all got into position as Melody had ordered. This was a situation that none of them were prepared for but they also knew that working together on some plan was better than disagreeing and having no plan.

Emma nodded as she saw that Melody had reacted so quickly.

"Darling. Why don't you give me her? You can get 3 new members after Field Day so I'm sure you will replace her," Emma requested, wanting Melody on her team. Not only was the girl powerful but she was also smart

"Not fair, Mum! You already have a diverse team. I have my sisters and another girl who creates psionic armor. I need someone who does use psionic powers on my team and she would be perfect!" Stella immediately rejected

Before the two could argue, Jack interjected

"Who said that I'm giving her up?"

Jack had gotten lucky that Melody was put on his team. If not, he would have trouble trying to make everyone else work as a squad. But since she was there, the efficiency of the team increased vastly.

Stella and Emma frowned when they heard this. Both of them also knew just how valuable someone like Melody was on a team of people that were stubborn. They couldn't give up just because Jack said no once.

So while the teens were fighting with their lives on the line, the Frost mother-daughter pair were trying to convince Jack to hand over one of his squad members.

After a night of constant battle, the teens had come out victorious. Well, not exactly victorious but the endless swarm of skeletons seemed to lose their ability to move when the sun came up.

All of the teens had injuries to various degrees, Julian having the worst which was a deep gash in his arm, but none of them died. But that night had shown them just how serious the Frost Family was when it came to their training.

"Laura and Ana, you both can start treating injuries. Start with Julian and Quentin. Hisako and Sooraya, watch them closely. It will be useful to have more people that can do this. Everyone who is not being taken care of by the medics, start cleaning up camp. We will head down the mountain after everyone rests for a bit," Melody commanded. Everyone had already subconsciously accepted her as their leader so they followed her orders without complaint.

Laura and Anastasia began treating the injured with the spare cloth they had brought with them while Hisako and Sooraya followed close behind. And although they didn't have any medicine to make the injuries heal faster, their clean water was good enough to ensure that none of the members got infected during their winter training.

By the time everyone had gotten bandaged, it was already close to 8 am. Everyone began to rest on the floor, only using their bags as pillows. They wanted to get down the mountain as fast as they could so that they would not have to spend another night training.

Around noon, the group got up from their naps and started making their way down the mountain. Going down was much easier than climbing it. The group was able to reach the base of the mountain in only 3 hours since Laura and Ana left tracks so that they would be able to return by taking the shortest path.

And as they made it to the base, the 18 teens were greeted by the sight of Jack, Emma, Stella, and Rachel standing there, smirking at them.

"Not bad. Looks like my team did the best," Jack said, happy that his team made him proud

"Not all of us can have a teen master hunter and master assassin on our teams. Anyway, if our teams were to battle, I'm sure that we would come out on top," Emma said sourly. She had been unable to convince Jack to give her Melody so she was upset.

"She's right. Plus, my team would dominate your team if it came to a telepathic battle," Stella also retorted, unable to hide her jealousy that Jack had managed to get such amazing students.

'Actually, that's wrong. Dad was given them all because they are problem students. Only he could bring out their potential like this.'

When she noticed that even if she got the kids first they would not be as good as they were under her father, Stella's mood sunk even more.

Rachel smiled at the family, glad that she didn't sign up to become an advisor. She didn't want to have to compete against the trio.

'Game night must be terrible with these 3,' Rachel thought to herself, already coming up with reasons why she would reject any game night they had invited her to.

The students boarded the bus that Jack and Emma had bought for the trip. Surprisingly, Jack and Emma saw a few of their students and daughters sharing a seat when there were so many open seats that everyone could sit by themselves.

Phoebe was sitting with Quentin, Kevin with Melody, and Laura with Julian.

Jack was ready to teleport all of the boys back to the top of the mountain and send a sentinel after them.
