Chapter 18: Chapter 17
Jacob informed Adewale he would provide rifles to two individuals for protection during their scouting missions. His busy schedule left little time for his usual self-doubt.
As he arrived at the storage facility, Jacob noticed a lot of activity coming and going through various doors. He went inside to investigate and saw another metal printer beside the one he had seen before. It looked like someone had used their own points from the store, and Jacob suspected it was Sophia.
She was busy teaching others how to operate the printers, design blueprints, and use them. The large door was open, and Jacob saw some welders putting together parts for a cart under the guidance of John.
He also saw some new colonists who were being punished by performing manual labour for power generation. Most of them looked sweating and depressed, with a guard standing nearby holding a metal baton.
Jacob was surprised to see the violent tool being used to intimidate the new colonists and shook his head.
Since Sophia was occupied, Jacob helped her set up any new solar panels that were being produced by the faster-operating machine. The power being generated by the panels was already having a noticeable effect.
Taking the two that had piled up beside the graphene printer. Jacob looked at Genesis. "Highlight the actions I need to take and tools I have to use, just to make sure I don't mess it up."
"Yes, sir."
With that, he saw the tools he needed to set up the panels. He didn't have to lay any cable to the batteries, as that was already achieved by their work yesterday. What he had to do was head out with both panels in his arms and complete the connection with a shorter amount of cable already laid out for the rest of the solar array. The panels were very lightweight.
Jacob spent 10 minutes setting up the solar panels. Sophia could do it in 1 since she had the knowledge and skills to not have to watch the holo's multiple times to perform an action. As he was finishing, he stood back up, his knees cracking as he did so, having been in an unnatural crouched position for too long.
Genesis suddenly spoke up. "Sir, the group of farmers and nutritionists has sent you a message. They have met in the square."
Jacob had completely forgotten about them. The riot had happened just after he sent the message to organize their food supplies.
"Tell them to meet me in the storage facility." He said as he walked back inside through one of the larger bay doors.
"Yes, Sir."
Jacob then waited for a few moments as a few people shuffled into the building.
Not wasting time once all of them arrived, one spoke up. A south American man, who spoke in Portuguese. "We were talking before we met. I understand the colony is busy. But if you don't want us to starve, here are the seeds you must purchase for a decent diet." His AI showed Jacob a list of seeds from the store they would like to purchase with their names and descriptions first, followed by all the prices.

After taking a few minutes to read them over and think about it, Jacob decided. "Well, we can purchase 2 of each, and see how things grow. Then come to me if we run out or there are issues. Does this work?"
Rodrigo and the others nodded.
"Genesis, let's purchase each one twice, spawn them here."
"Yes, Sir."
A flash of light appeared, and four boxes materialized. Causing the farmers' and nutritionists' eyes to pop out. "Wow, that is cool!" one of them said.
Opening one up, Jacob saw a bunch of small pink seeds sitting inside an air sealed package.
"I'll let you all deal with what is needed next. Any hand tools can be made by the alloy printers over there. However, you may have to wait as the entire colony has orders going still."
Jacob pointed over to the alloy printers as he spoke, which were still pumping away. Having been connected to the main battery supply now. There were more solar panels than the graphene printer needed to keep running at normal efficiency.
Sophia kept the manual labour going, just to keep the charge up for as long as possible. Every little watt counted in her eyes.
"We will get right on it, but don't get too comfy telling us what to do. I am only doing this because I am no idiot, and I would like to eat in my future. My name is Rodrigo." Before giving Jacob a chance to respond, Rodrigo had already begun picking up a crate and then started walking away. The other farmers looked at each other and three of them grabbed the other seeds.
Finally, after dealing with the farmers, Jacob saw Sam coming over.
"Hey, you got them rifles for us, eh?" He asked with a wave.
Jacob smacked his head. "Damn forgot, Genesis purchase and spawn two rifles. As well as 100 rounds."
A flash of blue light appeared beside Sam. A crate containing rifles and a smaller one containing ammunition.
Sam's eyes shone with excitement as he opened the crate and started touching a rifle's barrel. "Thanks Jacob, these guns are top quality!"
"No problem, I just hope you four can be safe…" Jacob said.
However, Sam waved him off as he grabbed a rifle and studied it. Engrossed in learning about the weapon.
