Chapter 6: 6.The Talk

Kevan Lannister POV

I was always loyal to y family. I was a second son and I knew that my my calling was to assist my brother. Tywin was always the best of us and I would always be there to watch his back. This was the reason he was able to perform his duties as a hand without worry knowing that I would be watching his back. People followed Tywin because of fear and respect more of the first than the latter and people would follow his son because of both and ability. The boy was special. He was the heir that Tywin wanted. He was smart from a young age and had always been way ahead his peers.

His wife had given birth to his first born Lancel. The bay was a year old and had just started forming words. Whereas Tyland at the same age had started learning his Houses and history. The boy had asked for an allowance and Joanna had asked me to grant the request. House Lannister was rich even if he wasted it all it would mean nothing yet the boy had started using it to make a network of inns and farms. He thought that we were all unaware of it but the truth was I had known about it for months. Joanna had been extremely proud and considered him a boon to our House. As of right now, his establishments made about 2000 gold dragons a year. which was more than some minor houses. He had asked for a meeting. perhaps he would reveal his involvement with business to surprise me.

Tyland POV

I had asked for a meeting with uncle Kevan. He ruled in father's stead and was extremely loyal to our house. My business was booming. I had started expanding throughout the westernlands. They served as a valuable information trove too and formed a small information network. Because of the uninterrupted success of my ventures I suspected that my family knew about them but I could not confirm it.

I knocked at the door.

"Enter." came the hard voice.

I entered and closed the door. "Greeting Uncle. I hope you are in good health."

He had the faintest of smiles and said," Greetings to you as well Tyland and I am fine. You asked for this meeting to be quite urgent. What may be the issue?"

As always a no nonsense man. I also got straight into the topic." You know that mother is expecting and according to the Maester her health has not bee well. So I thought that I would ask you to Hire some very experinced handmaidens as a precaution."

He was quite and had a calculating gaze. "We already have the best staff available. I will still look into it.Is that all" he asked.

"Yes that would be all." I got up and left through the door.

I loved my mother fiercely. I had already talked to Maester Walrick and asked him to maintain a perfect hygiene. Boiled water clean hands and everything. According to him I could forge a ring in the area of medicine with my knowledge.

I made my way to my mother's chambers. I knocked and entered the room. The child was expected within next month. She was sitting on a chair reading a book. She saw me and smiled : "Ah Tyland. Finally had enough time to visit your mother. In some respects you are just like your father, always forgetting about your mother." She said with faux hurt in her voice.

My body relaxed, I just wanted her to always have that smile. "I am sorry mother. With my sword practice and lessons with Uncle Kevan, time had become quite sparse. How are you feeling these days."

"I am fine. I can just say that this child is quite a fiesty one. Even the twins weren't so active. How are your lessons going."

"They are going fine. Me and Aslan are progressing quite well."

She had a smile on her face, then she said the words that quite shocked me,

"Isn't Aslan the brother of that merchant Daniel from the Sunset merchants.? Why would he want to be knight."

"According to him his brother wants him to gain achievements and become a landed knight. Having a noble's support would be helpful to their business. "I told her the 'official' story. The truth was that he was quite talented and asked me to become my sworn shield. I had asked the Master at Arms and he had started to join the practices with me. We had come up with an 'official' story to hide my connection to the sunset merchants.

Upon hearing my answer, mother smiled and said in a sing song voice,

"Is that so. Isn't the backing of the Heir of Casterly Rock enough political backing."

Upon hearing this I knew that the game was up and had a small smile on my lips.
