As they left the Hokage's office, the air outside seemed lighter, a stark contrast to the tension that had pervaded their debriefing. Hinata exhaled deeply, the stress of the mission dissipating. "That was intense," she admitted, the relief in her voice mirroring the sentiments of her teammates.

Shino, ever the stoic, surprised them. "Celebration?" he suggested, causing Kurenai, Horyu and Hinata to turn towards him in disbelief.

"What?" Shino asked, genuinely puzzled by their reaction.

Hinata's laughter broke the brief silence, her amusement clear. "You usually don't suggest outings," she teased, her eyes sparkling with mirth.

The suggestion of a celebration was a welcome one, a chance to unwind and reflect on their harrowing experience. They decided on a quiet dinner at a local eatery, a place known for its privacy and excellent food.

As they made their way through Konoha's streets, the evening air cool against their skin, Horyu's attention was quickly diverted by the sight of Ino walking towards them. He paused, signaling to his team with a brief gesture. "I won't be able to join. Please excuse me," he announced, his tone apologetic yet firm. Kurenai and Shino gave understanding nods, while Hinata's expression clouded with a hint of displeasure, her gaze lingering on Horyu as he walked away to meet Ino.

Ino, noticing Horyu approaching, felt a flutter of excitement mixed with nervousness. The implications of their potential engagement filled her thoughts, casting a warm blush across her cheeks. Horyu, ever observant, noted her reaction with a faint smirk. "Ino, it's been awhile," he greeted, his voice carrying a casual ease that belied the gravity of their meeting.

Ino nodded, her voice barely above a whisper, "It has." Her eyes briefly met his before darting away, a clear sign of her turmoil.

"Wanna walk?" Horyu's voice cut through the ambient noise of the academy, directed at Ino with a casualness that belied the weight of his intentions. Behind the simplicity of the invitation was a labyrinth of calculations and potential strategies, yet at the forefront of his mind was a principle he held uncharacteristically firm for someone of his pragmatic and often cold demeanor. Quest be damned, Horyu wasn't about to entangle anyone in a web of false romantic pretenses. The idea of exploiting emotions for gain was a line he found himself unwilling to cross, marking a rare boundary in his otherwise flexible moral compass.

His approach to Ino was threaded with this underlying respect for her autonomy. If Ino showed no interest in romantic involvement, Horyu was prepared to let the matter drop without a second thought. Manipulation was a tool he wielded with precision in many areas, but tricking someone into a facade of affection was not a tactic he could stomach. Yet, should Ino reciprocate any hint of interest, Horyu couldn't deny the strategic advantage such an alliance could offer. A union with Ino, genuine in its emotional foundation but leveraged for mutual gain, could open doors neither could alone.

As they strolled through the quieter parts of the village, the ambient sounds of Konoha at dusk surrounded them, providing a soothing backdrop to their conversation. Ino, still struggling with her nerves, kept her gaze fixed ahead, her hands clasped together to still their trembling.

Horyu broke the silence, his voice steady, "I know this situation is... complicated. I just want to know how you feel about this." His eyes, usually so guarded, held a rare openness, an invitation for honesty.

Ino took a deep breath, her decision to speak her mind solidifying with each step. "I... I'm not sure," she confessed, her voice laced with uncertainty. "I mean, the idea of us, it's sudden. But I can't say I'm entirely opposed to it."

Ino's confession, her voice barely above a whisper, betrayed her uncertainty. Yet, beneath the layers of doubt, Horyu detected something else—a flicker of interest, perhaps even the beginnings of affection. It was a complex tapestry of emotions that Ino herself might not fully understand, but it was enough for Horyu to proceed with cautious optimism.

"You should know," Horyu began, his tone laced with a frankness that cut through the ambient noises of the village, "if you decide to go through with this, you will have to share me with other women." His words, unvarnished and blunt, hung between them, a test of the nascent bond that might form. "Hokage-sama made it clear, and I don't want to hide anything from you. I believe relationships built on lies are destined to crumble."

Ino stopped, her steps halting abruptly as she processed his words. Her expression, a mix of surprise and contemplation, reflected the turmoil of emotions Horyu's statement had stirred. She turned to face him, the dying light casting shadows that danced across her features.

"I appreciate your honesty," she said after a moment, her voice steadier than Horyu expected. The semblance of adoration and like in her eyes, combined with her words, told him she was not entirely against the idea of being romantically involved with him. "It's not an ideal situation, but... I'd rather know the truth than be kept in the dark."

Horyu's respect for Ino grew in that moment, her willingness to confront such a difficult revelation head-on a testament to her strength. "Ino," he said, his voice softening just a fraction, "I won't force this on you. This is your choice to make, and I'll respect your decision, whatever it may be."

Ino nodded, a small smile tugging at the corners of her mouth. "Let's just take it one day at a time," she suggested, a pragmatic approach that mirrored Horyu's own philosophy. "See where things go."

This was all Horyu needed. Now that he knew Ino was interested, it was time to gain the optimal benefit from this endeavor. "Ino, I admire your strong character and open mind. I feel like I can be close to you, which is something I've lacked for my whole life." His words, while true, served a dual purpose—to affirm his respect for her and to subtly begin molding her expectations to suit his goals.

Ino's response was a mixture of surprise and warmth. "Horyu, that means a lot to me. I... I feel the same way," she admitted, her voice tinged with a newfound softness that hadn't been there before.

Horyu's thoughts were coldly analytical despite the warmth of the moment. 'Good, she's receptive. Now, to ensure she's not just a partner but an ally.' Aloud, he continued, "I think, together, we could achieve great things. Not just for each other but for Konoha as well."

Ino looked up at him, her blue eyes searching his face for any sign of insincerity. Finding none—Horyu was far too practiced at concealing his true intentions—she nodded. "I'd like that. Working together, supporting each other."

He took her hand, a calculated gesture of intimacy. "And I want you to know, whatever this world throws at us, I'll always have your back." The promise was genuine, but it was also strategic. Ensuring Ino's loyalty was paramount, and what better way to do so than to offer her his unwavering support?

Horyu analyzed the quest once again, noting that, as with most of the system quests, he could synergize some of the paths. His strategy focused on a blend: primarily the Path of Independence, with elements of the Path of Shisui, and a dash of the Path of Naruto for good measure. The Path of Madara, however, held no appeal to him; it seemed to serve only Madara's interests, which didn't align with Horyu's goals. Particularly, Quest 2 on Madara's path caught his eye for its intrigue, but since it was worded explicitly "for Madara," Horyu had already decided it was a non-starter for him.

The first quest on the Path of Shisui was what truly piqued his interest. The reward, "Yamanaka Clan's Favor," was something he found particularly enticing. However, he couldn't recall any specific mission involving the Yamanaka Clan from the anime that would naturally lead to earning their favor. This discrepancy led him to a realization—there was room for improvisation. 'Maybe I can create one myself,' he thought.

This notion wasn't far-fetched for someone of Horyu's capabilities and cunning. Creating a mission that would endear him to the Yamanaka Clan could serve multiple purposes. It would not only advance him on the Path of Shisui but also potentially open up new avenues of alliances and resources within the village. The Yamanaka Clan, known for their expertise in mind-related techniques, could provide Horyu with unique skills and information critical for his journey.

He already planned about how to go with this. In his mind was stored thousands upon thousands of fiction, even more fanfiction from Earth. In some, there were unique techniques about the Yamanaka Clan. He could forge a scroll detailing some such techniques to entice the Yamanaka Clan or even Konoha to create a mission. One such example was from his previous source for the Messenger Seal, Koushin: Konoha's Dragonborn. The protagonist Koushin had developed a Yamanaka Technique that allowed Ino to use dead animals, allowing Ino to, at end game, ride a dead dragon. That was a legendary feat indeed. But it was too strong and could make a rift between Konoha and the Yamanaka if revealed. He decided to choose something simpler.
